Man, I've been a Sprint PCS customer for over 5 years, and I am not on a contract. But this deal will keep me from switching if I can get it through their retentions dept. Any tips on the best way to approach these days? It's been awhile since I've negotiated a retentions deal through Sprint PCS.

Funny, I remember that Sprint PCS commercial where a grade school teacher introduces a new student and shows the brand new paint set she was getting because she was new, and all the current students only had their crappy paints.

Thanks,
-Ed

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster.

So does this mean, that you can use Sprint Vision all the time, at any time of day for as long as you want? Or does "Unlimited Usage" mean that you can use as many of the 500 anytime Minutes towards Vision usage, and it's only "unlimited" for the free nights and weekends?

Hi Ed!

My understanding is that unlimited Vision means that web time is free time - doesn't count against your minutes, so you can surf WAP sites as much as you want. I can't imagine it being all that fun on a phone's keypad however, the Treos seem a lot better suited for it.

What's interesting is that this also includes free unlimited data time, so you can tether the phone to a laptop and get internet access wherever you can get the Vision service. I'm not familiar with this, however - do most phones (like the LG PM-225 that I got with this deal) use a standard USB cable to network with a laptop? How's the access with it? From what I've read it's like twice a 56k connection.

Free web/data/pictures make this deal super hot, IMO, if you're going to use it. This alone costs anywhere from $10-20 a month (and up) from any provider.

I've seen it done a few yrs ago on a Samsung phone I believe the data cable actually took TWO USB ports, something I don't really understand but hey it worked!

It runs about 1.5-2.5x 56k speeds, very decent for browsing pages w/o heavy content.

Don't forget to request for an extra 5-10% monthly discount if you're a member with a particular credit union.

You're not suppose to tether your phone to a laptop. "Casual" useage is ok though...just don't go downloading huge file or anything like that.

The non-EVDO phones hav a connection speed of 144k...at least that's the max the protocol supports. Expect actual download speeds of about 8KBps.

I'm not sure what Samsung phone needed 2 USB ports but either its a USB port or if you have a bluetooth phone Sprint does have the DUN profile enabled in its BT phones.

Now, EVDO is where the real speed is at. Works out to nearly 800kbps. I *think* on the SEVO plan Power Vision (only for EVDO phones) is free as well.

<-- Happy A900 owner.

I had Sprint for 8 years. Coverage was bad in Arlington, VA. I had to go outside and stand by a tree to talk. Even so, I still kept it until they screwed me for $1600.00 in one month. I had accepted one of their phone offers to add free nights and weekends for 5.00 a month. About a year later, I was back in the States and had a lot of people calling me. I told them to call on nights and weekends to save money. My daughter was one of them. I knew that she doesn't know how to hang up a phone, but the free nights and weekends should have taken care of that. At the end of a month and a half, my bill was sixteen hundred dollars. When I complained, they said that I had never signed up for the nights and weekends despite my wife and younger daughter being right there when I did it. I sold my PCS stock and will never do business with Sprint again. I now have Cingular and the service is supreb, costs are about 42.00 per month and I have 2300 rollover minutes saved. Much improved over Sprint!

Is it possible to sign up for another plan if you already have one with Sprint? (same customer, but with two phones and two plans). And then cancel the old plan?

I know I would lose my old phone number, but it might be worth it.

I thought I remembered reading that somewhere, but another post at SD has this going through June '06.

In the absence of anything solid, assume I am ill informed.

Ugh. What a PITA. I am going to get ready to call and threaten to cancel my service to try to get this deal.

Any tips?

I think this time I'm going to actually switch to Verizon or Cingular if Sprint just flat out says no.
I'm tired of being the kid with the old crappy paint set staring at all the new kids' fancy new paint sets.

It's possible you can get an even better deal, check out the chubbywallet forums.

Too bad they don't have some sort of family plan for this deal, our family uses 4 phones, so Cingular is cheaper, but they suck so I think we need to switch to T-mobile.. I also don't want a 2 year contract.

The Wireless7 deal is meh.

pcspromotions deal is no more it seems.

But all still useless for a current Sprint customer.

I wouldn't mind not getting a free Treo 650, if I can get the SERO unlimited Vision and email with the 500 minutes plan. I would be probably keep Sprint forever if I can lock into that plan.

I've had a helluva time negotiating with retentions in the past. I guess I wasn't approaching it right. I might just end up dumping Sprint altogether.

READ!!! Its only for new customers. The best you might be able to do is cancel your existing account and open a new one. Even that is a toss-up as to whether they'll do it.

At any rate, the "standard" retention plan is 750 anytime w/ 8pm N&W for $40. There's also a 1000/$50 plan that's fairly common.

If you only need area-wide I believe its 1000/$40.

EDIT: Seriously, you people expect too much. A free Treo 650 or free MM-A900? Only through a 3rd party where you'll have to jump through hoops to get it on a new account.

Well, first phone call attempt failed to get them to match the SERO plan's features.

For a work around Sprint's New Customer only deal, could I switch to a PrePaid Phone Service and port my existing number over. Then sign up as a "New Customer" with Sprint's SERO plan and then port the same number back to Sprint?

I asked the customer service rep how long after cancelling service with them before signing up for a new plan, and they said they did not know of any time limit. Anyone know if there is a waiting period to rejoin?

No, switch to another carrier's PrePaid Phone service.
Then switch back to Sprint PCS.

Of course, this would depend on if Sprint doesn't have some policy of minimum time before a customer can return.
