Hi,

I'd like to use a legit email address of a Sprint employee for the phone
deal - can anyone here provide me with one via PM?

Yes, you lose all grandfathered features if you transfer to a Power Vision pack. I have an A900 and made the mistake of switching.

You are definitely NOT required to have a Power Vision pack. I'm currently working to get back a Vision pack comparable to what I had before. The main issue is text messaging.

Can I use the Garmin Mobile service with the Sanyo MM-8300 if I sign up for this? Garmin's website says Sprint charges $10 a month to use the MM-8300 as a Gamin Mobile phone. But the Sprint site doesn't mention this. You would think that Sprint would point this out if it's available. The two other phones that Garmin says Sprint supports aren't listed.

This looks like a very nice deal. It's good until well into next year, right? I would sign up for it right now, but I'm away from home for the holidays, and I don't want to have my current cell phone suddenly stop working when my number gets transferred to the new phone (that I won't be around to receive).

Yes, the $10 charge is a recurring monthly charge unless you download it from a 3rd party "unofficially"

Power Vision is free with SERO plans.

Wait, so was it because you had previously had regular Vision, and then bought the A900, thus losing the old Vision?

Or did you already have the A900 with regular Vision, and lost GF'd Vision when upgrading to a different phone?

I am thinking of signing up and getting the A900 so that I get signed up for unlimited POWER Vision instead of regular Vision, if I got a Treo 650 (which I would rather have).

I convinced a Sprint Rep at a Best Buy to sign me up for the SERO deal, he had to call it in to confirm, but he got the go ahead, apparently. Problem is they have no phones really. They are getting A900's transferred from another store tomorrow, so I will call back and hopefully they will be in. They didn't have any PPC-6700's at all, but it seems that no one does.

I've had an unlimited Vision pack since November of '02 with various phones. When I bought the A900 a few weeks ago they said I had to switch to a Power Vision pack (which is false) so I did. In the process I lost my grandfathered Vision features.

Old Vision Pack: Unlimited Vision, Picture Mail and Text Messaging for $10

Power Vision Pack: Unlimited Power Vision and Picture Mail, no Text Messages included for $15

I'm now trying to get that old Vision Pack back OR get unlimited Text Messaging included in the $15 Power Vision Pack.

I've decided if I can somehow get the Samsung A920 I'm without a doubt going to do this. However I'm not nuts about any of the other phones being offered. Right now it's not offered, so I went to the local Sprint Store and they said come back tomorrow to see if the manager will let me do this and get the A920. Sure hope so.

If somebody can PM me a valid Sprint employee email I'd be olbiged.

Let us know how you make out...the A920 is really the only phone that I like as well.

Thanks,

Patrick

While I may have been interested in the A920 Samsung, the Sanyo MM-8300 is the one I opted for after reviewing what the good folks at cnet had to say.

MM-8300 was $60 ? I think? (Probably could have gotten it for less had I futzed about.)
What does the A920 run?

Also, The OP referred to the Vision being included but it looks like there is a charge if you want to use it for anything but e-mail and the calendar - date book/to do list.
Anyone have knowledge in this area?

Thanks,

Here's my experience:

I printed the Plan Details from the Sprint website ( from the the popup window, that is), and brought that to the store just to be safe. When I got to the Sprint store it was packed! You had to put your name on a waiting list, mine was 11th in line. I ended up being there well over 100 minutes total because of this and what follows.

I finally got called and explained to the young lady (a very friendly Sprint customer rep) that I was there in hopes of getting the Samsung A920 phone with the Sprint Employee Referral Offer 500 plan. She had no idea that there was such a thing as any Sprint employee referral plan. I showed her the print out and said that was the plan I wanted, but I couldn't order online or via phone because they were out of the phones online. Being unfamiliar with the employee referral process the girl asked the manager for help. The manager was also very friendly. She too was not familiar with employee referrals, but she was willing to help. The manager had the girl start my contract while she (the manager) called whomever they call for help. She finally got a person at Sprint that was familiar with the plan, it took her several calls and tranfers. That person had the store set me up as a basic 300 minute plan and then told them to give her my number. Once I was setup on that plan I was then transfered to the Employee Referral Offer 500 plan. It was pretty easy in the end. But because none on the store employees knew of referrals, and the first 5 or 6 people at Sprint also did not know, it took quite some time.

The store manager saved all the stuff she did so they would remember for future customers like me. She said she was going to print 100 or so copies of the plan and encourage the employees to get friends to sign up. In the end the manager was actually quite happy I showed up because she and the employees learned a lot helping me out.

As far as what was required of me, note that they never asked for an actual employee name or referral. They saw the print out and took my word that I had been referred. I got the last A920 in the store. This store is not far from where the Patriots play, so the players all shop there (Sprint is an official NFL sponsor). I'm told they bought up a large number of their best phones in the last 2 weeks. The store was out of A940's and A900's, as well as bluetooth headsets and many other accessories. So in the end all I got was the phone and what came with it. They had no accessories for it but memory cards. But seeing the memory cards aren't reduced I didn't bother. I'm hoping somebody else sells them cheaper. They get $69.99 for the 512MB card along with a fullsize SD adapter so you can pop the card in an SD reader. BestBuy gets the same price. Gotta check the Egg later and other places.

I hope this helps. The bottom line for me was I got what I wanted at the store! The employees, by the way, couldn't believe the details of the plan. 500 minutes for $30 a month, plus no activation fee (a $36 savings!) and free Power Vision blew them away. That and the free calls to Sprint AND Nextel phones. Plus if I refer somebody I get $25 and they get $25 too.

So, thanks OP! Thanks so much! I'll write back some other time if I can and report on the phone and service.

I was told if you want to use TV and such there was still a charge. But hey, I'm not complaining, I'm happy. Actually, if Sirius offered all the standard channels I'd be real, real happy. I don't care for just music channels, certainly not for $6.99 a month.

You might want to check out Garmin Mobile with the 8300 phone. I really don't know how well it works, but if you can get a free trial go for it.

Just picked up a Samsung A900 from Best Buy (on "sale" for $189), got a Sprint Rep there to sign me up for the SERO plan. Showed him the print out of the SERO website, and he called it in, and got me set up with that plan. They never once asked me for an email address of an employee or anything (even though I had one).

I'll keep a copy of the plan so, if Sprint tries to take away unlimited Vision or something down the line.

Oh, and here's the funny part.

I was an existing Sprint PCS customer 3 days ago. I ported my number over to a Cingular Pay as you go phone plan. Then ported it back to Sprint on this SERO deal. Absolutely ass-backwards stupid, but it worked.

Keeping fingers crossed that EVDO works well in my home.

Thanks again GTFan for posting the deal.

Sprint Vision: Can I get a net ready phone and attach it to my laptop and have mobile internet? It would be worth it for just that IMO.

BP,
Thanks for the reply.
Mainly, what I'm interested in, is the pictures area of the Sprint Vision.
Any word on that?

I just called 888-312-0050 and asked for the SERO 500 plan and the CSR knew exactly what I talking about. I offered my legit referral, but he said he didn't need it. I'm going to take it for a spin before I port my number since they give you 14 days to try out the phone and the rep said 90 days to try out the plan.

edit: I was offered 5 lines @ the $30 price if I wanted them.
RideFree I read the following off to the rep and he agreed the info was correct, but who knows?:

Yes, but if you do it too much under this plan, you will risk getting caught and getting a letter telling you to stop or be forced to upgrade to the Phone as a Modem plan.

The PPC-6700 is the only exception because it falls under older "tethering" rules. So you can hook it up to a laptop via Bluetooth or USB and surf to your heart's content.

I am doing this using my Samsung A920 connected to my laptop! Oh man, what a deal. It's not as fast as my Cox Cable, but when on the road it'll be great. I called and was told it is free and included. The cable came with the A920 and the software is a free download from Sprint!

Sounds good, but how much did you pay for the phone?
