Update : I have confirmed that Staples will PM the OfficeMax price, no ad needed, no need for OfficeMax to have it in stock, just mention the memo that came out from Corporate HQ to the Staples stores that they are to honor the OfficeMax ad even though they know that OfficeMax is out of stock everywhere and you will get the $199.99 price.

The $30 rebate I found is for OfficeMax.com. Will the Staples store accept this?

oops!

Even if Staples doesn't accept the $30 coupon, the price would be $190. Still a good deal. Correct?

The Staples PM policy says they count coupons before the pricematch, so the $160 PM price is YMMV
(basically you have to find a clueless sales droid to ring it up). I'll just get mine at OM. Good find!

There is no rebate in this deal, you must mean the $30 coupon? At Staples you use one of the Staples $30 off $150 coupon.

I have the HP 5L extra and it doesn't work after 5 years. I was planning to have this laser printer for 10 years.

Nice find, but $65 for the cartridge! Guess not to bad for a laser but still its $65!

I gotta question, do you need a special printer cable for this?

Thanks.

I've setup a few of these recently....couple of things

Toner: User techbargains.com, search for "Hp 1200 toner" 2500pg toner is $53 shipped from newegg.com, 3500pg toner for $60 (to Seattle, WA area)

Special cable: No, it takes USB or Parallel (bi-directional).

Memory: Comes with 8mb, online (from Kingston.com) prices are $36 for 64mb, $26 for 32mb, $18 for 16mb shipped.

Good printer, but if graphics are to be put, I highly recommend USB.....printer is too fast, so it spins down between pages causing a delay as it spins up to print next page. Intant-on fuser works well, never turn unit off.....can't unless you unplug unit. Consumes about 250-300w printing, 5-15w on standy (default of 5min).

My $.02 of wisdom

You have to understand. With HP, you never have to buy a new drum (expensive). Drum and toner are one unit.

Ok thanks appreicate the info. Anyways I went out and bought 2 units from Brown Deer Wisconsin store they have 4 left. I also got the $10 off $20 coupon (1 unit) and the $30 off $150 coupon (2nd unit) apparently the manager didn't care or didn't read that the $30 off $150 was an online purchase only : ) Each unit rang up $349 not $399. I asked if they had a sale on these if they would adjust she said yes : ) She actually wanted to pawn off all 6 on me, but don't know what I would do with the extra 4.

Thanks for the post!

A note of caution on this printer. I've been haunting this forum for awhile, and thought this might save some soul a lot of grief.

I have been buying HP Laser printers for myself and different employers for almost 20 years; they have (until now) been exceptional products. I bought one of these several months ago (new, not a refurb) for the engineering department at our hospital. The printed output looked fine, EXCEPT for the 3/8" clockwise skew to the pages. EVERY PAGE, regardless of paper vendor. After a few calls to tech support with pearls of wisdom such as "Is the paper tray almost empty?", "Is the paper tray too full?", and "Is the paper in straight?", I called my retailer. The online dealer said he would take it back, but I just wanted it fixed. So I sent the printer to HP Service Center, on my own dime (actually, $70), since they only use UPS and UPS does not pick up in American Samoa...

Six weeks later the printer came back. Now it only had a 0.25" skew. After several more calls to tech support, they referred me to the HP website, where (after a bit of hunting) they had the specs listed for what is considered an "acceptable" amount of skew. Would you believe 24 millimeters! Thats almost 0.25" per line!!! Another several calls to tech support yielded a conversation that I still find unbelievable. Listed below is a summary of her responses to my questions:

"Yes, that amount of skew listed in the website is correct, 24 mm."
"Yes, almost one quarter inch is considered within spec."
"Sir, if you wanted perfect output from the printer you should have purchased one of our business class printers; this is considered a personal laser, not a business laser".
"No, we cannot offer an exchange: from our experience it will not solve the problem".

Based upon her last comment, I believe that I was probably not the first person to have this problem. Recollecting this I am STILL amazed at their temerity and assumed stupidity of their customers. Yes, I kept the printer, 'cause it would have cost me more even more $ in shipping to return it to the dealer and purchase from another manufacturer. It works fine for drafts, as long as we do not require the lines to be straight on the page... For final copies of documents, we revert back to our now 6 year old HP Laserjet 4V. But after experiencing this nonsense spouted from HP Customer Service, neither I nor this hospital will EVER purchase another laser printer from HP.

BTW, I tried to find the spec section on their website yesterday to provide a link. The tech section has been changed, and the info is apparantly not listed anymore; go figure. PC World (or was it PC Mag?) "Printer of the year" award notwithstanding a couple months ago, to those who jump on this deal, caveat emptor. I sincerely hope YMWV...

Hmm...very insteresting about the Skew.....I did a test of my own.

I took two Hp1200 printers that are in use at my office and sent them a 10.5"x8" print of solid black.

There was no skew on either printers, and one of the printer is used pretty heavily.

I flipped the page and printed on the other side.....no overlap to be seen (when holding up to a light.

My $.02 of information.....sounds like you have a bad printer or a bad batch of printers....

I pick up one today at a Staples store and used a printable $30 off $150 Staples coupon (the AICPA one). I will go back Sunday with the Officmax ad and get the price adjusted.

Total $349.98 - $30 off $150 coupon = $319.98 - $165 PM (110%) to Officmax = $155

So the other question is... is it possible to use the $30 off $150 coupon at OfficeMax AND take advantage of the Ebates discount?
