Well, I got the burner and the cdrs for $91.xx, although it was a major hassle this time due to the fact that the store manager, with whom I usually deal and who readily takes my on-line coupons, was not there so I had to deal with the assistant manager.
Here's what happened in case you're interested. HM=head manager. AM = assistant manager. SC=sales clerk.
Took the burner slip and cdrs to this SC who's seen me get the on-line discounts from the HM. She called over the AM. He looked at everthing and said "yea, the burner is $49.99 after rebates" and started to walk away without entering the discount at the register. I showed him the printout I had of my cart with $100.28-$25 explaining that it was a $25 off $100 coupon to which he repliced "That's the wrong burner - that's a Cendyne". I explained that it didn't matter what was in the cart, and the SC also explained saying that the HM did it all the time. The AM said that it was probably linked somehow to the specific product in my cart, even though the SC kept explaining that it was a $25 off $100 coupon. Then the AM started looking through the Weekly Specials flyer for the burner, I guess to see if there was a "$25 off" coupon somewhere. After I explained once again that it didn't matter what was in the cart as long as it totaled $100 or more, and after the SC once again said the same thing and that she had seen the HM do it several times, the AM looked at my printout with the $25 deducted from $100, looked at the CD-Burner boxed, then looked up at me and said "but that would make the cd burner twenty-five dollars...". I said, "yea, I know - it's a great deal". Then he pointed to the cdrs and said "These are already 0 after the rebate" to which I replied "I know".
Finally, he said "Well, I'll do it but I don't feel good about it". I told him I didn't want him to do it if he wasn't comfortable and requested that he hold these two items for me so that I could come back tomorrow and speak with the HM, to which he replied "no, no, that's ok - I'll do it...". I suggested several times that I come back, but he insisted on doing the transaction.
Then he didn't seem to know how to enter an over-ride code, messed up several times, applied the tax before the coupon and finally just manually entered the cd burner at $44.99.
The reason I gone to such lengths to detail this story is that I have point to make which is simply the following:
Either honor the damn on-line coupons in-store or not, OM!
I think OM needs to review this policy and decide whether or not they will accept on-line coupons, and, if so, then standardize this practice as far as what you need to bring to the store. I'm pretty sure that their official response would be "no" to this question, although, as I pointed out to the sales clerk, it seems like accounting would have flagged this activity by now and made a big noise about it if it weren't allowed.
I've used the on-line discount coupons at least six times at my OM store, and I plan to keep using it for in-store specials if those items are not on the web site.
What a hassle, but then again I got the 24x burner and 100 32x cdrs for $31.xx which is definitely a great deal!
