Use the coupon to get an additional 40 off.

now here is the thing. Its valid on the 15th and the 16th. Hit up the web site when its midnight in your area. Perhaps, they might raise the price back up to $149, or maybe not. If they do, then I am going to try to get it before the change takes place. 9pm pacific means midnight eastern. I'll give it a shot. What the heck. I also have a 30 off 150 corporate client coupon valid for online orders so I am going to use that as well.

wish me luck.

Chuck

Good question that you asked...when does the website update to reflect the specials? Midnight EST, 3am EST (midnight pacific) or sometime in the morning when they get around to it?

The $129.98 I'm pretty sure includes the $20 off already. But I'll wait and see.

BTW just in case mods stop by, the coupon code he is posting is posted directly on stables website for that item listing with instructions to use it to save $40 with it.

It's when you write a small part of the DVD+R so it thinks it's a DVD-ROM. Most DVD players will read DVD+R's, they're just not programmed to read them. By telling the DVD+R it's really a DVD-ROM, it fools the player into using it.

I just got back from the Warsaw, IN Staples. I went there just going to buy media for my father, but I saw the drives right there and couldn't resist. They had both shrinkwrapped and unwrapped, I didn't remember which was which, so I picked up the Shrinkwrapped.

I think there was one more shrinkwrapped left. They were selling the DVDR's really fast, I bought 2 +R's and the last -R (which are only 2X). The store was pretty busy, and more people than I thought were buying the blank DVDRs.

I just got back from Staples with a shrink wrapped I/O magic 8x burner. It is NOT an Optorite, its a BTC DVDRW 1008IM. The box is identical to the box I got the Optorite DD0401 three weeks ago, same included software package and all. I wanted a backup for the Optorite when using HD burn, oh well back it goes.

If your looking for an Optorite DD0401, good luck!

Also like to mention that the TDK DVD-R 10pack I picked up is a Ritek G04 and rated at 4x in DVDInfoPro, not 2x like the label! Looks like I'm going to get some more DVD-R now.

PMed at Circuit City, who is selling the drive for $179.99. Cost me $85 and change after tax.

Did the $50 & $20 rebate print out at the store or did you download them from the web site?

No rebates printed out...I didn't know there were any, there was no indications at the store that there were rebates with the drive. They just had it labeled as $179.99.

I looked on the website too and I didn't see any rebates, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place though. I see it as $199.99, marked down to $179.99

Nevermind, I'm going blind, the drive on sale at Circuit City is the 4x drive, not the 8x.

dukefan,
did you get an 8x drive from cc? i saw the 4x in their add this week for 149.99 - 70 MIR... and here it is online. so did the csr misread their own ad? if so, double check the rebates to make sure they don't require the 4x drive upc. great deal if you get the MIR's!

in fact, here's the 8x drive. priced 179.99 after 20 dollar instant savings.

Bump...seems like a great deal if you get either drive. I still haven't read anything to make me think that getting a BTC is going to be horrible...$90 and no rebates is HOT.

No I got an 8x. They also sell the 8x I/O Magic drives, they just weren't on sale this week ($179.99). I luckily got the last one.

My shrinkwrapped drive was an Optorite, I pulled it out of the system this morning to check. The box was different too, with the Pinnacle logo on the front, in the bottom right corner. If you look for the thread about this drive when it was $99 at staples, someone posted scans of their [optorite] box and drive, mine are identical to that.

The optorite firmware from their website won't work on the drive, but I did get it from I/OMagic. I just haven't updated it yet. I'm holding out for the 8X -R firmware and have my fingers crossed for bitsetting support

I compared the box I got the optorite in with the new box I got the BTC and they were Identical. I'm thinking that the new stock is all BTC even with the pinnacle software.

what's wrong with your dd0203? I love mine! It's getting tempting to make a needless purchase and buy a second one. why, i dont know

I spoke to soon.... just upgraded my dd0203 to the 2.5 firmware and all seems to be good... can't do HD-BURN, but probably due to not the best (but not the worst) media...

I got one of each, but not sure which one I should keep.... the BTC one has a sticker on the back with barcode and date... MANUFACTURED 2003/12.... the Optorite one doesn't, and drive is from 2004/01

Any advice on which one to keep? Guessing the Optorite since it does HD-BURN and 'should' be able to be upped to 8x -R.... but any advice appreciated...

Anyone know if this new firmware that will up the DVD-R from 4x --> 8x might also increase the speed of the
DVD-RW ?

Thought I'd ask since DVD-RW at 4x would be sweet.

Picked one of these up at the local Staples and ended up with a MagicSpin (mfg by Top-G) DVDRW 1008IM. This appears to be the rebadged BTC, at least according to this thread.

Regardless of wich one it is, I am happy to have a DVD burner. Hell, its my first DVD drive for that matter. And at a good price.

Ugh. Decided it was time to upgrade my + only Philips DVDRW228. Big mistake. Got the BTC drive in my box, installed it and immediately upgraded to the latest firmware, stuck in one of the TDK 4x -R's I bought with the drive, and... COASTER! That's not a good sign. I never burned a single coaster with my DVDRW228. I'm going to go back tomorrow and see if they happen to have any shrinkwrapped drives on the shelf to do a swap with, otherwise it's going back. $90 is hot for a drive that works. But I don't want to spend another $50 in coasters over the life of the drive.

Anyone in NYC get an optorite from Staples? If so, which location?

Sheesh bad luck for you...Just got the BTC rebadge too....upgraded firmware and burned my Matrix DVD-R 4x (50 for under 40 bucks at www.shop4tech.com) at 4x whereas I have only been able to burn at 2x on my DVR-105.....I am happy...

Went back to a different Staples (Union Square, NYC) this morning where they had a shrink wrapped box waiting for me. Hopefully this one will work out better.

++update++
Uhhh... strike two. It's a BTC. I don't want to go around to every staples, opening boxes until I find the right one... but at the same time, the BTC drive is just plain bad. Maybe I should just scrap it and buy a drive from newegg or something.
