I never burned a single coaster with my DVDRW228. I'm going to go back tomorrow and see if they happen to have any shrinkwrapped drives on the shelf to do a swap with, otherwise it's going back. $90 is hot for a drive that works. But I don't want to spend another $50 in coasters over the life of the drive.

Anyone in NYC get an optorite from Staples? If so, which location?
If you return it you might want to look at the NEC ND-2500 Dual 8x+ & 8x- DVD±RW drive (OEM version) sellling for $103 or wait a while since the price has been falling on this drive about $3 or $4 a week and should be selling for $90 in a few weeks.

NEC ND-2500 "8x" (Writes both 8x +/-) DVD±R/RW Drive OEM "$103" Shipped; OptoRite 8x "$108" RETL; Pioneer DVR-107 $149

Sorry to hear that, I've had nothing but luck with this drive it's my first BTC drive, at first I was worried about it because I've used Optorite before and they worked great, but I have to say I have yet to burn a coaster. I'm new to this so you could be doing more with yours but out of the box and upgraded it works great.

BTC has a new firmware for the DRW1008IM on their website. No changelog yet, however you can download it here:

Firmware 056

I haven't tried it myself either. Hopefully it adds support for more media.

I got a BTC and have to say it works fine, I've been using it with TDK media and have no coasters thus far after about 7 or 8 burns, and all work in my stand alone dvd player (Pioneer DV515)
