I'm a Lite-on fan, but I gotta say the Khypermedia (CyberDrive DX082D) i picked up today writes better than my Liteon 811s. It writes the ricoh 4x disks at 8x with much better PI/PO scans than my liteon. It also wrote 4x rated CMC at 8x with nice error scans, comparable to the ricoh 4x written at 8x. Very impressed so far. I might have to retire the 811s.

I'm kinda confused. The ad says it's DVD+ not dual format.
The manager of OM might not PM with other OM store because of it.
Also, do you think dual layer format drive would be available sooner or later? If so, wouldn't it be a reason that price of dual format drive is fallen so lapidly?
Thanks.

the guy at officemax just said that om doesn't get a lot of their sales stuff in until monday. i got the last PD drive in the place, and it's obviously a return.

2 of the 3 item numbers in the ad (Pacific Digital U-30201 #20678401 & I/O Magic #20726840) are for the daul DVD±RW drives or have they call a store in other city.

BTY: I heard that you can order these drives by phone (1-877-633-4236), but you wouldn't know what rebadged drive you are getting until the drive is delivered.

Went to OM today and all they had out was the Khypermedia 8X drive out. I asked one of the sales associates if he had any PD drives. He went into the lock up and brought out the only PD drive in the place. I bought it, the serial # started with 479 and was a lite-on 851 !!! Woo hoo.

Can the PD/Lite-On drives be flashed with the Lite-On firmware???? I really wanted an 8X Lite-on with a black bezel to match my Antec Sonata case that I got at the Staples in-store clearance for $78
Thanks

I just got back from the OM in Tempe, AZ at the intersection of Rural and Broadway. They didn't have any left on the shelves, and when I asked a salesperson if he could look in the back for me, he said that they got rushed this morning for those drives and he knows that they're out of them. So yeah, don't bother trying there if you're in the Tempe/Scottsdale/Phoenix area

Wow... this flash technology is getting awesome. Now not only can it change the internal configuration of the drive hardware itself but can also change the bezel color!! Is this a Lite-On exclusive?

Lucky guy, I can't find any but BTC's. I guess Lite-on doesn't want me for an owner

We got plenty of PD drives from the truck that came in today (Denton, TX). Anybody know how to tell from the box what's a lite-on and what's not?

copied from FW:

Pacific Digital U-30201 - SKU #20670401
Serial number starts with: 4813 = Lite-On 851 Black
Serial number starts with: 4823 = Lite-On 811 White
Serial number starts with: 43** = Lite-On 811
Serial number starts with: P ** = BTC DRW1008IM
Serial number starts with: 41D6H7432XX = NEC (ND-2500A?)
(Thanks to CD Freaks for this list)

The basic rule is that lite-ons have a 12 digit, all numbers serial number. The BTC has a serial number that starts with P.

The Pacific Digital drive ARE LITEOn Drives. Meaning once you open the Pacific Digital paper box it'll say LITEON on the drive itself. So you will have no problem flashing lite-on firmware on this driver cause it's a straight up liteon drive.

I got the KHypermedia Maylasia (BenQ). First burn was excelent! I think I'll pop the $10 for the BenQ firmware update to +/-. My opinion, for $70, not a bad deal. To think I was gonna pop for a Plextor. Glad I read these forums and the ones at Fatwallet. Now I have extra $$ for media.

Nice, got a Lite-On 851S today. Now, if only I could find the time to install the sucker...

Any suggestions on media for this drive? I'm looking for smaller quantities right now as I need to insure that they will work properly with my DVD players.

Picked up a PD also....

LiteOn LDW-811S (Beige)

S/N starts with 4323

I was planning to get the black one from NewEgg this weekend but heard about the sale.

$129 on Newegg at the moment.

I spent $127.49 and I get a $50.00 rebate. Alas, it is beige in my Black Antec case.

But I figure I can suffer with a beige spot (Especially since there is a door to cover the bays...) for saving $50!

If the @#@#$@# rebate works that is.....

Any more information on the NEC 2500A? I was at the local OM today and got one that has serial that starts with a 41xxxxxxxxxxxxx like the example above. I haven't had time to open it yet and want to make sure it's an NEC before I do.
