My local OfficeMax has all three brands. Which should I buy? I/O Magic, PD, or Khypermedia. Does it really matter much?

Hey "NanoMem" what's with the double and trible posts. Posting the same thing 25 minutes apart is a no no.

The PD is a LiteOn. Excellent drive. The Khyphermedias bite from what I read in here.

Can anyone tell me where the rom flash files can be had??

Now, why would I do that? Especially after I'd gotten the answer...But come to think of it, I wonder if this has anything to do with my cycling back of IE screens. If it's the case then my apologies for the annoyance

Hey everybody, I got the PD drive and it runs great.

Quick question: should I install the DVD burner as master or as slave???? will it be any differences? the other drive is just a CD rom. so any input will be great.

thanks

From the reviews at CDRInfo, the rebadged Cyberdrive kicked Lite-On's butt. The Lite-On is only better if you need to burn DVD-R, or if you need to bit-set your DVDs to make them compatible with older players. However, the BenQ (which is also rebadged as a KHypermedia drive) offers DVD-R burning and bit-setting, and uses the same burning engine as the Cyberdrive.

I have both the Benq and the Cyberdrive. The Cyberdrive generally writes my DVDs at 8x (ricoh 4x +R) with slightly fewer errors than the Benq, but they're pretty close. Both drives write way fewer errors than my Lite-on 811s, by the way. I'll probably return the Benq because I don't care about bitsetting and the slightly fewer errors with the cyberdrive.
Also, for anyone who doesn't know, for the Benq to write -R you need to give Benq an additional $10 for a firmware upgrade.

The Master is alittle bit faster for transfering data. So since you just have a CD-rom for your other drive I recomend you set you DVD burnner as master and your CD-rom as slave.

It's scary, my 8x Khypermedia Cyberdrive has given me no problems, where my 2.4x Sony was nothing but trouble.

I just picked up a Khypermedia,

Serial No. Starts with XE010C0XXXXX Khypermedia.

Anyone know who makes that??? I tried looking for more info... Didn't find anything yet. I am not going to install this for a couple of reasons 1'st I want to make sure that this thing is one of the better drives....

Two... I bought this and they couldn't find any Khypermedia rebate forms so they marked off an IO Magic Drive and told me to use that one. I am not feeling good about sending a rebate form in with the wrong item checked off on it. The more I think about it I may just return it.... 50.00 is a chuck of change... Rebate forms are flaky enough as it is ... BUT sending in one that isn't even correct ...SIGH....

I was just @ office max and didn't see anything for 40 bucks...

The I/O Magic rebate requires the UPC code from a I/O Magic box, take it back to the store and tell them that the I/O Magic isn't going to work and to either get $50 MIR off the price or give your mobey back.

BTY: A link to the $50 Khypermedia rebate is posted at the beginning of this thread. Also you can order a Pacific Digital drive by phone order.

Your's is a CYBERDRIVE. According to reviews, those are good drives. That is what I got as well. I haven't had a chance to install and use mine yet.

TO ERICLP: The $50 rebate is supposed to be good for the KHYPERMEDIA. You can even do the online thing on OM's web site to get it back quicker..

Using the Memorex + media that was on sale at OM; 25 for $29

just finished dealing with a drive install(Benq 800A) where there was already a drive installed..solved the BSOD(would copy to image then ask for blank then BSOD freezeup) by setting the 800A as Master(set the jumper as well) and the existing 52x24x52 CDRW(set it as Slave)..removed the 2 drives thru Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>DevManager..and /removedelete the Via ide controllers as well. Rebooted letting WinMe redetect on default WinMe drivers and set drives letters and then installed Via's 4.43v set..rebooted ..redetection by WinMe...800A now burns @ 8x w/ Nero6 on RicohJPN01 just fine.

I don't know when the price dropped but when I got to the site today the ad said the price was $120 and the rebate said $80 off the price! I don't live in the delivery area of Officemax so it is going to cost me a few extra for delivery. This deal is as hot as a Habanero pepper!!!

Is this what it said

Limited Time: Save $80 with $40 Instant Rebate and $40 Mfr's Mail-In Rebate. Mail-In Rebate Valid 2/29 - 3/27 Only!

Price right now shows as $110.98 (confirmation will show another $1 off the price) and then you'll get a $40 rebate. There is no $80 rebate for this so the deal is the same as originally posted.

I purchased the Pacific Digital / Lite-On 811s last weekend at OM. It already had the latest firmware loaded HS0P.

WARNING:
I initially had problems with this drive (coaster factory) but it turned out to be a software issue that I caused. I installed the Sonic software that came with it (crap) and then installed the latest 5.5 version of Nero - Big Mistake. You shouldn't have two different burning software programs installed at the same time. I uninstalled Sonic but still had mucho problems. I searched the forums and found a thread that mentioned similar problems that were solved by running the Nero RegistryChecker utility. I downloaded RegistryChecker.exe from Ahead Software/Nero's web site and ran it. It found and corrected a problem in the registery and after rebooting everything was fine. Not one coaster and I've been burning Ricoh DVD+R 4X at 8X, Ritek DVD-R 4X at 4X, Princo DVD-RW 1X at 2.4X and assorted other media at their rated speeds or higher.

Happy Camper!!!

++++++Thai Pepper Hot in Twin Falls, Idaho OM++++++

I went down this morning to pick one of the PDs up before the deal changed tonight. Had to have rep get one out of the back. When it rang up it showed $80.00 Instant Rebate and still spit the tape for the $50 MIR!!! I had a $10 coupon so netted 19.99 plus tax!!

I went and got my son in law and we went back and scored one more each at the same price!!! All three are 4813s so I guess there liteons?? Anyone in the southern Idaho area might head for OM in Twin Falls before closing and compter changes over!!

+++Edit- Both of mine are 851S liteons with beige plate. Not sure on son in laws+++
