I did a search and didn;t fine anything on this DVD writer, in fact it's not listed on the Ikebanadrive.com web site or in their on-line store.

It could be a NEC mfg drive, NEC have been selling a Dual 4X DVD±RW Drive under their own name for several months.

I think it's Sony too. There are many "striking similarities" of their products with Sony. For example ... they supply the same BHA software which comes with Sony's CD-RWs. Seems to be some Sony vendor gone public.

Definately not the sony. The Sony is 4x DVD-R and 4x DVD+R. Also the Sony has 8mb buffer.

there was a misunderstanding and some manual mistakes and dell selling dvd+r drive as -+r, but

nec isn't selling any +- drives yet. They aren't even out (Nec ND-1300)

i think there are def +/- drives. like the NEC and the SONY.
however, can someone verify which rebadged drive this is? the $200 Dell's are +W , not +/-W.

I would check out www.dvdrhelp.com They have a pretty good database of players and burners with compatibility listings.

I am going to have to agree with Cyborg3D that this is probably NOT a NEC +/- RW unit. The original release information on the NED ND-1100 had it listed as +/- support, even the FCC documentation has it listed as such. The current NEC site information has the ND-1100 listed at +W only. The ND-1300 I believe is due out anytime, and I would be surprised if there were already rebates available.

I had also read or heard, that Sony, Ikebana, and Plextor were all transiitioning to the NEC design. I have not verified this though. If anybody can get the FCC id for the Ikebana drive we could look it up.

Anyone know if this offers any burn protection? (burnproof, justlink etc.) I hear that MSI is going to be releasing a multi-read drive later in Q2 2003 with burnproof protection. Which I thought was sanyo's copyrights, licensed to other manufactures. ie Plextor. Which will be a hot product. IMO
