I also happened to get lucky not only did I get the $300 in rebates from best buy but there was another $100 cash back or $300 in Marriot Inn's gift cert mail in coupon in the box. Of course I chose the cash back, and I got $60 in reward gift certs to best buy as well. Did I mention this thing has an insane battery life approaching 5 hours? DVD's on the widescreen are phenomenal!

Cool, I don't think you can get another $100 cash back from the rebate inside the box though. BB already prints out this rebate on the receipt for you - its the Fall / Winter 2003 Offer. Of course, there is a cool $50 rebate inside the box for a USB floppy to make it FAR, which was unexpected and nice. Also, BB is giving away a Lexmark X1050 printer this week FAR, but mine didn't have any in stock

I couldn't find any official benchmarks for the Intel 852 integrated graphics in the emachines and Toshiba. Here's Intel's official site: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel852gm/

Just for kicks, I looked it up on the online result browser at 3dmark. Kinda painful to look at - 1900 at the high end and 1300 at the low end, and this is 3DMark 2001! That's in the range of the Nvidia TNT from 5 years ago!

You scared me there, I thought you were talking about the radeon 9200. Anyone know how it performs?

Did you ask or did they offer a substitution, check other local BB's or a rain check?

Damn this X1050 is SMOKIN' HOT I just wish the Portland BB's had it in stock.

The RAM you linked to isn't compatible with this laptop; the link is to 144 pin PC133 128MB RAM. I just want to make sure no one clicks to the link and buys it without looking at it first...

You're right, that one was for $37 from the same RAM company with the same descriptive images so I accidently used that link for the post. Its fixed now, my bad!

Didn't want to press my luck, since they seemed a bit peeved that I didn't opt for the extended warranty. Dunno if its worth heading back there tommorow to ask them again, but I just checked the rebate online and it says you need both item on one reciept. As I have already sent in the rebates, I don't want to return/rebuy and then lose $350 worth of rebates.

There is also a $50 rebate from HP if you buy an HP printer (you don't need to buy at the same time as the laptop). My x1050 had a rebate coupon in the box, otherwise you can get it here.

For those of us that bought the x1050 a couple weeks ago, are any of you trying for a price match? I bought it when it was $1250-$100MIR-$100MIR-$100Gift Card. It would be nice to get the price adjusted to $1150... (but it is a great laptop even if I can't get the extra $100).

FWIW my three compaq/hp rebates from purchases made in August still haven't shown up...I did mail them out late september though . But their online system shows that they've had my rebate for well over 3 months...

I called them up and they said that it was approved....just that it's going to take them up to another 4 weeks to get me my rebate. Ugh.
So if you're counting on the rebate anytime soon...don't.

And be nice and just sign up for the free 3mnth AOL or 6mnths MSN so we don't get yelled at by out managers.
I got royally screwed by MSN for 6 months of service when their CSR supposedly cancelled an account but lied about the whole thing (or there was a major glitch). Sorry, but I'll say nicely, "no thanks."

something like this: http://shopping.kingston.com/nvidia

I bought one 256M DDR2100 for my laptop two weeks ago for $40, the price is $38 this week. It' s kingston value ram.

Good choice, did you buy the Kingmax 512MB for $103?

Nope, got the cheapest PC-2100 256 module instead for $38 although on second thought I just noticed that the Kingmax 512 MB PC-2700 is only $89 now, d'oh!

Where'd you find the Kingston for that price? Newegg is $43 and Kingston's own site is $45.

Someone is stuck in 1998.

When you get unthawed from that block of ice youve been trapped in then you'll realize that the world has changed in those 5 years youve been frozen. You'll be amazed to see that todays celerons are good enough for most everything, $800 for an incredible laptop is a great deal and gas prices are rediculous. Unfortunately though, ignorant people are still looked down at as shmucks. Welcome to 2004.

Hahaha, clue-less thread crapper. Classic...
Where is this Celeron your referring too?

This is a HOT deal for anyone lucky enough to get one.

High power, low heat, 4+hrs battery, wide screen, firewire, USB2.0, SD slot, S-Video out, bluetooth(option), and completely expandable...you can upgrade yourself (pop-out/pop-in): cpu, ram, video, wifi, all drives, etc. At this price I would have expected non-removable parts, not so here. All for $800 sweet!

Check out the pics in the upgrades section --> x1000 forums

I beg to differ at least where Compaq Presario laptops are concerned.

Back in September 2002 (15 months ago) I bought a Compaq Presario 1500T for under $800 from Staples B&M, one of the best purchases I have ever made. Compaq sucks at most products they make (except for iPaq PDA and laptops) but their laptops are great. I have had absolutely ZERO problems with my Compaq 1500T and if you take a minute to read actual reviews you'll notice that most Compaq X1xxx owners are very very pleased with their purchase. The Compaq 1050 for $799 after MIR is a solid value for a great all around laptop.

I am actually also very tempted by the emachine for $599 with the widescreen for my dad.
Seems like a nice lappy for someone who only does the most basic office/internet stuff ...

I think you guys are misinterpretting his comment. There are 3 deals posted in the OP, 2 celerons and 1 compaq. He's discounting them all since 2 are celerons (which unless something changed in the last month, do indeed "suck" compared to a p4) and the other is a compaq. He's not claiming one is a compaq celeron.
