EDIT: The Inspiron 9200 is Dead
EDIT: Long live the Inspiron 9300!!!!!!

Inspiron 9200 has some advantages over the 9300 that replaced it.

If you want a 9200 you have one last chance to snag one. Dell SB has 400 units on sale with prices starting at $999

http://www1.us.dell.com/content/product...wk7od_inspn_9200?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd

Price is decent (after rebate) for the minimum config. Adding any additional support or even an 80gb hard drive kills the deal.

You're right about support upgrades. $268 to upgrade from 1 year mail-in to 2 year on-site warranty. That's usually $100. $418 - $130 rebate for the 3 year upgrade.

Man they're gouging on those upgrades. Anyone see that they're charging $990 extra for a 2001FP? Doesn't that go for $749 regular price (no discounts whatsoever) on their website?

And the 80gb hard drive is like $124 (normaly +50)

BUT

If you get it stripped it's a decent deal. 17" centrino laptop with DVI out, 512mb and an OK dedicated graphics card for 1 grand shipped? This is SO much better than those laptops that keep on going on sale for $700 at CUSA.

CPU/hard drive memory are all easy to upgrade in the future. So buy basic now and expand later if you need it.

ATI 9700 mobile 128mb should be faster than the X300 in the 9300. So if you are going for the lowend this is arguably a better bargain than the 9300 deal last week.

I so want an XPS-2 but getting this and beating on it for a year is a viable option. At that time the XPS-3 will be on it's way and I and the XPS-2 will cost $1000 less...

actually THIS is a good deal, I can almost guarrantee you that you can't find a 17in WS with 9700 pro... hell this card beats alot of them out there including the x300 and the x600 which is based on the 9600 core. Upgrades can always be made later I think this is a pretty hot deal if you ask me. 1080~ AR for me shipped to california... try going to bestbuy and check out those HP's that goes roughly around 1800+ for a 1.6ghz 17in WS and a 5700FX go...

What idleuse/kensai said. Pound for pound it's more power than the low end 9300. Just don't go for the upgrades (just maybe the $108 for the 1.8ghz) for a $1000 you have a widescreen entertainment system and a laptop that can play every 3D game out today.

Can this support the high resolution of the 2405FPW monitor? I was thinking of building a new PC, but this seems nice to have being it's much smaller and portable.

Are you trying to do dual screen or single?

If single I would say definitely probably. The 9200 was available at one time with a 1900x1200 WUXGA screen.

I was more interested in the i8600 for $899 but was holding out for maybe a better deal. Now I regret that I didnt pull the trigger since it is now discontinued. This is $100 more but I was not looking for a 17' monitor but am looking for a 128mb graphics. Anybody know if dell will have another notebook with 128mb graphics below $1000 in the near future? thanks

the 9200 is an incredible machine, I have one. With Fangui, the 9700 runs at about 46celcius, the GPU at 38...you can turn the fans off and go COMPLETELY silent and COMPLETELY cool with web browsing and so forth....with DVD watching the fan might cut on low every so often.

This deal would be perfect for my g/f...any chance I can still purchase it at then end of the day today? It says expires 3/13...does that mean at the end of the day, or right now?

thanks

Usually Dell deals expire at 11:00 PM CST but it could end sooner.

Better to just get an inspiron 9300 using this $750 off coupon code: ?W$W$3K$D5R90Q. You get a newer chipset and the option of the 6800 go with it along with future upgradeability. The 9200 isn't worth it.

That's 750 is only good for $1999. so $1250 vs $999. I concur you get more for your money with the current 9300 deal, but if you don't need the 6800 go, your getting a cooler, quieter laptop for $250 less.

$1000 for a 17" laptop with DVI out and a decent 3D chip is not worth it?

oh bother....

Wrong: $750 off Inspiron notebooks $1699+, limit 3000 uses.

There's also these:
$500 off Inspiron notebooks $1399-$1698, limit 3000 uses: 9$86KPK1P?BJVZ
$600 off Inspiron notebooks $1699-$1998, limit 3000 uses : V929$6QK7GHP3J

Wrong.

He does not have it because there is no $750 off $1699:

Here's what I get when I put in the $750 coupon on a laptop costing $1713:

"Dell Home Customers:Save $750 on select Inspiron? notebook purchases $1999 or more (before tax and shipping)! (affiliate only online offer) "

If you want that 750 coupon it is available under "general" on www.notebookforums.com

Plus posting coupons is against the forum rules, lock this thread and ban him I say!!!

Just kidding of course if you really have some super secret inside information $750 off $1700 coupon please post it here. I would love to get a full blown inspiron 9300 for just $950

With the $600 coupon though the 9300 comes at $1113 when configured with 128mb X300 and 512mb of ram. So it's really a toss up. I believe the Radeon 9700 is faster, and the sonoma sucks more juice so in theory the 9200 is a better low end solution.

OTOH if home does not charge you sales tax the prices end up being about the same. So flip a coin either deal is a winner.

even if you did upgrade the 6800go you would need to upgrade your cpu to the fastest processor to take advantage of it... with my axp 2.2ghz ddr 460mhz I thought I was able to max out my radeon 9700.. but I was wrong... I put my 9700 pro out of curosity in my a64rig and it ran atleast 10% faster... the bottleneck is int he cpu... all that power gone to waste unless you upgrade to the 2.0ghz which cost a few hundred more making it toally unhot for the 9300 insprion.

For the record, a 9700 is MUCH faster than a x300 or a x600 graphics card. You would be able to run Doom 3 and half life 2 without any problems on a 9700. the 6800 is faster than the 9700, but it also drains the batteries almost twice as fast.

I'm looking for a notebook for the g/f that will last a while, and can play games when it needs to. How much benefit does the 533mhz fsb give over the 400? Is it worth the sacrifice in video card quality?
