Sounds like a full fledged sequel to Dead Island and not just DLC. Despite all of the shortcomings of the original, I did like it. I bought it at midnight release on Steam but never did finish it. Just became a little too repetitive and the melee combat needed some work.

If they can improve on areas where Dead Island suffered, I could see it being a pretty slick game. We'll see, I guess.

DayZ has set the bar pretty high for zombie games, even with all of the bugs.

I got bored of it after about 5 hours of play. I might give this a shot if it gets better reviews than Dead Island did.

Hopefully they will add more gunplay. I bought it on sale but never played when I heard that there is little gunplay, even if you choose the gun specialist character.

Dead island suffered from a lot of game breaking bugs and a terrible storyline that tried to take itself seriously. For a game that is based all around finding "good weapons", losing your good sword to a bug is very painful and extremely demotivating.

Not to mention the story was SO stupid it actually detracted severely from the gameplay for me. The zombies were also extremely easy to kill. (knock down, stomp on head. Repeat). Also the crafting system was stupidly broken, money was pretty much worthless, and all the quests were pretty much dumb repeats of one another.

I just bought it a week or so ago, adn I didn't get that sort of impression. Maybe they've patched it up.

Am I insane? I just started it about a month ago. It was flawed, but I thought it was fun. I played through all the way and can't wait for more! It just needs some tweaks and it could be a major contender.

given how long ago it was released and it still has new players saying "needs work", just how bad do you think it was for the inital players at release? Basically a game that I gave up on soon starting to play it (want my money back )

Riptide comes out on Tuesday. I played the first Dead Island and thought it was decent so I'll eventually pick this up when it's cheap. The PC version is retailing for $40 which is never a good sign but I don't think it'll be junk like the recent walking dead game.

Dead Island was a weird title for me I got it when it first came out due to some deal where I was able to get it for half off. At first and for awhile I really really enjoyed it. Then I got to the forest/jungle area and just wanted to finish the game and pretty much started rushing through it. Now (starting about like 6 months ago) I've been having the urge to play it again. I will get Riptide when I can get it for like half off probably to satisfy that itch. Dead Island could have been amazing.

The exact same thing happened to me when I got to that area. It's like all progression stopped at that point and from then on you've already experienced everything that the game had in store for you. I basically kept playing afterwards to finish it.

One of the biggest faults from the first game were the main characters. I don't think anyone liked them and instead of starting off with a new batch of characters for the sequel they brought the original cast back. Rather than continuing their story I rather they just kept it in the same universe and improved upon what worked in the first game. Still, I think it'll be a decent game and worth picking up on sale.

Game comes out at midnight tonight. I think I'm going to pre-order it today.

The first one wasn't perfect but I did enjoy it for what it was. Enough to make a $39.99 gamble.

If you're playing co-op, Dead Island is the best and most fun zombie game out there. My friends and I modded the game to our liking. We made all zombies super tough with their head being the weak point, so you had to headshot or a few repeated melee hits to the head to kill them. This made roams in the city way more tense as you could easily become overwhelmed by a handful of zombies. Have no intention of buying Riptide though, not until it goes on a super sale.

You can get it on Greenmangaming for $32 if you use this coupon GMG20-GGN5D-FC3NA

The game has to activate on Steam anyways.

Thanks for the code. I've been looking for a deal on Resident Evil: Revelations and used the code to preorder it for $40. I'll probably pick up Riptide but not until it's cheap, maybe on the steam halloween sale.

From what I've read about Riptide it seems that it's an odd game in that it's a direct continuation rather than a sequel. Riptide plays exactly like Dead Island and the developer hasn't made any changes to the gameplay, graphics, ai, etc. It's more an expansion pack with the length of a full game than it is a sequel. I enjoyed the first Dead Island until the jungle area where everything felt stale and I rushed through just to beat it. Hopefully Riptide can hold my interest longer than the original.

Yeah the original lost momentum once it hit the jungle area. It wasn't a bad game but there's no way I would pay full price for the same thing all over again. This game will e 50% off in a few months, I'll think about it then.

It runs pretty awful. High is unplayable with my 3570K/670. Medium only turns the shadows down slightly and is still relatively choppy.

Gameplay is exactly as I remember from the first game.

If I can work out the framerate kinks, I'll give it some more play time.

It is definitely going to get bad reviews from anyone expecting a great game.

Edit: Installed the Nvidia beta drivers released 4/23 and the frame rate issues have disappeared for the most part.

Bioshock, Dishonored, Hitman Absolution, BlackOps2, Crysis 3 ALL run smooth on my 6970
DI:Riptide is indeed, unbearable under high setting. I am not playing until they patch this up somehow....by then the game should be 9.99

Updating my drivers & turning off v-sync is all I did and it runs 99% smooth now on high settings. I played for a few hours yesterday.

I did both at the same time and haven't tested it, so I don't know if one or both resolved it.

Made by the same guy who did the first DI utility.

Paid $24 on GMG as a pre-order special months ago, played about 90 minutes last night, seems like more Dead Island. I really liked the combat mechanic in the game once you turned on the analog combat option and use a gamepad with it. It's kind of weird that it's not turned on by default, but anyway.

Nothing too exciting yet, this is clearly more Dead Island 1.5 than anything, but I don't really mind for what I paid. I'm also having a bunch of problems jumping into coop games that I didn't have with the original, but I haven't checked to see if there are any known issues at this point.

I'll get it when it's under $10. I ended up liking the first one and it's one of the few games I've actually finished in recent years. It did get extremely repetitive, so I just ended up playing in shorter spurts, but overall it was fun.

I started playing it, it's pretty fun. It's nothing amazing but I don't think anyone expected it to be. The gameplay feels smoother than the first, though the basic story-questline is essentially the same. The graphics seem a bit better, though of course not great. thanks for linking that tweaker though, might help.

Overall I think it's fun. There are some neat weapon mods like the BBQ blade which is a sword heated by a welding torch.
