is this ram (KVR266X64C25/256-R) registered ram? i'm guessing it is by the R at the end. i have a similar stick in my system. exact same model # except there's no R at the end. my system is doing ok with that stick but it doesn't seem to want to boot with this one i just got from office depot. i'm not sure if the ram is bad or if it really is registered ram, and if that's the case, i'm not sure why my mobo won't take it.

can anyone help?

I think the ECC/registered RAM has X72 instead of X64 in the part number. Correct me if I am wrong.

Hmm having a fun time getting the damned site to let me input a different zip code so I can check availability near my workplace, since I work quite far from home.

yeah i checked on kingston's site and they don't even show that KVR266X64C25/256-R exists. only KVR266X64C25/256 w/o the R at the end. i guess this stick is a bad stick or something. the box was pretty beat up but the plastic casing inside seemed fine. i don't think they have any in stock in my area so i'm not sure what i should do with this bad stick. i really need some ram.

They all have a R's at the end. The last three boxes I purchased from Office Depot all had a R at the end, I wouldn't worry about.

Sweet! I was expecting some crappy chip, but I got the Nanya's as well. Although I've never used them, I hear they are decent. They appear to be 7NS as well (marking NT5DS32M8AT-7K).

According to this link they should be able to do CAS 2 at 2100, although it also say they are registered. Does anybody know if this is the case, or is that something special separate of the memory chips themselves (like an SPD chip) or something on the PCB?

I'm hoping to go dually XP soon so maybe I could use these chips.

Socal is still out and probably will be out past Saturday. I hit up every store between Long Beach, Whittier & Anaheim with no luck (at least I got 1 chip though).

was able to go to a local b&m to get their last stick for 45.99. and they printed out the $25 rebate at the register. i even attempted to apply a coupon, but the lady at the register said that the coupon was expired. oh well, still a good deal. i was at a local pc parts store and they had it for $89.99. good luck to everyone seeing that this ends on saturday. keep calling your local b&m's...

woot, i purchased two on line using a 20/70 coupon for a total of $78. i went into the office depot explaining that the rebate is only one per household, they then accepted the return and sold it to me for cash it looks like i will be able to send in both rebates on the 512mb ddr for a total price of $28 :Q

The chips on my modules have some numbers like 32xsth -7 only. They don't have the manufacturer printed on them. I wonder who made them. Any idea?

Orange, CA Office Depot was still out when I stopped by today, but the manager offered me PNY at the ad after rebate price of $29.99. I declined, PNY isn't as good as kingston IMHO, and real rebate is $5 less. OTOH I might change my mind later. Mostly I don't want to foul up my $10 coupon etc.

Just thinking rebate must be mailed within 14 days of purchase, which for me is 11/11/02, ie 11/25/02, so maybe I can wait til next week to actually take delivery.

Might want to go back and take a look at the chips on that PNY memory. As many have found, including myself, if you get the right Samsung chips, you are really getting pc2700 instead!

Check this thread for info. While the thread is about CC, I got mine at OD.

ymmv. Good hunting!

A w00t for the first time I've actually been able to cash in on one of these deals. I was looking for a cheap 256MB module to dump into a system to bring it up to 512MB of RAM and I was about to dump $85 at Crucial to get some. First OD store I hit was out, but the second still had 3 in stock. Even if I never see the rebate, $46 isn't too shabby for RAM these days.
