Funny, my order I placed online no longer shows up on their website. I guess its just more false advertising. I never have liked Officemax anyways, rarely do I ever see anyone in their store parking lot. I don't know how they stay in business.

Bah, I went in locally to try to get them to try and get one and have them price adjust it so it would be $49.99 AR because of the rebate fiasco, but some bandits had already raided them this morning and they're all sold out, that was quick.

Call your local store and ask them went they are getting more Mad Dog burners in stock and also ask if they are offering a substitute burner for the out of stock Mad Dog drive.
You might also want to see if OM will accept that Visa/Officemax $10 off $75 printable in-store only coupon.

The rebate form I got at the OM in Torrance, Calif reads like this (copied exactly at it appears on the form printed by the cash register):

"Rebate applies to a Mad Dog Dominator

Purchase must be made between Starting
7/17/04.

Also, when I tried to register online at www.officemax.com/rebates, I could not find this rebate.

I was able to use the $10 off $75, thanks mystic man! It was the last one. Strangely enough the sign under it said "Special buy $74.99-25 mail in rebate = 49 but when i brought it up it scanned in at $89.

The $40 rebate says the same thing for me, purchases starting 7/17/04. But the link that is in Mysticman's post for the rebate now says its for $40 and it also says the correct dates (starting 7/11/04). However in the terms and conditions it says 7/17/04....

How do you know if its a NEC-2500A without opening the box? Can you tell from the serial number?

I haven't heard of anyone gettiing anything but a NEC ND-2500A burner in the 8x Mad Dog drive box, beside that you can still return a burner to Officemax even after you have install the drive and used it.

Also the $40 rebate form has been fixed.

Update: Officemax is running 2 different ad in different part of the country, which they do the during the summer months, so if Mad Dog 8x/8x DVD±R/RW Drive was not no sale in your area this week it should be on sale next weeks. The ads for next week are up, so you can check the ad in your area for next week's sales.
The drive is still OOS online and people who place phone order are being told that the drive is on backorder, but the rebate is good until July 24, so as long as the drive is shipped before the rebate expires you can still get one by phone order.

Update #2: Someone on another forum say they put in a phone order today (7-16) for the drive and the sound card and both were no longer on backorder in his area.

I called both OM customer service and their rebate center to see how it would work if i bought the drive today but because it was back ordered, it didnt arrive for another 20-some days. (rebate says must be postmarked 14 days from purchase date).

Both departments told me to simply include a note with the rebate submission if it takes the full 14 business days to ship, and they should accept it.

That said, i ordered the drive + 10pk of DVD-Rs ($10) and a pen. Total came to just over 100, and $83 with tax and coupon. AR that puts me at $43 for DVDRW drive + 10 discs and a pen. Or rather, $31 for the drive and $12 for discs and pen, including shipping.

I was going to order the sound card but didnt want to mess with another backorder rebate and a product i'd never use. At least i'll put the discs and pen to use and the price wasnt too bad.

Edit #2: if you ever return an OM product and they offer you a gift card, be aware that if you dont use it within 2 years, they knock off $50 from the card and start taking $2 per month until the card is zeroed out or you use it. They don't notify you of this, either.

In CA. and some other states, gift cards never can expire and they can't take money from the gift card amount.

I ordered the DVD and Sound Card yesterday (Friday) at 5pm on the phone and used a valid $25 off 100 phone/internet coupon. The sales agent asked me to hand the coupon to the driver. I doubt the driver will ask for it but I really have a valid one so I don't care.

Sorta off subject - I don't really want a DVD Burner with a black bezel. Where can I get a white bezel ?

I'll trade if anyone wants to.

The ad with the Mad Dog 8x drive ran in the S.Cal area last week, you might still be able to put in a phone order, but the CSR might not want to give you $40 instant rebate making the price $89.99 because ad sale is no longer in your area, but you can give it a try.

Update: Some people who's Mad Dog drive order had been on backorder are reporting that they received the drive today, so you may be able to put a phone order for a drive that will be shipped immediately.
