I was at my Target (San Jose) and the cashier told me that I had to find another game priced at $14.88 in order to get the substitute. I showed her the rain check with the substitution policy and later called her supervisor to find out what to do. She then told me that her supervisor said that I had to wait until the raincheck expired (2-23-04) until I could substitute for another game! I was tired after a long day in lab so I decided to get the heck out of there before the cashier came up with more confusing and what seemed to be made up policies.

EDIT: BTW, the Target was the one on Silver Creek.

OMG and I thought Wal-Mart /Kmart employees were dumb. Target seems to be the worst.

I was thinking about picking up Madden 2004 this week but then I remembered that I just got Madden 2003 about 4 months back and the dam thing just doesn't play on my PC. I really wanted to play that game too...It's the first time that I ever bought a video game and couldn't get it to play no matter what I tried.

So far I have purchased four Xbox games using rain checks for Madden 2004: Max Payne 2, True Crime, ESPN Basketball and Deus Ex: Invisble War. I paid only $65 for all of them when those games usually sell for $50 a piece. True Crime was already on sale for $34.99 - after getting an additional 63% off, it ended up being only $12.95.

This is a fantastic deal and I still have two rain checks left that are valid until late February. I think I will go pick a few more up.

So you just go there and ask for a raincheck... then you just replace it with another game at the counter?

The store I went to had a stack of raincheck tickets where Madden 04 would be and you would just grab one, take to a cashier and get a raincheck. The cashier asked if I wanted just one, so I guess you can get multiple rainchecks on one visit. Between this and the $72 $100 gift certificate, Target has been quite good to me.

well, I got the last copy of Madden 2004 for my son, and then did the rebate thing to get Civ III for $15 (orginally 39.99).

I wanted to get the box set of WarCraft for 49.99 and offered to pay the diff $10 extra - but the store manager said only for same or lower priced games

But there were these young high school kids there going to pool their money to buy a fully price networked game. After I explained the raincheck deal (3 times , they went bonkers = each got a different one.

It nice to help out these kids out.

Thanks for this hot deal - looks like everyone benifits

although, it is unfortunatly some people abuse this.

Yeah, they have no problem giving you more than one. Both times I requested a rain check, the cashier asked me how many I wanted. When I said I wanted three, they gave me them with no hassle.

After looking at the product codes on receipts, it looks like things like XP Pro are in the same product category as Madden 2004 (PC). The rain check says you can substitute an item in the same product category and says nothing about them having to be of equal value in price. So, according to Target's own policy, they ought to let you use an item like that as a substitute. From looking at other forums, it looks like a lot of people are doing just that.

yup max payne was 50 bucks not 40 and they gave it to me discounted to 20. No hassle about same price or lower. It seems like these managers make up whatever policy to feel like they're regulating something (aka, getting paid for something). I couldnt get Simpsons cause it was already on sale. I'm sure it's just manager specific.

The chick at Target said I can only price match to a game that is $39.99, the regular price of Madden. I got Civ III Gold Edition but wanted the 63% taken off Vice City which was only $29.99. Hope Civ III is better than Madden.

I went to store #1 last night (no Madden 2004) and saw the store mgr as I was walking through the store so I asked him cant i substitute for another item since it's OOS, showing him the ad, per the RC policy. Took us a minute to get our communication straight. He said something about yeah do something with your RC and you get the same % of as the sale price. Not sure what he meant. 'Oh, you dont already have the RC?' I said no but it states you can sub for a similar item. He says, oh, thats a substitute, complete different from a RC. Yeah, go pick something out and you can get that price. So I picked MSFS 2004 (metal case). Took it to caucasian high school male laid back cashier and said [store mgr's name] said i can get this at this price [showing him ad]. 'OK. It's $14.88?' 'Yeah'. Rang up $54.99, but he easily put in $14.88. Surprise register didnt ask for a mgr's override.
I looked around but never saw a RC on the shelf but maybe I missed it. Tonight I went back and there were RC forms on the shelf, BUT there was now one copy of Madden2004. Dang. I took a form anyway.

Went to store #2. No Madden2004. No RC on the shelf. I grabbed Medal of Honor Deluxe ($50) and went to young african american female cashier. Other (all female) cashiers were big and mean looking. Showed her RC shelf tag (not actual RC) I got from store #1 and showed on the back where it mentioned a sub would be provided if possible (not the same long policy clause posted earlier in this thread - I guess from an actual RC), and told her I was told that I can sub this for this. She read and asked me again about it so I explained again. Rang it right up. No supervisors/mgrs involved whatsoever.

It's a lot easier getting things like this from certain cashiers than others.
I chickened out on trying to get more than one at time. Can't believe people are getting WinXP. I'm not that brave. My consense would get the best of me. MSFS2004 was pushing it for me (but about all they had left at that store, only other thing I was slight interested in was Ghost Recon GOTY w/ the 2 addons but it's probably about $15 on ebay and I already have the orig. GR). Almost got Max Payne 2, KTOR, or the newest Dungeon Seige (w/ addon) from other store. About all they had left there. Neither store had Call of Duty or H&D2, what I really wanted. Got one more store to check tomorrow.

Still not quite sure on the RC thing. You take the shelf RC tag to a cashier then what? Why do you really need to get a RC if your not going to use it for its real purpose, which is to get the same price on the RC item when that item comes back in stock? And what do you do if the store has no RC on the shelf? I never even had a real RC for either time. Just tell the cashier or mgr what you want to do per the RC policy.

Get the RC because it is good for 1 month.

Just take the voucher to the cashier and she just scans it and out pops a RC. If no vouchers, go to customer service and they can print one for you if you tell them the item you are looking for.

whats the deal with the xbox substitution??? Can you really do that??? Now that sounds ballsy. I'd by the whole lot at 15 bucks per a new release.

Its a YMMV with the console games. I know a few who have done it and a few who have been shot down. It all depends on how slow/stupid your cashier/manager is.

Best one IOHM is the Logitech Dual action analog. Real good price at BB and also has the dual analog sticks so you can use all the features.

When the raincheck prints out (this can be done at any register), the wording on the bottom states that you can get the same % off any reg price like item so XP shouldn't be a problem. Although as some have said the employees/Mgrs seem to make up their own rules.

I picked up Call of Duty and 2 copies of Office 2003 S&T edition yesterday and the Supervisor applied the 63% off without hesitation. As she put it, "it's printed right there on the raincheck". Today I went and picked up MOH Deluxe. Didn't bother with XP since both editions are only upgrades.

I still have a few rainchecks left but didn't see anything I wanted.
