If I were to return Max Payne 2, would i be able to get 49.99 towards a different game (or would I only get 14.88 credit)??? In other words, should I take my receipts with me or tell them I lost it?

Dont be an ass! Take what you got and be happy with it. Is your integrity really worth $35?

What I got.
I only purchased 1 or 2 at a time. Didn't think to get more RC's for later.
Funny how different stores had different policies. One supervisor or mgr (wasnt the main mgr) said he would only give me the $15 price on one game that was $40 normally, as was Madden, and not on the other game since it was $50. This even after his mgr said to go ahead and give me $15 price (not specifying for just 1 or both). He kept making up excuse after excuse during the whole process. The easiest ones were where a store mgr wasn't involved.

OT: While at one target, i wanted to return something w/out a receipt and was told i could only exchange it for something else in the same dept. One wal mart around here (the scummiest) tries to pull that, but all the others just give a store credit 'card' good for anything. Is there anything in their policy saying it has to be in the same dept?

I made the mistake of returning some gifts from distant relations to Target and as such did not have a store receipt, nor did I want to go back to my relatives and tell them that I did not like their gifts (several PC games that I had already bought and played). Target will issue a store credit or will allow you to get something of the same value in the same department. However, if you do this too many times, (I think I returned two Xmas gifts and later a B-day gift) they mark you and will not allow you to return any more items without a receipt of some kind. I think there is a similar policy at Walmarts too. I think this is to prevent less scrupulous types from using these big chains as "fences" for their ill-gotten gains.

Now I try to be more diplomatic and let my Mom tell them that they should save the receipts just in case. It worked well with one uncle, but my aunt now just sends me clothes...sigh...(G)

Just returned from the other Target.

Norton System Works 2004 $59.99 - 63% = $22.20
49.99 Item - 63% = $18.50
29.99 item - 63% = $11.10

Total went from $110.00 to $51.80

I waited while one person called another and another and another till I got it approved and they passed it just as some hermit crab old lady came up and started fussing about the whole thing. I said Thanks a lot to the 2 cashiers, laughed and walked away as the 3rd crabby one was still crabbing out. No more rain checks. Thanks OP.

First, I picked up the last copy of Madden 2004 for $14.88. Then I went back and picked up 3 RC's, and then used them immediately to get:
Call of Duty (original $39.99) $14.88
Tiger Woods 2004 ($39.99) $14.88
Max Payne 2 (original $50) $18.50

I also picked up 5 more RC's and then bought TaxCut ($19.99) for $7.40 which AR is $2.40. I was told that I can use the RCs for substitute products even after it expires on 2/25. So as soon as Half-Life 2 hits Target, I'm there (not holding my breath though)! Big time YMMV. Thanks for a good post.

I've used 4 of the 5 rainchecks I got. No one even blinked. One person took a little while to explain that it's just a percentage and doesn't have to be the same price as Madden 2004.

Picked up:
Medal of Honor, Deluxe Edition
Star Wars Galaxy
Civ 3 Gold
Max Payne 2

all for 63% off.

Got one left that I'm saving for Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

I went today to return Max Payne 2 (originally 49.99). I didn't take my receipt because I didnt want 18.50 credit. The girl said that I couldnt exchange it because it had been open. There was no celluphane wrap (sp), just a slip cover but I guess there had been a sticker or something over the opening. She said I could only exchange it for the same item. I was like, "what would be the point of that?" So anyways, I'm going to go back next week and try again and exchange it for the same item and then exchange it again (it'll be unopened for sure after that). These policies make no sense to me. If anyone would rather buy it off me for 40 shipped, hit me up.

If you break the seal you cannot exchange for another item.

I am surprised they will even consider exchange for the same item.

They have to exchange it for the same item. I have never seen a store policy that does not exchange an opened game/cd/dvd for the same item.

What p'd me off is one game I bought had been used and returned, and the jewel case was cracked, and stuff bent up, so I exchanged it for another, and the foreign girl at CS that I was dealing with opened the new copy I was exchanging for, just to barely pry open the flap to quickly peek in (ie. not enough to check the condition). WTF? Glad it's not something I wanted to ebay as unopened. She didn't half understand anything I was saying either.

That's what Target does in my area too and yes it's in their written policy however it's not posted to the public.

I did get lucky in the summer when the guy working the return counter gave me store credit instead of making me buy something right then and there.

That's what you get for opening it. Hell, it says right on the receipt that it can only be exchanged for the same item if open.

As for selling it to someone for $40. Take that crap to ebay considering you paid $20 after tax.

Yes I understood what you said earlier. The policy is logical to them since they are trying to stop people from playing a game or viewing a movie then returning it. They aren't thinking in terms that someone will exchange it for an unopened package so they can turn around and return it for something else.

As slickone said, when you go to exchange it for a new copy, they will open it at the register before they give it to you. So you will just have another opened copy.

I'm going to come out of the shadows and say what all of you did here was WRONG. You found a loop hole in the system and took advantage of it.

This was not a HOT DEAL by any means. It was a con job and all involved should be ashamed.
