If you have the raincheck and want to use it later, but Madden is in stock, can you still use it or do you have to take the product the raincheck is intended for?

i've gotten several PS2 games without a problem. it's definitely YMMV. i went pretty late at night and i guess the guy at the counter was pretty tired and just punched it in. the trick is to ask them for the game and try to checkout at the regular register, tell them you're still shopping. if they hand it off to you you're pretty much golden.
today is last day to get rainchecks.

Once you have the rain check, it does not seem like they go back and check to make sure the item is still out of stock. I think most cahsiers will just assume that they are out stock if you are using the rain check and I doubt that they are going to go check the shelves. So using a rain check later should not be a problem even when they get Madden 2004 back in stock.

But I would use it now because it seems possible that they will change their rain check policy after all this.

The girl at the counter was very busy and flustered. She had given away lots of rainchecks before but never a substitute. She had to call up to office and find out what was up. Meanwhile the customers stacked up.

39.99 game for $14?

I went to the Lakeland, FL store. They had 2 on the shelves, but the rainchecks were attached to the shelves. Gave me three rainchecks without checking. Bought Dungeon Seige for 14.88.

That is the only thing on the RC that is limiting in nature... I still got it @ 63% off though. Good stuff.

Huh? Why did you want to overpay for Office 2003 S&T like that? Even at 63% off of Target's price it's too much. If you are really a student or teacher you should be able to get it from your campus bookstore for about $17.

You guys rock! I picked up Neverwinter Nights Gold, Max Payne 2, Grand Theft Auto Vice City and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 at one Tar-jay, then boogied on over to the next closest store and bought Soul Calibur 2, Legacy of Kain, and Lord of the Rings RotK! The first manager rung it right through with no problems, the second one tried to be an @ss and told the clerk over the walkie talkie that I was only allowed to buy same priced items in that category. I started complaining about waiting in line for over 40 minutes and how it didn't specify that on the bottom of the raincheck blah blah blah, so the girl felt bad for me and rung it through anyway! Score! Thanks OP!

Get this... I tried to use the substitution policy at the last Target I went to where Madden was OOS to get The Hobbit, which was regularly $29.99. The moron manager said that I had to get a game that was the same original price as Madden. I didn't point out that some of the other Targets have said "$39.99 or less" while others haven't put a price limit on the game. I did point out to her that she would be loosing less money by letting me apply the 63% discount to a lower-price game, but logic didn't seem to penetrate with her. So, I put The Hobbit back and picked up The Sims Deluxe Pack instead.

Wish I could get them to let me use this on console games, but as stated, that's a huge YMMV and it hasn't worked for me.

So far I've picked up from various Target stores:

2 x Madden 2004 (which I bought for my brothers-in-law and also so they'd be OOS since they were the last two copies)

The raincheck says right on it.

"Choose a substitute and recieve the same percentage off (listed above) on a regular-priced item within the same product category (i.e. TV for TV, doll for doll, shirt for shirt).

Tis means ANY item in the PC games / PC Software section. Also it means ANY REGULAR priced item. If you get a for sale item for the discount feel lucky.

so far, i feel very fortunate on this one. I went straight to the customer service desk, and asked for a RC for Madden. They filled out 2 forms manually.......the best part about this is that mine have no expiration date marked anywhere on them. I might have to hold these until Doom3 and HalfLife 2 come out to get a smokin deal.

I hope the rainchecks they filled out state that you'll get 63% off any like item otherwise they're worthless. The only discount the old manually filled out rainchecks gave were 10% off.

I bought neverwinter nights gold and homeworld 2 with one of my rain checks. Best part is the girl asked me if I want the rain check back so of course I said ok. I think I'll just start collecting all the console games by reusing these RCs over and over.

Yes I picked up 2 yesterday but my raincheck was for 3 games. She just gave me the same rain check back for 3.

I even asked he to print a new one with just one game on it and she said keep the old one.

You and dabuddha obviously didn't read Nivo's post above which I was referring to.

He said they manually filled out his rainchecks. That's the old way Target used to do it and if the item doesn't come instock within a certain amount of time, he'll get a card in the mail that says to take 10% off another item in the dept. If they didn't specifically write that he'll get 63% off another item, I'd say his raincheck is worthless.
