I posted a thread about this, involving a little more wheeling/dealing, you can find it Here. By the way, could a mod please tell me why it was locked? Was it just cause there was a lot of thread-pooping going around in it? Basically, why not PM the Staples price this week AR to the BB AR price (should work, right?) so you get another $20 and you get it for $60.

Before someone asks, although they are labeled 2mb, many ARE in fact 8mb drives. I can confirm this personally.

I would say that there a few that are 8MB cache from what I found in a couple of stores. I found 1 out of about 20 at one store that were 8MB. The key is in the serial. I believe the 2MB is "L0" and the 8MB is "P0" or vice versa.

Please note that this Rebate is only good for Staples.com NOT the B&M stores. Read the fine print...

I plan on doing my PM next week (3/16), as I already have the drives from the B&M, BUT they were both the 2MB cache.

FYI, I got the 2MB version from Staples last week but found the 8MB version on the shelf at Best Buy. I also checked at the local B&M Staples and they only had the 2MB version.

Won't Staples say that since you already used your $30 off coupon, the drive was already cheaper than the $139.98 price? I know it's happened to me before. Then because you adjusted it down, you can't use the $30 off coupon. It's a YMMV situation...depending on if the manager gets involved.

Picked this up today with the 30 off 150 and also used the 40 coupon I received from Discover card cashback.

Did a rebate form print out when you pruchased the drive at the B&M?, because the on-line rebate form says Staples.com only.

The rebate clearly mentions the serial no. beginning with "LO" !

Does anyone know if the order will still be good if it was ordered at the store kiosk?

When they say 100GB + 20GB, its basically one 120GB drive right? I hate tricky advertisements...

so under their 110% low price guarantee you get another $11 back

Their 110% guarantee doesn't apply to their own prices. It's only 100% there.

"If you find a lower price in a Staples store, Staples catalog or on our website, www.Staples.com, we will match the lower price. The additional 10% of the price difference does not apply. "

In this case it's only $1, but something to consider for other purchases.

Just my experience, but I BELIEVE that all drives are labeled on the box/upc as if they are 2mb, sometimes they are actually 8mb. At least on mine that's what happened

$80 shipped for a 7200rpm 120GB drive is pretty good. I had to jump on this one.

Thanks MysticMan1.

I remember being amazed when 1GB drives dropped to $200!

Actually if you get lucky and get am 8MB cache drive, those are covered by a three-year warranty. Enter your drive info on the Maxtor warranty support site and you will see that those drives are covered for three full years.

And FYI, you can tell which drive is in the box from the label on the outside. There is a 4-digit code written vertically on the right side of the label. If that code begins with an "L" then it is 2MB, if it starts with "P" then it is 8MB.
