This deal rocks! I got one, my fiancee got one, and my mom got one (and 50 CDs a pop, too). Thanks, MysticMan1!

I'll try PMing after they arrive, just to make sure we've got them in-hand.

The Staples $40 mir runs from 3/2 to 3/29, limit 1. If you already purchased 1 then you probably can't buy another 1 w/in this time frame.

Im missing the logic here..
149.99 + something to get over 150.. PM compusa - 30 (or 33 if you get the 110%) = 119.99 (or 116.99) - 30 coupon (30 off 150) = 89.99 - 40 MIR = 49.99

but where does the need for $3 to get the coupon to work come in to play?

twikoff:

I THINK this is the logic:

Today's price for the 120gb drive is $139.94 - to get over $150, you have to buy the $12.94 Maxell 50cd pack (with 10 rebate).

That would make this:

$139.94 + 12.94 = $152.88 - 30 coupon = $122.88 - TWENTY pricematch = $102.88 - 10 rebate - 40 rebate = $52.88 + (tax on $102.88) for both items.

Now, that said, unless you get a nice CSR, they ARE starting to say that the coupon counts (they didn't yesterday), so you might have to buy more to get over $150 after the pricematch.

if i already bought the harddrive for 149.99 - 30 - 40MIR - 23.79PM = 56, can i still call in and get another $10 off since they have that 10 instant rebate?

Probably the absolutely most "easy" way to do this deal right now - i.e. for those of us with queasy stomachs who don't like arguing with CSRs or salespeople:

Go to the B&M store.
Make sure you get the 120gb 8mb cache version. (No worries about what you get in the mail!)
Take the B&M 30/150 code with you (yeah, you have to find it, but that's easy)
Grab THREE of the Maxell 50cd packs (no rebate limit best I can tell).

Go the counter, total is currently: $139.94 + 3(12.94) = $179.76 - ask for Pricematch to Compusa (up to $22 if they 110% this) = $157.76

Use the 30/150 coupon = $157.76-30 = $127.76 (no complaints - total is still over $150)

Final total = $127.76 (+tax) - 40 rebate - 3(10) rebate = $57.76 + (tax on $127.76)

You get 120gb 8mb cache drive, and 150cdrs.

With hopefully no hassles and no concerns that you are subverting the system....

I think they'd properly argue that they gave you 23.79 off already, so the $10 is less than that.

On the OTHER hand, if you want to ask them to price match against Compusa vs. Best Buy, that might work, but personally, I think you (and me, i did the same thing) should be happy with the $56 price - as long as the credits properly come in.

I'm just thinking of running to the store with my paper B&M coupon and getting another one.

This might be a difficult PM for Staples, they may say that at $120 you would lose the $30 off $150 coupon unless you added item(s) worthy $30.02, if you PM the internet site they may want to add overnight shipping charges, if you PM the store they may want to call to see if they are still in stock and compusa often runs out of stock on sales items fast.

Exactly. Which is why I advocated the B&M purchase with 3 of the 50cdr packs - no arguments, no hassles, and the cdrs END UP only costing $10 for 150 of them.

i can see this being a valid method.
as other people who are frantically trying to pm, you never know staples will pull at the end of the deal (1) taking coupon off (2) invalidating your rebate (3) or whatever.

when i pricematched, the CSR didn't even seem aware of the 30 coupon, and for the shipping charges, can't you tell them you have a promotional code that gives you penny shipping?

here is what I just did...

Harddrive 149.99.. PM with compusa to bring down to 124.99 (they went to 119.99, but insisted on the $5 for compusa shipping).. but from 124.99, I still needed to get above 150 (before tax) to use the 30 off 150.. so I added in 2 spindles of cds for 12.94 each ($10 rebate).
this brought me to 150.87 (161.43 after tax). then used the 30 coupon to drop to 150.87 (131.43).. but my actual charge was 129.33 (not sure where I gained back the other $2.10..

so now Im at 129.33 - 40 MIR - 10(2) MIR = $69.33 total for the drive and 2 spindles of cdrs
maybe $79.33 if I can only get one of the rebates for the cdrs

besides for insisting on the $5 for compusa shipping.. it was pretty easy.. an no hassle at all for the pricematch or use of both a rebate and coupon.

Well, I figured I'd share my experience. I did not want all the extra CD-R's...(Have too many as it is), so I went for the simplest method. I placed my order on-line at Staples...

139.XX for the HD + 12.94 for the Maxell CD's - 30/150 coupon.

Called up Staples. Told her I'd like to PM. Too bad I did not catch her name as she was speaking quite fast. Anyway, she puts me on hold. Comes back..says she's crediting me $21 and change. No word or mention of the coupon. First try and everything.

Maybe I'm just lucky....

I guess we'll see...

and I just thought of 1 more way to make the deal even sweeter

I needed to pick up some blank cdrs for work anyways.. so I can just go ahead and expense these 2 spindles.

which after expensing the cdrs.. that would bring the total price of the drive (after tax and all) to $53.45 (43.45 if by chance I can get a rebate on both spindles)

Oh, ok - just didn't see that listed anywhere when I read the rebate offer. Well, there's lots of things to buy there...

If you are expensing them, use your work address for the second rebate check.

Score!!! Same process/results. I got CSR, Martha just FYI people.

Heres a summary of what I did...

120GB HDD - Item #503796 - $139.94
12 Pack Lead Pencils - Item #406657 - $10.99 <~~~ I swear if I had a $1 for every pencil I lost

Merchandise Total: $150.93
Delivery Fee: $0.00
Coupon *****: -$30.00 Staples Coupon
Total Tax: $9.98
Order Total: $130.91

Called Staples up, and said CompUSA had the HDD for $119.99.
Gave me the pricematch + 110% + tax back. It was like $23 back?

So after rebate my total is ~$61 + taxes, which is about $70.

Woohoo! I just got an awesome CSR at Staples. He is going to credit the PM and I don't have to add anything to the order to get it above $150 after the PM.

If you don't need the CDRs you can use a $15 off $100 Staples coupon (there's no $20 off $100 around) to do the PM to compusa.

It would be $149.98 - $10 IR - $22 PM to compusa (110%) - $15 off $100 Staples coupon - $40 MIR = $63

Went into the local Staples and asked the CSR behind the counter about the 100+20 Gig hard drive on sale and immediately above the $99.94 price sticker was the 120 gig 8 meg cache version which he handed me. I asked if he had any more and he pointed to side by side stacks of Maxtor drives (100+20 2 meg versions). After informing him they were not the same. He argued and after three or four re-iterations, I took the drive he handed me to the checkout counter where the clerk rang it up as $199.00. After explaining what happened with the CSR and going back to him, he said it was misplaced on the counter and to ring it up as the one on sale. Now this one does not have a rebate, so the clerk rang it up $99.00. Now the Manager on duty had to ok the sale which he did. Lastly, I had a $10 off $40 which the clerk added to the purchase and for $89.94 I walked with the $199 version. Whoop de do!!
