Another example would be if you buy an item from us for $159 and you have a $30 coupon the net price is $129. If the item is available from another company for $125, the price match will be for $4.40 (110% of the difference).

There policy does say the coupon should be included in the staples net price. Guess this could be YMMV

edit: She didn't even mention the coupon that was used.

edit 2: Don't forget to mention that best buy has free shipping or that you can o to the store and pick it up. You can avoid the added shipping charge on the pricematch this way.

Do I pm my drive after I've purchased it? If i give them my order number can't they see the coupon?

Man. Trying to get Staples to pricematch another store for just $23 or so is like pulling teeth. I tried online twice and two phone calls, all no go. Immediately called back again and got a nice lady who did it with no problem. I suggest to those who haven't been able to do it is keep trying. It works!

Cool on the PM!!! I just called Staples, and they gave me a bit of a run around about pricematching to BestBuy.com, but when I mentioned there was a Best Buy store here in my hometown that I could go to, they agreed to give me the full PM!!

Awesome!

Thanks so much y'all!

now, if only I could have gotten the 8mb...oh well...

P.S. Is there a significant difference, besides warranty on the performance of the 2mb vs. 8mb?

Just curious....

I also just PM'ed with BestBuy and got $23 back. The CSR was only going to credit me about $5 since Staples is shipping my drive overnight, and BestBuy only has free "standard" shipping. I mentioned that I could just go to a local BestBuy and pick it up for completely free shipping. The CSR called the store to make sure they had one in stock, and since they did, they did the full 110% PM.

Is everyone just accepting verbal PM assurance? Or is anyone getting anything "in writing"?

I only got a verbal "you'll get 23.xx back" - I said send me an email and he said sure, but I don't think I'm getting an email. Hopefully I'll get the PM after the order ships.

I called 1-800-3STAPLE to pricematch to BB, and the first time I got Sharon, who said that they don't price match against rebates. I called back, and the second time, I got Michelle, who said that if they pricematch, they have to take off the $30 coupon, which makes it a worse deal. I wonder how many times I can call before I start getting the same reps.

EDIT: Called back, spoke to Don, who said "I see a note here on your account that you've already called." Darn. Anyway, I said that I had a friend who was able to get them to price match, and she replied "if do the pricematch, the computer automatically removes the $30 coupon." Don't know if it's true.

Anybody have a pricematched reciept showing both the coupon and the price match?

I was waiting till Sunday to buy with the additional $10 instant rebate, but you save about $10 extra to PM Best Buy now. Thanks for the plan.

As long as you don't get Sharon or Michelle, like a2k did. To defend Sharon and Michelle, they may be giving "correct" information (at least the policy does say what Michelle said about the coupon).

Of course, I'll happily take the fact that they PMed my order without either of those defenses.

Given a2k's edit, I'll of course watch the credit card bill carefully.

I lucked into the 8MB cache model with a three year warranty. The warranty is strange, because I thought Maxtor was going to 1 year warranty across the board. Maybe they felt the need to match the 3 year warranty Western Digital is giving on their 8MB cache models. The drive is almost new, manufactured in January. Thanks for posting this deal.

FYI...I spoke with Sylvia x 5390...I guess you could try her extension directly if you have had problems or just tell them a "co-worker" spoke with her and she pricematched it for him.

I could just imagine the scene in the Staples call center right now:

Phones ringing madly, people talking, answering calls, more phones ringing. But suddenly, all phones stop ringing! Over the silence, you hear "Thank you for calling Staples, this is Sylvia. How can I help you?" -- pause -- "You also have a coworker who purchased the 100+20GB maxtor hard drive and you want to price match against best buy?"

Very nice... I just hung up with Staples. It took all of 5 minutes for the nice CSR to credit me another $23.71. First call.

149.98 Maxtor 100+20GB (P6Y3)
-30.00 (30off150)
-40.00 (MIR)
-23.71 (PM to BB)
+10.50 tax
----------------
=66.77

It pays to be an edumacated shopper

Last week I got the 2MB version of this drive from Dell. Today I got the 8MB version with longer warranty from Staples. Needless to say, I want the faster and longer warranty drive in the torture boot position. So I used Ghost to transfer my drives. First impressions are the 8MB cache feels faster. At least in my two drives, the 8MB cache drive is quieter.

With the Dell $109 and Staples $90, I got 240MB of hard drive for $199 after rebates, or 82 cents per gig. This is the total cost, shipping, tax, everything. Now I don't regret passing up the Dell server deal with twin 120 GB drives.

do you have to ask for the specific model or what? I might just buy in store. Then come back later that day and have them call staples and ask if the pm to best buy would be ok

If you have the 30/150 coupon for the store and have another $10 worth of stuff to buy (not hard to do), I'd probably now buy in store on 3/16.

Given a2k's issues, you would get the drive for $139.98, use a 30/150 coupon (note comment above about "other stuff"), and then have the rebate.

that would still be 140-30-40 = $70 and no worries about bad reps as you walk out the door with your unit, and also be sure it is the 8mb.

Then, if you want, go ahead and try to pricematch, but this time for another $11.

Probably a more "sure" way to get a good price and exactly the drive you want (8mb cache)
