Actually if you get lucky and get am 8MB cache drive, those are covered by a three-year warranty. Enter your drive info on the Maxtor warranty support site and you will see that those drives are covered for three full years.

And FYI, you can tell which drive is in the box from the label on the outside. There is a 4-digit code written vertically on the right side of the label. If that code begins with an "L" then it is 2MB, if it starts with "P" then it is 8MB.

are you sure? people are reporting that new 8mb drives also have a 1 year warranty now.
warranty overview of maxtor drives
pdf stating 1 year warranty only

wd 8mb drives still have a 3 year warranty and their other drives have a option of upgrading to 3 year warranty for a fee.

I bought one of these 100+20GB deals at Best Buy a couple weeks ago. Even though I have the L code as opposed to P, when I enter the information at the Maxtor site, it said my drive was under warranty until 3/31/06. Whether this means it is an 8MB cache or not I don't know...

My Maxtor 120GB hard drive just arrived and it says P6Y3 on the label on the box so I guess it's the 8MB version inside the box.

Is the SKU number the same for the 8mb cache drive and the 2 mb cache drive? I had a friend that has a Staples nearby his house go into Staples and he said that the 8 mb Cache drives were $200.

OK.. Let me get this straight. Did Maxtor screw up and put some 8 mb cache drives in the 2 mb cache boxes with the 1 year warranty markings? Sort of like what PNY did when they put the PC2700 RAM in the PC2100 packages? I'm a little confused about what's going on.

Can I check the warranty status using information on the box? I entered the serial number in the Maxtor site and it wasn't enough. Maxtor wanted some other info that I did not understand.

There is a set of #s (bottom left corner) below the SN on the drive, if it's 6Y120(P)0XXXXXX - then it's 8mb, if it's 6Y120(L)0XXXXXX - then it's 2mb.

The drive is $149.99 at Staples.com. The coupon is for $30 off $150. It won't let me apply the coupon because of the one cent difference. Can someone help me here?

Starting 3-16 Staples will have a $10 instant saving on this item making the price $139.98, so under their 100% low price guarantee you get another $10 back, making the total after rebate $69.98......For Staples coupons do a search on Google.com key word "Staples" coupons"
From what I found, the $30 coupon requires a $200 purchase!

I bought some "Post-Its" for 79 cents to push it over.

If you were to get an 8mb version, wouldnt they decline the rebate since it says the model number has to be L01J100. If it were the 8mb version, the UPC would say something different wouldnt it?

I got my Maxtor drive from Staples last week using the PM to Best Buy's after rebate price. I got an 8MB drive, though the box claims it's a 2MB one with 1 year of warranty. Checking on Maxtor's website verifies that it's got 3 years of warranty.

The model number on it is L01J100, so I don't think that the other 8MB drives would have a different kit number on them for the purposes of the rebate.

Does staples.com have any F.A.R. items available right now? If there are $50 worth, we can take advantage of the $50 off $200 and save an additional $20.

For the $10 instant rebate, would we buy it now, and then call them and they would credit our card $10, or do we need to wait till 3/16 to order?
