How is that dishonest? You bought an unopened drive model number L01J100 from CompUSA, and you returned an unopened drive model number L01J100 to CompUSA. I don't think that's dishonest, I just think that's shrewd.

I tried to do the pricematch (for the 4th and final time) again this morning. Told them about the CompUSA price, helped them find it on their website, got managers approval, and heard those magic words "I can do that pricematch for you" immediately followed by "but the system automatically voids the $30 off coupon because your order is no longer over $150." I tried to add the CDR spindles, but she wasn't able to add anything to an order after 5:00pm on the day it was made. My last ditch was to return and re-order, but she reminded me that the $30 off $150 is a one time coupon.

I really hope that I've just had bad luck and everyone else's price matches go through WITH the coupon. I'm giving up on this one...

a2k - I've been charged for the unit, but have not been credited with the price match. Haven't received the unit yet either (due tomorrow), so I'll try to be patient on this a couple more days and hope the PM comes in.

Okay, I ranted before because my order was canceled and then the CSR charged be full price for the CD-Rs, but got credited later for that. Today I checked and CompUSA has the drives back in stock so I tried for the PM and GOT IT!!!! Here's how everything works out:

Maxtor Hard Drive #503796 139.94
Maxell Blnak CD-R #430570 12.94
---------------------------------------------------
Total 152.88
Coupon - 30.00
---------------------------------------------------
New Total 122.88
Taxes off $122.88 @ 8.25% 10.14
Shipped Total 133.02

Staples Price 139.94
CompUSA PRice 119.95
---------------------------------------------------
Difference 19.95
110% Pricematch 21.95

Original Total Before Taxes 122.88
Pricematch credit -21.95
---------------------------------------------------
New Total before taxes 100.93
Taxes on new total 8.33

Final Cost w/ free shipping 109.26

When I called the credit was 23.76
Of which the taxes was -1.81
---------------------------------------------------
Which brings the actual credit to 21.95
which I deducted the total above

WOW! Now I need to make sure that I get this reflected on my credit card.
After I mail in the rebates of $40 and $10 it will look like this:

Final Cost w/ free shipping 109.26
Hard Drive MIR -40.00
CD-R MIR -10.00
---------------------------------------------------
Final Cost $59.26

Not bad for a 120 GB 8 MB cache hard drive with 3 year warranty and 50 blank CD-Rs. I called and I should be getting my package on Thursday. THANK YOU HOT DEALS!!

Well, last night I ordered from Staples.com and got the CDRs. Today I called to PM and Stephanie credited me $23.xx after waiting on hold a couple of minutes. Hope the rest of you get it. Don't give up a2k!

I purchased over $170, including $30 of work supplies; so, I was over the $150 after the PM. If I've done the math correctly you could get to the ~170 amount by buying both of the CDR spindles and something else for $5.

just did this deal at local staples B&M, managed to PM to compusa 79.99 (local had it in stock) manager was crossing her fingers and muttering "please let them be out of stock" while on the phone
rang up 139.94,
110% PM -65.95
subtotal 73.99
w/ tax $80.09

& $40 rebate printed up -- note that this is a staples rebate, not mfr. says "at staples" not staples.com, valid btwn 3/16/03 & 3/29/03. attempted to add $1.50 worth of extras and use a $15 off $75 printable, but it came back rejected. I then had them redo the entry, adding the $15 off prior to entering in PM, and still rejected. Presumably the code used (16 digits, came from the website generator that the newbie just posted) was one-time and someone beat me to it. They said I could come back tomorrow with the receipt and a different code to try again, so if that works:
73.99
-15 coupon
sub 58.99
w/ tax 63.86
-40 MIR
23.86

or $2 more if I need to be at exactly $75
note that this was an "L" drive, maxtor.com says 1yr warr. nonetheless, hot!

How about this...go to your local CompUSA, or Best Buy, Staples, etc....anyplace that carries this drive...and find a box that has the P6Y3 code on the label. Buy that drive on a credit card and don't worry about the price or rebates, because you're gonna return it. Just swap it for the L6Y3 you got from Staples, and there you have it...no hassles, since it's the same model and SKU. Return the 2MB drive and live happily ever after.

Woo hoo. Called for a second price match against CompUSA - even said it was a second price match, and they (a guy named Ronnie) were very nice about the whole thing.

First price match HAS already appeared on the credit card, which is why I went ahead and called - one to thank them for the price match, then say, hey, how about another.

Total price for 120gb hard drive - $149.99 - $30 coupon + tax = $127.66
First price match = $23.65
Second price match = $11.83 (verbal, not on card yet)

Final charged cost: $92.18
Rebate - $40 (someday) ===== total final cost = $52.18 TOTAL

Now let's see if I get the 2mb or 8mb cache unit tomorrow. I won't complain with either at this price.

I ordered two. Both arrived this week. early one (ordered last week) is 8mb. later one (ordered this week) is 2mb. I believe the 8mb is phrasing out and difficult to get. But for $100 total (maybe $65), two 100+20Gb, I stay with the two.

D'oh! CompUSA is sold out online again!

Doesn't matter, though, because I called to try to PM the two I bought. Both got shot down ("PM will bring you under the coupon amount"). I already bought the Maxell spindle to get me over the $150 hump, so PMing $20 will only let me get one spindle of the Sony CD-Rs but I'd still be ~$10 under the $150.

Any advice on what to do? Should I call back and try someone else? Any other almost-FREE-AR items you guys have used to get over the $150 again?

Thanks!

edit: Has anyone been able to add to their order successfully after it has shipped out?

I just got mine, and it's a 2mb version, I think I'm gonna order another one with a power supply too and see if I can't score a 8mb one. I order this last week when it was hot, and it took them 5 days to ship it to me. I hope they're not running out on 8mb ones. If I get a 8mb I'm gonna return this 2mb or sell it. I wish there was a compusa or bestbuy near.

Just ordered another drive with Sony CDR's and got PM, so now I'm just gonna sit and wait and hope it's an 8mb cache, if not, I might have to set up raid config with my 2x120GB for only 130 total.

Well, I ordered mine today...after trying to talk myself out of it for the last couple of weeks!

Phone ordered and got them to PM the drive down to 119.99 with a CompUSA that had them in Lansing, but keep in mind that's a 2hr drive for me.

I then ordered the Maxell and Sony CDr's and a couple of HP 2.94 packs of paper to get it up to the $150 mark again to use the $30 off coupon. So....

$119.99 - ($20 PM) = 119.99 120gb Maxtor
$12.94 - $10 MIR = 2.94 Sony 50pk CDR's
$12.94 - $10 MIR = 2.94 Maxell 50pk CDR's
$ 2.94 - $ 0 = 2.94 HP 500sht Multi-purpose paper
$ 2.94 - $ 0 = 2.94 HP 500sht Multi-purpose paper
-----------------------------------------
$151.75 - $30 CPN = 121.75 + 9.11 tax - $60 in MIR's = $70.86 total. not too bad!

Thanks guys! My wife is now going to have me killed. nice knowing you!

Any definitive differences in the 8mb vs 2mb cache?

Sure, the 8mb is better - but is it really worth a lot of trouble to try to get the 8mb other than just to be able to say "I have the better one"?

Yeah, I know, that's what hot deals are all about, but I was just wondering as to the overall difference.
