I know that 8mb increases performance quite a bit, at least from reviews i've seen on the western digital special editions. I've seen reviews comparing those wd 8mb hd to other 8mb hd, and maxtor beats wd on some occasions. So I'm assuming maxtor 8mb is much better than 2mb. Unfortunately I can find any reviews for the 2mb drives, but there are plenty of 8mb reviews.

Doesn't matter, though, because I called to try to PM the two I bought. Both got shot down ("PM will bring you under the coupon amount"). I already bought the Maxell spindle to get me over the $150 hump, so PMing $20 will only let me get one spindle of the Sony CD-Rs but I'd still be ~$10 under the $150.

Any advice on what to do? Should I call back and try someone else? Any other almost-FREE-AR items you guys have used to get over the $150 again?

Thanks!

edit: Has anyone been able to add to their order successfully after it has shipped out?
Call back (1-800-333-3330) and talk to a different CSR

Does anyone have valid TLA/GTLA code for "L6Y3" drive? I want to check warranty status without openning the box.

I think this is what you are looking for.

I need serial number + TLA/GTLA code. Serial number written on the box. TLA/GTLA code is imprinted on the drive label. To find out what it is I need to open a box. If anyone already have L6Y3 open please give me TLA/GTLA code from the drive's label

I bought this drive online, anyone know what I mail in (for the rebate) as my receipt? Is it a print out from my online order or what? Thanks!

MagicianBdotCom, As a receipt for Staples I always send in the order summary found by clicking on order status at the top of the Staples web home page and entering your order number. I've heard others send in email confirmations etc as a receipt. Staples is pretty good about reliability so I don't think it's critical what you send in just so it shows the item identification and order date.

Does anyone know if there's a difference between the 100+20 GB Maxtor and the 120 GB standard Maxtor drive in terms of how they're built/function and or performance?

The PM to compUsa was incredibly easy; took all of about 3 minutes. They didn't ask me for any details about the Compusa drive (web address, etc) . I suspect that the Staples CSRs have an internal memo to approve this PM. Hard to beat 120 GB for $60.

I tried to do the pricematch (for the 4th and final time) again this morning. Told them about the CompUSA price, helped them find it on their website, got managers approval, and heard those magic words "I can do that pricematch for you" immediately followed by "but the system automatically voids the $30 off coupon because your order is no longer over $150." I tried to add the CDR spindles, but she wasn't able to add anything to an order after 5:00pm on the day it was made. My last ditch was to return and re-order, but she reminded me that the $30 off $150 is a one time coupon.

I really hope that I've just had bad luck and everyone else's price matches go through WITH the coupon. I'm giving up on this one...
Are you calling 1-800-333-3330???, if not try your PM at that number.

Just called the 800-333-3330 number and finally GOT THE PRICEMATCH!!! Woo-hoo! Took a little conviction - I had to insist that my neighbor, two friends, and several co-workers all with the exact same order had all pm'd successfully. Now I need to find myself a good IDE card.

Im pretty sure they are the same drive, just different packaging
but it sounds like if you get the 100 + 20.. then you have a chance for the 8mb drive
but if you get the 120.. then your going to get what you pay for (2mb)

I wonder if Staples, CompUSA, Best Buy, or who else sells hardware knows how much we work hard in order to get the lowest possible price on items? I wonder if they know about this thread? It's like we are some sort of resistance undergound group trying to 'stick it to the man'. Would they be more vigilant on their policies and close up the loopholes?

I got an L6Y3, not the P. Given that's what is actually advertised, and given the price, I guess I can't complain.

Closest Staples to me is almost 100 miles, so I guess I'll keep this one and have fun.

Well, I certainly whined pretty hard for it, but all told, I was probably on the phone with my various new friends at Staples' call center for about 20 minutes. Works out to an hourly rate of $105, which ain't all that bad.

Oh, I also scored the P6Y3 8mb special.

Just received the 2MB version. Can't complain though. 120 gigs for less than 50 cents a gig!

I'm thinking of getting another one....

Best bet at the moment is to get one, price match, and add 30 worth of other cool stuff? How's the CSRs acting on current PMs on this deal?

That's what I'm thinking... I'll give my PM another shot tonight and look around for $30 worth of stuff that will be good to add to the order.

Who else sells this drive? I looked at my BB, CUSA and CC to do an exchange for a 8 mb cache drive. BB only had "L"'s and CC didn't even have it. CUSA only had one hard drive in stock because of their sale. No luck on Staples either. There isn't one within 100 miles of me. Heh.. Forget Fry's too. I only wish. Does OD or OM carry this drive? Am I leaving any other chain stores out?

TIA,

Sal

I think this deal is dead since, I don't know where you guys are gonna pricematch it to. Compusa's rebates expired on 3/20.
