Sounds like a bunch of BS to me, but he went on to say, that so long as I have a receipt that has the serial on it, and the date

That's what I was talking about. i read somewhere that no matter what in order to have 3 year warranty you have to purchase the product BEFORE maxtor change their policy. ANyone can shed any light on this?

There we go. Maxtor's Policy themselves. I think we're golden

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus ATA drives that have an 8MB cache buffer AND capacities of 120GB or greater will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 3 years. All other DiamondMax Plus drives will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 1 year. Note, however, that Maxtor-branded ATA retail hard drive kits carry a different Standard Warranty Period.

https://www.maxtor.com/en/support/service/warranty/warranty_at-a-glance.htm

That means pretty much all of us get's the 3 year warranty right?

Wrong. Read the rest of it.

Note, however, that Maxtor-branded ATA retail hard drive kits carry a different Standard Warranty Period. See below for details.
Outside of EMEA, Maxtor-branded retail ATA hard drive kits will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 1 year regardless of capacity or buffer size. Maxtor external hard drives will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 1 year with the exception of the Maxtor Personal Storage 3000LS drive, which has a Standard Warranty Period of 90 days.

We are outside of EMEA (European, middle eastern, and arabic) countries. Therefore we have a 1 yr warr... we be f()cked up the @ss with this warranty legalise.

Well, for warranty proof you could always print it out now and get it signed by a notary or mail it to yourself and leave it sealed. Either would provide dated proof of the printout(although I guess they could say you forged it then).

Don't forget many credit cards including AE and Citibank Mastercard have a buyer's assurance program which doubles the manufacturer's warranty period. So one year warranty actually extends to two years.

Whoa! So your saying that any purchase I make with my Visa card gives me one year extra warranty automatically?

Have many of you folks actually seen the PM credit post to your credit cards yet?

I placed the order and PM on monday, no credits yet.

A lot of them actually give you double the warranty period. So if it came with 2 years, now you have 4 years.

Actually, most I have seen say double your warranty (up to 1 year extra). That's what Amex has anyways.

Dang, all this time ive been buying the extended warranty. Is the Visa warranty a hassle, or pretty smooth?

I Just got my HDD. it says 3 year warranty. I confirmed it on their website

Serial Number Model TLA/GTLA Warranty Status
Y40QKB1E 6Y120P0 6Y120P0040601 In Warranty - expiration date: 3/8/06

Apparently they calculate the warranty from maxtor warehouse shipping date, not consumer purchase date

I have recieved the credit on my account yet. I Just called staples and they told me $81.61 was charged back to my card on 6/10. So i guess it will show up on m,y account tomorrow

I guess my Amazon.com Visa card doesn't count. right?

On a side note. this new 120GB HD is so damn quiet. I can barely hear it church unlike my older Maxtor 60gb with 2 meg cache. Does this one have liquid ball bearings or something?

It doesn't matter who issues the card. If the card is a Visa Gold, platinum or signature, you are covered. This is a service from Visa not from bank

so if even a regular visa is covered. Is there something I can print out to gaurantee my warranty or something? Or just wait for the day my HD breaks and I need the warranty and just call up VISA and go, FIX IT!

Hey, after viewing many posts on the Hotdeals today, I hit the streets...$30 GF4 420 64mg at Walmart, $20 DVD at Office Depot, $20 52x CDR/CDRW AR at Microcenter. Next thing I need for my system is a good sized harddrive. MysticMan, I want to try this Staples Pricematch, but question, if I may? When I read the Staples page on the policy for PM, it said that it deducted the coupons before the PM, not after.

So, the HD is now 139.98 (-79.98 PM) = 59.99
59.99 * 1.1 = 65.98

139.98 - 65.98 = 74

Now I have the code for the $20 off the $100. Does this really get applied after the PM? I am not trying to irritating, but this is my first foray into this type of thing. I am ready to try, but it if the coupon gets applied before the pricematch, then the deal is about 76 for the HD, right?

119.98-79.98 = 39.99
39.99 * 1.1 = 43.98

119.98-43.98 = 76

Thanks for you consideration of my question.
