Kinky, I like the new box version's setup CD way better than the boot up floppy. Now you just put the CD in once your in Windows and it does everything without having to restart. I havent tried the drive image thing yet, but I wonder if it is any faster than it used to be. It would take all night to copy 50GB of data when windows does it in about 45 minutes

I think you need to read thru some of these posts bro No, they weren't deducting the coupon from the total before they PMed. Whether they caught on by now...I don't know. Why don't you order one and find out, and let us know? Worst case scenerio is that you cancel the order then and there.

BTW...for everyone else, my charges and credits have all appeared on my card today! Time to RAID them...

Office depot has the drive too, listed for $149. Couldn't we PM that to compusa's price? Office depot has some rebates though, a $20 and a $30, plus a combo $20 rebate if you buy the drive and PNY ram. There is also a 20 off 75 coupon for office depot around, so even if they take their rebates into consideration when PM'ing it should still be a good deal.

Office depot - maxtor 120gb 8mb cache

if they don't consider their own rebates
$149 - 20(coupon) -77 (110%PM)= 52 , ($2 if you can still use the OD rebates)
if they do
149 - 20(coupon) - 50 (OD rebates) - 22 (110% PM)=$57AR

This is all if they don't consider the coupon when PM'ing either, otherwise use a 10 off 50 coupon instead (add $10 to those totals).

You know, I have the worst luck with PM'ing. I tried to PM officedepot to compusa through email at first, and the email CSR flat out wouldn't PM compusa because [insert BS reason here]. Instead of arguing over email I called. The phone CSR didn't notice the OD rebates but after asking a manager came back to say they don't PM after rebate prices. So I just canceled the order. I am just horrible at this I guess.

A while back I bought a maxtor 160 gb (same model as this, 160 capacity).

When I got it, i ran the serial thru, came back with a 3 year.

4 months later, after it started failing , in the process of creating the rma, i reran the serial.

This time it came back with 1 YR!... WTF

I did print out the warranty results from the first query. I even called maxtor on it, and the guy said that
according to the database its got a 1 yr. Further he said the printout from the initial query could of easily been forged.

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me, but he went on to say, that so long as I have a receipt that has the serial on it, and the date
of purchase is BEFORE they changed to the 1 yr duration, they will cover it for 3 yrs.

To my knowledge, staples does not print the serials on the invoice, nor did the place i got the drive from (googlegear).

sooooooooooo... ultimately, ymmv after the 1st year

That's too bad. It's also FRAUD. Call the FTC, the BBB, your CC company, and also try to speak to a higher-up at Maxtor. Maybe even send the CEO's office a snail-mail about Maxtor's deceptive business practices.

This is not the first time that this has happened. Check out this link

I have not yet begun the RMA procedure for my 60GB DM+9 that failed, but be assured, that I will raise hell with them, should they try to defraud me out of my paid-for three years replacement/repair warrantee.

PS. Calling your local television station's consumer-protection dept (if they have one) might be fruitful. Maxtor is a pretty well-known company in the computer industry, and this could be a juicy scoop for them, exposing these recent warrantee frauds. (Almost as bad as rebate frauds, but I won't go there, everyone on ATHD already knows about those.)

Guys

Now I don't really intend to buy one of these Maxtor Drives (In Fact, I have a Maxtor RMA replacement drive being mailed to me next week.....); but is it really worth it to go thru all of the work with the PM & and rebates you might have to wait on for a new PATA IDE drive? Of Course everyone will shout me down and say YES!!! But I just bring up this minority opinion here as for the last two or even three months, I have seen every Sunday, without fail these type of 'complex' PM/Rebate deals that you have to do a lot of leg work just to get a drive with technology that is on the way out.

A few weeks back I was going to try and do one for a WD 120G HD @ CompUSSR, but it would of required a PhD. to figure it all out to get the PM and rebates to work. I was lucky, as on that Sunday, I called up a local BB and they had two remaining 120G w/8MB WD Drives for $80 left. I was pretty lucky to get one, WITHOUT all of the PM/Rebate headaches.

So what?s My Bloody Point, you ask? I just think that these 'deals' will continue through the summer maybe until SATA drives become more common; or their price comes down. But, why wait till then if you need a new drive TODAY! I dunno, it just aint worth all of the driving around town, and online stuff, the Price matching, etc. Just for technology that is on the way out.

And that?s my $0.02

I'm not one for the hard ones either... but this was easy and I never had to leave my home! It took 2 minutes online and a 5 minute phone call. Worth every penny!!! (Except that Staples beat the box to hell) At least it works.

Show me a benchmark/review that gives me a good reason to switch to SATA drives now and an awesome price to go with it. I would have to buy a new motherboard, not to mention rip apart my whole system and reinstall my os. That is a ton more work/money than spending 1 minute clicking through the staples site and 5 minutes on the phone requesting a pricematch. There was nothing difficult about this deal and is the best price I've paid yet on 120GB drives.

As for being "on the way out" there are a ton more PATA MB's out there then SATA. I don't think PATA is going away as soon as you make it seem.

I ordered the hard drive plus an item online last week for over $150, used $30 off $150. When I called to PM, the CSR said my credit card payment some how didn't work. So I gave him the necessary information. Now I check my credit card statement online, coupon was not applied. I don't think I can apply the $30 coupon now. :|

I am PISSED. I just got my bank statement, they never credited my account the amount they said they did and they charged me the FULL amount, no coupons.

EDIT: i called a CSR, they said that it is the STORES job to do the PM and credit back my account, WTF, she said even though I did it with a CSR (dirty minds), that it is still the local stores responsibility to remiburse me, she said that she would send them a letter/note that they need to price match it, but she said PM it to 79.99, is this correct?
