Can anyone confirm that the printable coupons work in-store? I tried to use one with a 16 digit code online and it said it already has been used. Doesn't the cash register machine at the store know when coupons have been used?

Not quite! You need to google an xp 48 bit lba search and ENABLE large drive support. XP defaults it to off.

Enable 48-bit LBA Support for Large Hard Drives (Windows 2000/XP)
By default Windows 2000 SP2, Windows XP and earlier versions of Windows do not support 48-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA) for drives larger than 137GB as defined in the ATA/ATAPI 6.0 specification.

Open your registry and find or create the key below.
Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called "EnableBigLba" and set it according to the value data below.

Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

Note: Please see Microsoft support article Q305098 for important information regarding this setting.

(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
EnableBigLba REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Atapi\P...

Registry Settings
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Atapi\Parameters]
Value Name: EnableBigLba
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

Just ordered one. Anyone know if the Dell 4550 will support the 160GB drive without the controller?

Says on the box you need XP sp1, 2000 sp3, or the controller card.

Thanks. I have XP SP1 installed so I am all set. I've just check my order status and there is nothing. I see my order history but never got the email confirmation

how's it $66?

179.99 - $30 off $150 = $149.99 - $80 rebate = 69.99

And all this is assuming you have no tax.

Zuffy,

Better call 'em and see if it went thru

Mine didn't. It shows the history online, but the card was never authorized or charged,
and when i called this morning, they have no record of the order --- rather the order exists, but no items are in it

And wouldn't you know its OOS now!

It is not helpful to mention that you used a gift/reward check in your hot deal. We don't care how you got your cash. If you mugged a passerby to get the money it does not make a hot deal for others.

Mine was the same way yesterday. It showed up in the order history but not under order status. I checked the order status this morning and now it shows that it has shipped. YES!

actually sometimes it is helpful, so stop complaining. it does not hurt you in anyway, it can only help.

Yeah, so I saw this deal up on another web site and then here in the forum yesterday and thought it looked great, but I don't need a hard drive, right?

WRONG!

I got home and my 40 GB Deskstar was dead

So I ran out to Staples and bought the $180 drive with the $80 rebate, not wanting to futz around with coupons that may or may not work. But that was a mistake. Today I went into a different Staples (one near work) with my reciept and a printout of a coupon from a "Hot Deals" website and got my $30 back!

So yeah, it worked just fine in store, there were plenty in stock, and it came with the free Maxtor IDE card.

PS. I run Win98 still and I just partitioned the hard drive into 4 partitions to avoid any "Large Drive" issues.

This is a good deal!

Just so you all know, the maxblast CD that comes with it will do the XP/2000 update for large disks for you if you use it to partition the drive initially after you install it. For those that don't feel comfortable doing reg edits themselves.

Most will probably need to update their BIOS too in order to support it, unless your machine is pretty new. Otherwise the including ATA/133 card will work fine.

Also note: if using the card, make sure you install the card and drivers in windows BEFORE hooking the drive up to it.

Staples doesn't charge your card until after the item has been deliveried, if you bought the drive on Sunday it will probably be deliveried on Tuesday.

Will XP see the card on its own? It did see the Promise Ultra100TX2 OK without the Promise drivers.

Ordered Sunday morning with a $20 coupon and mine shipped. Got credited with $3.62 in Ebates from Staples (Staples figures the Ebates percentage before coupons!)
