Son of a...

Good Deal! I just ordered this drive last Friday for 79.99 and I had to pay shipping too...wish I would have waited, it would have saved me $17.

 Take your trolling elsewhere. Everyone has different experiences with different HD brands.

I have a noob question for HD's... if I bought this, is there any way I could use it as an external HDD storage?
I'm not sure, but I think I heard a friend babble about an "encasement" in which you can encase the HD and it has cables
to connect from it to USB.... is it true? If so, then I'll probably jump on this one too

Is there such a thing as an adapter that fits in a card slot that would accept male SATA or IDE cables from both sides for an external drive?

Have Maxtors in my server now for years no problems. Maybe you should have the Geek Squad or whatever they are called hook them up for you, must have connected them wrong.

My experience with hard drive problems have been with BATCHES from manufacturers.

As an example, about a year ago I got *several* bad Maxtor drives all in a row. They were the same size/series/etc., and they all developed the same errors. RMA'd, got new ones, and they've been problem-free ever since.

Several years ago it was Western Digital who had the series of bad batches. Practically every WD drive I saw for a couple of months was full of troubles. RMA'd them, got replacements, everything was happy again.

Point being, just because you had a bad experience with any given kind of drive (brand/model/etc) doesn't indicate that there will always be troubles with that brand/model/etc. Bugs happen, they get found, they get fixed, and life goes on.

Bump for another hot deal.

Sound like maybe you're doing something to these drives to make them fail so much.

*points to the description in the original post*

UATA == Ultra ATA 133, so no, not SATA
