Here's a WTF moment.

I just received a nicely sealed and completely empty package from DHL, sans five interconnected airpacks. Trying to call Outpost (1-877-688-7678), but either the call gets dropped after I hit 2 for customer service (after some horrendously distorted hold music that keeps getting really loud, then really quiet) or my call can't even go through and I get a phone company recording, have heard around three different ones now like "your call cannot be completed as dialed, please check your number and try again."

Huh, I don't have time for this stuff, have classes in a bit (two quizzes and a programming assignment that I'm 4/5 complete and need to finish).

Again while typing this, my call (on speakerphone) got dropped after hearing some hold music, then the phone company recording, "if you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again, if you need help please call the operator."

Zap, I truly feel for you. DHL dropped my box off several hours ago and, yes, it was well sealed but, more important, it was full of goodies. Someone dropped the ball in shipping on yours. The weight of the package alone should have rung a bell. Don't waste your time trying to phone them since they rarely answer in under an hour or so. E-mail service@outpost.com and they are quick to reply.

For those who got in on the deal I just found that the Maxtor I ordered is NOT the one shown in the picture. No complaints though. I got the new version in the smaller white and red box that is a SATA II with 320GB. Maybe that's why the price is now $79.99 since this is a superior drive. And with a 3 year warranty to boot!

It did, but only after the delivery guy drove away. I was up until 7am working on an assignment and so the doorbell woke me up... staggered downstairs... sign... was handed box... stood there trying to figure out what I ordered that would be in a 12x12x10 box that weighed so little... OMGWTF!?!?!?

Retail-Packaged Products Warranty Periods

Maxtor retail-packaged products purchased on or after October 1, 2006 will carry the following Maxtor Standard Worldwide Warranty.

ATA/SATA Internal Hard Drive Kits 3 years
So, regardless of what it says on the box or on a vendor web site, if you have an invoice for the drive dated 10/1/06 or later, the drive has a 3 year warranty. Just save the invoice for proof. Hopefully Western Digital will follow suite and we'll be back where we all started.

Note that this applies to internal drives only. External drives still have shorter warranty periods.


i read on a business news site that seagate is offering 3 year standard on all maxtor drives, so i think its true

Slight update. Someone else making a purchase from Outpost also didn't receive a drive, a reviewer by the handle of Jtang81 with an order date of 11/27/06.
I placed an order for two Maxtor 300GB SATA 1.5Gb/s drives just back on 11/27. I received a poorly packaged box with one hard drive inside and an aired out bubble pack. The box was pretty bashed up, but luckily the retail maxtor box inside was pretty resilient so seemingly no damage to the drive itself.

They messed up the packaging and only sent me 1 of 2 drives, but charged me for 2 which is says on my credit card statement and the receipt inside. Trying to get a hold of their customer service is incredibly hard if not impossible.

What's the word on it, what has there investigation concluded? Or do you know yet?

Wow! 3.6 out of 10 on resellerratings....geez...that's bad.....as much as deals get posted on here for that site! IMO

I ordered 2 on 11/26 after seeing this thread.. Delivered on 11/29, in sealed retail boxes.. No problems so far ..

According to the DHL tracking site, my package has been on the delivery truck since Wednesday, November 29th, and they STILL have not delivered on Monday, December 4th. I hope it eventually gets delivered, and is NOT an empty box. I am going to lower their resellerratings a bit myself, due to this shipping snafu. After all, DHL is their choice, not mine....

Don't know about the other guy, but mine hasn't been concluded yet. Wednesday is "4 days" so we'll see... soon...
