If they ship with the new Maxtor-style box they should have a three year warrany. The Fry's I go to had tons of these 300GB SATA drives in the new boxes. The two 300 GB ATA drives I bought at Fry's on BF have a 3-year warranty.

The one in the picture doesn't look like the new style

If these came with a 3 year warranty, I'd be all over it.

Here's the $69 one with free shipping. It is a different model from the $59 offering because the cheaper one was SATA150 and this is 300. A reasonable deal.

BTW, keep your receipts because... ALL MAXTOR RETAIL BOX INTERNAL DRIVES NOW HAVE 3 YEAR WARRANTIES.

Warranty Periods
Retail-Packaged Products Warranty Periods

Maxtor retail-packaged products purchased on or after October 1, 2006 will carry the following Maxtor Standard Worldwide Warranty.

ATA/SATA Internal Hard Drive Kits 3 years
So, regardless of what it says on the box or on a vendor web site, if you have an invoice for the drive dated 10/1/06 or later, the drive has a 3 year warranty. Just save the invoice for proof. Hopefully Western Digital will follow suite and we'll be back where we all started.

Note that this applies to internal drives only. External drives still have shorter warranty periods.

Thanks for the corrected link! I just ordered one for a DELL SC420 that had its SATA drive die many months ago and has sat idle since. Now I'll be able to get her back up and running!

Really tempting, and really afraid. I recently had two dead drives, both were less than 6 months old. Ask around, twenty some friends all had dead ones since last year. Do you have bad Maxtor? Or, we are unlucky bunch? We used to trust Maxtor and WD equally.

At this point in time IMO there is not one HDD brand that is more reliable or unreliable than another brand. You need to understand that any HDD regardless of brand can fail. #1 have a backup. #2 hope your HDD is under warranty.

The last HDD that I've had to RMA was a Seagate. I also have another Seagate that is acting strange (Windows keeps setting it to PIO mode, is drive failing or Windows failing?). Why am I having so many problems with Seagates? Perhaps... it is because almost all my drives are Seagates!!! Unlikely for me to have a dying drive of any other brand because I don't have any (not counting those in the old parts heap).

I ended up ordering two of these drives (the per customer limit). $70 shipped is a good deal considering that's around the cost of a 250GB drive, and cheapest 300/320GB is at $90 shipped elsewhere, so $20 cheaper. 3 year warranty sweetens it.

The $59 one linked in the OP is dead. The $69 one I linked a few posts up is alive. Both are/were free shipping. The more expensive one is actually a hair "better" though IMO that doesn't make up for the $10 difference. Still a good deal though.

Hmm, the one I linked now shows $79.99 for me, with free shipping. This deal has definately cooled down, but isn't totally cold. Cheapest I can find elsewhere for a HDD over 250GB is the Seagate 320GB SATA at Newegg for $90 shipped (deal comes and goes). $10 more for 20GB more and 2 year more warranty, sans free cable/adaptors (assuming retail box has them).
