Even Maxtor's rebate site has changed. Only the 120Gb drive is shown with a rebate now.

Lungster..... I ordered mine seconds after the $30 rebate showed up on Staples.com. It was approx. 10-10:30 P.M. PST. I was actually surprised my order showed 11-17-02 as the order date (obviously they were going by EST).

I also printed out ALL of the rebate forms immediately (before they had a chance to play games with those).

Man, that sucks. Maybe when they filled out the orders, they just went by some stack of printouts (like the invoices they pack in the box). So being nearly first didn't guarantee that your order was filled before others.

These rebates are interesting to say the least. The two $20 (02-50545 and 02-50052) are both from Maxtor and go to the same address. The $30 (02-51266) is from Staples. I'm considering going against conventional wisdom and send the original UPC for the $30 one to make sure I get the highest $ amount back. Then send the UPC copy for one of the Maxtor rebates. The logic is that since they all go to the same processing site, and the form says "staples" on it (I also printed them out ahead of time just in case ), I can try and talk them into it if there's a problem. I figure if I only get the $30 back, it's still a darn good deal.

Anyone see the news item about Staples earnings beating estimates ?

No. I don't mean to be mean, but it's been proven many times that the $30 is Staples and the two $20's are Maxtor. It is very obvious upon completely reading all the rebate forms.

Spoke to Staples rebate center, they stated that for the $30 rebate a copy of the UPC code is all that is required.

Come home from work today and my hard drive and rubberbands were here.
It came in two boxes, the hdd came from Ontario, CA. and the rubberbands were in a big box and came from Sacramento, CA.
I am north of Sacramento.
I am not going to sweat getting or trying to get more than the $30 rebate. $40 for this hdd is a great deal.

Wonder why mine didn't come from Sac too. My package came from Stockton. What's the address for the Sac distrbution center? How many distribution centers do they have in the area anyway?

I got my rubberbands yesterday, but staple's order tracking says its due to arrive tommorow, and the HD Friday. I hope that's when it'll come since I still haven't got it.

An oddity: When I checked the order status page right after receiveing the rubber bands, they were listed as 'processing' and the drive as 'shipped'. Now it says 'shipped' on both. I really hope I don't get another box of rubberbands...

Oh yeah, those that didn't already print/download, the rebates are still up (including one of the two $20 ones) at the rebate center. Click rebate center on the main Staples page, then 'get your rebates', under 'Search by Staples SKU, UPC, Keyword or Rebate Number ' type in 448145, and change 'Search Type:' to SKU/UPC. Click Search. The first and the last ones listed are for the drive.

I just filled out the online/no printer form, and it seems to work.

Sorry if this is a repeat question ... but I don't recall seeing this on previous Staples online rebates.
Both the $20 and $30 rebate form say to include the ORIGINAL receipt (or invoice as the case may be). Has Staples Rebate always required this ? I can't recall the last rebate I filed that required an original receipt !

The differences between the language and wording between all these different versions of the same rebates is almost laughable. Online, printable, PDF....they all say something different it seems.
It's not our problem if they dont specify something on a particular form, I am going to take it letter by letter for that form only. If they don't say ORIGINAL UPC or ORIGINAL Receipt or that COPIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED on that particular form that I use and send in then they can't complain when they get a copy.

The drive has been removed. Must have sold out. I'm glad I got mine at 6AM last Sunday. Even then it had gone to a 1 day backorder.
