(DEAD) Memorex 48x24x48 CD-RW Drive (#495519) $29.90 NO REBATES at Staples B&M

The price on Staples web site is curently $29.90, (usually it $79.98 and is still that price in the stores), they are out of stock on-line for most areas so this is a in-store deal.

What I did was print out the web page showing the $29.90 price and take it to the store and have they match the web price (it's $79.98 in the store).
You can add $10.10 and use the $10 off $40 Staples printable email coupon or add more and use the $15 off $75 printable email coupon. I bought 2 and used the $10 off $40 coupon for a total of $49.80 + taxes


You can call Staples at 1-800-333-3330 (option 3) and ask the CSR to check availability of the drive in your area, it is a once a day overnight update system for staples items, but it's not real time so if the CSR finds a store that has some in stock call the store or ask her to call to make sure that the drive is still in stock.

Sweet. Got the last one at Santa Monica CA. What was wierd is that it was priced 70 bucks. So I had them pricematch agains staples.com and ended up getting the thing for 26.99. What a deal. How can you tell that it's a lite on drive???

Is there any difference between this burner and the Pacific Digital (lite-on) burner? I scored one of the Memorex drives and bought the PD earlier this week and am wondering if one is better than the other.

They are all LiteOns, there's no need to check for serial # or anything like that.

i grabbed 3 and walked out the door paying less then $80 total for all 3 including tax (3 x $29 and used the $15 off $75 coupon)

Found three at my Staples. Left one for the clerk. This is a great deal with no rebates.

I reflashed mine to 52x liteon, firmware 6S07. It extracted a 677 meg CD inage to hard drive in 2:09 and burned that image to CD at 52x in 2:20. I checked the burned CD for errors uring Nero tools and it was perfect. BTW I used the Optimum 48x CDR's from Staples.
I got the info for flashing at the CDFreaks site (Liteon forums), and , also Liteon , and other good site . First I flashed it using the info on the dyzan site to firmware 6S02 (using MTKFLASH), then I reflashed to the latest firmware 6S07 using Liteon's official flash program. Of course you do this at your own risk. I wish I had timed a burn with the 48x firmware to see if the improvment is significant. Maybe one of you can do a before and after for us (48x vs 52x).

Went to my local Staples and the manager there gave me a real hard time when I tried to pick two of them up at this price.

He was like since it was on clearance, he couldn't PM, and I told him that sounds ridiculous and that on the phone Staples told me to get it here.

The manager calls some Staples "help desk" and was complaining to them how someone messed up there and how it was going to hurt his bottom line.

He finally concedes with the people on the phone, saying he "will take care of the customer", and that he wants a "coupon code" for his lost revenue (didn't know this is how they operate).

In the end, he let me have one at the price, and promptly told another associate to take the rest of the drives down
