Well I keep getting 'out of stock' on their website no matter what location I try. I will try a couple of B&M near me tomorrow to see if I can grab one of these. Beat's the heck out of waiting on or chancing rebates.

If I hadn't gone back to get the scanner, I would have had it...doh! :|

All STAPLES at Orange County can't pricematch with their own website as of 12/20/02. They received a fax from HQ not to pricematch this item.

And people wonder why I hate Staples. Sigh. I was all fired up to go to the one in Anaheim, CA. :disgust:

Aight, just bought 4 of these from the Staples in Farmingdale, NY at Airport Plaza. They had 1 left if anybody wants one. Bought one for me, 2 for my friends, and 1 for Cardiac here. The manager at Staples didn't give me any trouble, 100% PM to a total of 32.50/ drive with tax. Darn nice deal.

Just picked one up in NYC (Park and 56th Street). I showed the printout from the web site and the guy talked to the manager, went to the stock room and brought me one out. They do not have them on display. According to the computer they had 4 left.

This deal is even better than I thought. The price on staples.com is still up, and this week, Staples has a spindle of Optimum 48x CDR's for $11 after instant rebate with a $10 mail in rebate. If you can find the $10 off $40 printable coupon, you pay about the same price, but you get the CDR's, and if the $10 rebate comes, you're that much more ahead. Net price is around $20 plus tax.

I just bought two of them. One for myself and one for a friend. I'll be flashing mine to 52x, today, and I'll probably sell my 48x Lite-On (also a re-flashed Memorex) for enough to break even on the deal.

In case people don't know, Staples won't be getting any more of these in. They show as inactive in Staples system.

I placed the order Sunday morning and it went through. However Staples called me today and said that it was OOS and there was no guarantee that my order would be honored. So PM it at Staples B&M if you can cause your online order probably won't go through.

After explaining that mine was canceled from staples.com, the manager said he'd match the price even though they showed out of stock!!! WooHoo!!! If you guys really want this drive, go check out your local BestBuy.
They have the BusLink 48x12x48 drive for $29.99 + tax out the door.
NO Rebates, NO hassle.

But inside is actually a Lite-On 48x24x48 (most of the time), without
the ugly Memorex logo.

It's an actual "Lite-On" drive as the firware says LTR-48246S directly.
So it's also flashable (overclock) to the 52x24x52 speeds too.

Make sure you get the box label "SmartBurn" to get a Lite-On drive.
Boxes with "JustLink + JustSpeed" are AOpen (other) drives

I went to a store to do this week's deal. Then I saw two 48x Memorex hide behind a 52x Memorex. I was able to buy 2 48x Memorex drives and other items and apply $50 coupon! Merry Christmas!

I grabbed one of these and showed them a printout of the webpage with the price and the manager marked it down to that price. No problem, but I have had a problem at one of their stores before when trying to use an online coupon. I finally got them to do it, but it was a hassle. I sure wish they would make these online coupons printable, and it would also be nice if they would honor their websites prices without a problem.

Does the CD tray open and close quietly on this drive? I have a Pacific Digital burner that sounds noisy in this regards

Picked one up today (Peachtree Parkway store in Alpharetta/Norcross); there was one more left after mine. It rang up at $70, but I showed the web price and the cashier said, "Sure, we can do a pricematch." I was hoping that the manager hadn't read the memo about PM this item, but she had to call him 2 or 3 times so by the time he came to the register, he just punched in his code and didn't even look why.

I really didn't need it, but $30 for a fast burner with no stinkin' rebates was too good to pass up. Now I just need to install it along with the 40x from the class action lawsuit and our burners will be reasonably up to current technology again.

I was able to get 2 at the Staples in Hanford, Ca. The first time was no hassle, the second time, they got suspicous (sp?) and checked in on it, they said the website had it on clearance, and that this was the last time they would do this......luckily i had my receipt from the first one i bought.
