Where are you guys getting the rebate information about the Micro Advantage? On the rebate form there is no mention of a Micro Advantage DVD - + drive just the KHpermedia burner NM!!!!! I found it DOH!

I'm assuming that in order to pick a drive, you have to buy this in-store. I placed a phone order and both of the SKU's listed on the OM ad are for the Khypermedia according to the CSR that I spoke with.

It should be either Khypermedia 8X DVD+R or Micro Advantage 8X DVD-/+RW.

I'm pretty sure the sub is the I/O Magic Magic Spin 8X DVD-/+RW (rebadged either BTC or Optorite).

Talk to a different CSR, Khypermedia only sells one DVD burner the 8x, so both SKU can't be for the Khypermedia. The SKU for the Micro Advantage is #20731380.

No, I am pretty sure the Micro Advantage is BTC, the Pacific Digital is the one that is Lite-On or BTC.

That's the one that I ordered. Cool. I tried to place an order just after midnight and the CSR that I spoke with at that time told me that the first sku was a Khypermedia drive. I didn't order at that time because I got a CSR that wasn't letting me use a coupon. I reordered this morning and asked this CSR what the drive was for the second set of numbers and he said that it was a Khypermedia as well. I just ordered it anyway. If the Microadvantage is the second set of numbers, that's what I should get.

Ordered the Micro Advantage over the phone this morning using a catalog that came in the mail yesterday. It shows the Khyper 8x + item no. 2072-6840 and the Micro 8x+/- no. 2073-1380. Took quite some time and help for the CSR to locate and grasp that TWO drives were involved in the weekly flyer.
The expected delivery date is 1/14 which now has me wondering if I'll be jacked around on the rebate
as it states 'must be postmarked within 14 days after purchase date'. If so I'll squeel like hell. Funny that
it's backordered morning of the first day of the sale?

Got mine yesterday (the manager said that since they are a 'Saturday Ad Store' and its a OM MIR that it is valid for saturday purchases, I got him to sign off on it ). How can I tell what kind of drive it is (I got a micro advantage)

It works out to be $179 - $60IR - $50 MIR.

Total is $80 + tax.


Right now I'm not sure if I want to keep the drive because

-it's not a brand I'm familiar with
-it uses easy cd creator which I'm not a huge fan of, I prefer Nero

Upgraded Khypermeia/BenQ DW800A to Dual Format w/ no prob... seems to me like a real fine burner... I saw an excellent review, somewhere, I think CD Freaks, as well... Just something I noticed...it has one of those black inner trays, like the Plextor drives have.

After upgrading the firmware to dual format, I have burned at 8x with the Ritek/Ricoh 4x rated DVD+R media, 2X with the Khypermedia 2x DVD-R, and 4x with Fuji 4x DVD+RW media.

Its been a while since ive visited AT HD forums(you guys sent me to the poor house and so i stoped visiting). Anyways why are you guys always going crazy over these +/-r deals. Are these capable of the bitwriting ability that only the +r had a while back or is it just too good of a deal to pass up? I mean if it doesn't have that bit writing ability i don't feel as it would be worth it.

Also who are the big names for burners? I'm assuming liteon and plextor are still king and queen.

BTW.. Drive brands sure do change. I rememember when Plextor was king and then everyone wanted Liteon drives. These were for cd burners. I also remember when BTC or BenQ was crap. I mean, the bottom of the rung. Has this changed?

Hiya Sal ..yeah ..appears these bottom tiers(BTC/BenQ..hated their CDRom/CDRW lines) appear to be actually making fairly decent drives..the BTC 1008IM had got from Staples(haven't burned 8x yet) last week hasn't made a coaster yet and ..

I do like the CD burning speed of 40x on the BTC..no errors and the drive is fairly quiet as well. Would like to check out a Cyberdrive tho.
