Dead mobo?

Well I just built the computer in my sig this past weekend but today I got some new heatsinks (Thermaltake BigTyphoon & Zalman VF700-CU) and after installing them I couldn?t boot so I toke it apart and realized to my hoarer that the back plat (top one here) on the Typhoon was touching the motherboard so I took it off and now the fans will start and the four red lights will come on but then stop immediately. Did I kill my motherboard?

I dont know exactly if you did or not, not descript enough but from the way you put it it seems like that should have been harmless, what am I missing?

I tried this.
I removed the battery for thirty minutes and now it turns on and gets down to three lights (The fans stay on now) also I don?t here a beep it?s more of a click and when I hit delete nothing happens. However if I put the stick of ram in the second channel it beeps repeatedly about every three seconds. I?m going to leave the battery out over night and see if that helps. Anyone have any ideas?

Your problem is mora then just a cmos battery. You need to disconnect everything from the computer and dismount the mobo from the case. Keep the video card installed, stick of ram, HSF and CPU, monitor, KB & Mouse and then connect the power. Now boot the unit. The system should boot at least to the bios. If it does, then, remount the mobo to the case. Try again. If the problem show back up then you could be shorting the mobo to the case. If the problem goes away, continue to re-install all peripherals one at a time while checking the system each step of the way.

If one of those metal straps shorted out some solder pads on the mobo, or cracked a component or the mobo itself, it's a goner. I'm afraid it doesn't look good, bubut as Jiggz said you need to take it out of the case and disconnect everything except one stick of ram, the video and PSU (not even the power switch - use a screw driver to short the power switch pins to turn it on) and then see if you can at least get BIOS to POST.

It's actually promising if you can get it to beep. You should refer to the manual and find out what that beep code means.
