Read the license agreement. You cannot legally use these products after a year unless you renew the Action Pack subscription. The license is over when the agreement is over.

You can download nearly all hotfixes, security patches, service packs, and critical updates without touching Windows Update and without regard to what products you own. With few exceptions (service packs being one of them) those things you've downloaded will install regardless of the license status of the product ID.

And I would bet that if you let the Action Pack expire, MS will not add your product IDs to the banned list which is rejected by the next service pack. They only do that for corporate product IDs that have escaped.

Doesn't matter though because the expired agreement software is illegal and the license police will find you.:frown:

When you activate one of the product IDs that comes with the Action Pack, the activation is subtracted from that product ID. It has nothing to do with any product IDs your company may have already acquired and be activating.

Besides this, any company doing any kind of volume buying from MS will be using a corporate product ID that doesn't require activation.

AND besides that, it is ***so*** easy to register as a Microsoft Partner, that someone buying for themselves should not bother trying to buy the AP under their company name. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

I was told by the MS rep I called that the product ID's that were issued are linked to the company's shipping address. Multiple orders would be linked together, so one address can never have more than 10 lisences from the pack. After learning this, I was a bit concerned that if people get this for their own personal use, they might get in trouble if they use their company name to sign up under.

I myself enjoy MSDN bliss

No, she was correct. You would receive the disks, but your activation codes would be pooled together. She said that some businesses do this because they need the extra media.

Well I'm just a newbie, I hadn't noticed the prohibition on coupon codes until just now. A whole bunch of senior members, lifers, diamond members didn't seem to care, and coupon codes are posted just about anywhere else. What exactly is the reason for banning coupon codes here?

To avoid legal action. There was a big stink from Staples a long time ago...long story. You will notice that there are NO other coupon codes in this forum, but people to appriciate ones that slip through once in a while You'll get some friendly warnings for posting them first, then the mean mods will get nasty.

hi i got a question about the activation on the products in the pack (specifically w2k3 server)

do these work just like in retail? like if i changed some major hardware would i be able to call in and reactivate it? or do they only allow you to activate once for something like w2k3 server?

THIS DEAL IS STILL ALIVE!!!! I just talked with Microsoft checking on my order status and the CSR informed me that the promotion is on until the end of the month with a new code. He informed me that I hadn't received my pack yet because of overwhelming response to the promotion. In order to give me the new code he did have to take down all of my contact info, so I'm not sure what's up with that. I'm suspecting that we weren't supposed to end up with the first code. Oh well. The new code is:
