sounds shadey.. but I will get an 8800 on saturday so that works for me.

. That wasn't a wise move.

No, it wasn't.

I ordered on the 27th and I received the delay e-mail, too. Oh well; I'm not in a huge rush to receive the card and if something better pops up I can just cancel. This might actually be a blessing in disguise because it increases the chances that the ones we'll receive will have a better cooling fan.

Thanks for the info.. i just sent an email to cancel the 8800GTS (i checked some charts on tomshardware and it confirms that it is about 20% slower in Crysis and I already returned an 8600GT that was too slow so i want all the video card i can get for the money).

Latest Update:

12/12/2007 06:20:53PM Agent (Sup Nivedita Sengupta): "Thank you for staying online. As per the records, the estimated date for the shipment of the order is 12/12/2007. The shipment of the order is delayed because we do not have this item in stock. We do not foresee any further delay in the shipment."
12/12/2007 06:21:03PM RHETT: "ok, 12-12 is today"
12/12/2007 06:21:06PM RHETT: "and it has not shipped"
12/12/2007 06:21:22PM Agent (Sup Nivedita Sengupta): "Yes, and we are expecting the order top be shipped out within few hours."

followed by an exchange where I asked for some reason why I should believe this (given the three separate answers I had received in the past 24 hours)

12/12/2007 06:21:30PM RHETT: "Are we sure?"
12/12/2007 06:21:31PM Agent (Sup Nivedita Sengupta): "I would request you to wait for few more hours."
12/12/2007 06:21:38PM RHETT: "because this morning I was told 1-2 weeks"
12/12/2007 06:21:43PM RHETT: "and then told it might not ever ship"
12/12/2007 06:21:52PM Agent (Sup Nivedita Sengupta): "Rhett, I do understand the importance of getting the order on time."
12/12/2007 06:21:53PM RHETT: "you understand why I may be hesitant to believe this"
12/12/2007 06:22:05PM Agent (Sup Nivedita Sengupta): "However, I will not be able to commit any particular date for the shipment."
12/12/2007 06:22:15PM RHETT: "Ok..."
12/12/2007 06:22:16PM Agent (Sup Nivedita Sengupta): "I certainly do understand your issue."
12/12/2007 06:22:28PM Agent (Sup Nivedita Sengupta): "I would request you to wait for few more hours."
12/12/2007 06:22:38PM Agent (Sup Nivedita Sengupta): "Please be assured that you will receive the order soon."
12/12/2007 06:22:57PM RHETT: "Listen I know this isn't your fault, but I really don't know how you can expect me to believe that when I was given a different answer by another supervisor this morning"
12/12/2007 06:24:04PM Agent (Sup Nivedita Sengupta): "Rhett, if you want, you may cancel this order and place the order for the similar item with sales."
12/12/2007 06:24:35PM Agent (Sup Nivedita Sengupta): "You can call them at 1-800-915-3355 between 7AM to 11 PM CST Monday to Saturday."

Which is, of course, completely ridiculous because there is no other similar item in stock with dell at this time.

Basically I am completely fed up with dell customer service, this is absolutely insane. No one can give a straight answer, and even the supervisors don't seem to know/care what is going on. As many have already mentioned, these people just want to tell you whatever they can to get you off the line as soon as they can.

sheesh ...

Most of you people here have been here long enough to understand how this works.

People post deals they think are good deals and might benefit the readers...

Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't...

There have been countless times that deals were posted here and a few people got in on the deal before it was gone, or out of stock, or some stores stack coupons and some don't or there was a price mistake and all orders were canceled, etc...

Don't go ripping retailers that oversold a product that their vendor is having trouble supplying.

If it's not a price mistake, it will ship at the purchase price. They will ship it when they get it. If you cannot wait, then cancel and buy elsewhere.

You should know better than to contact Dell Customer Service for Pete's sake! You NEVER get anywhere with them if you can even understand them. They really don't care if you received an item or not, they get paid regardless. Their job is to get yo off the phone/chat box whatever. They read from scripts depending on our comments. "I certainly do understand your issue." ans "Please be assured that you will receive the order soon." are examples.

I have bought thousands of dollars at Dell.com, Newegg.com and Buy.com and although I usually get great prices on most items, but occasionally they screw up.

A lot can be said for Customer Service. Newegg is the best company I have ever dealt with regarding customer satisfaction. As a result, they get tons of orders from people as their reputation as a great online retailer is spread by people who know.

Dell Could take a lesson from Newegg and their sales would skyrocket. What sets a company apart from others is Customer Service.

Anyway, Don't contact Dell until your order have been delayed past the time you are willing to wait. Then, call to cancel and find your product elsewhere.

Otherwise, just wait for your $207.00 GT 8800 to arrive...

I received my delayed shipment email today. Estimated now for Jan. 16 2008. I cancelled my order and ordered one from Newegg. I have a feeling when these finally do ship from Dell, they will make a hefty profit because there will probably be a Geforce 9xxx series card out and the MSI everyone is waiting for will retail for $150 and everyone will have overpaid on the card in order to get it at $207. I'm out $40 more than I wanted to be but it sure beats waiting 2 months to play Crysis. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not complaining about the members who posted the deal-- I greatly appreciate it. And I understand the card being delayed. What I find ridiculous is the inability to get a straight answer from anyone at Dell regarding the ship date. Its piss-poor customer service.

Anyhow, best of luck to all of you finding your cards! I'm back in the hunt for one...

they said Jan 8 last I called, this is pretty rediculous game they play. I never get anything from dell other than this. Is this indicative of their customer service practices?

Remember you can always return with dell with no restocking fee if it is unopened when you do finally get them.

Just a heads up!
In the past I have run into deals like this with dell. Where they keep giving excuses and 2 or three months later send the item.
If you want to play a dirty trick on them, then keep your order in the queue. When it does ship, call them up and say you don't want it any longer because of (fill in the blank). They will try their best to get you to take delivery by offering you discounts on the item.

Well, I finally gave up. I ordered the MSI on 11/27 and they showed my estimated ship date as 12/12. They sent me an email yesterday saying they had pushed the ship date out, and now it shows as 1/11/2008. I was somewhat hopeful as they actually put a pending charge on my credit card. I called customer support, but they confirmed that they wouldn't really charge the credit card until they shipped. They had nothing they could substitute right away (in the 8800 GT class) but they did upgrade me to free next day shipping. Whoopee!

I ordered the XFX from newegg for about $38 more. At least it comes with a free game, and I bet newegg gets it to me by the weekend.

I canceled and picked up an evga at Fry's B&M (I couldn't wait any longer). The card had the new 70mm fan, and a bios that ramped fan speed according to temperature. I probably overpaid by $30 or so vs. online but I'm OK with that, and I was willing to pay a bit more for evga vs. say, MSI, gigabyte, asus, or pny.

I don't think Dell is to blame. They receive cards from xxx wholesaler, and dell could not have predicted the demand. They probably thought they could order as many as they wanted from the wholesaler; dell has little/no control over short term supply, and they are just parroting whatever ship date they are told from the supplier. I have no doubt they will receive 3600 cards on the 17th, but I did not want to gamble that I would be one of the lucky 3600. Dell also doesn't charge your CC until they actually ship.

Dell is to blame. They shouldn't be selling "drop shipped" products without a system that can manage the inventory. Most companies that do this well have systems that integrate into the supplier's system, AKA supply chain management. Amazon, though not great, would be an example. Taking blind orders without integration is just plain stupid, and Dell should be ashamed of themselves.

I can't believe those support logs are real, but they probably are.

Picked up the BFG 8800 OC at BB today using 10% off coupon. Much better deal IMO due to better warranty for $6 more. Now I'll call those idiot CSRs at Dell and cancel the MSI.

Good to hear

I ordered one from Frys and it should be here tomorrow. Might end of canceling my dell order, might go SLI.

One more delay from Dell tomorrow (12/17) which is supposed to be my (2nd) ship date will do it for me, or cancel it.

I am in the same boat as you. I think if they cancel again...we probably will not see it ever come. Goodness, why do they do these kinds of things. It reminds me of the idiotic airlines intentionally overbooking flights.

How loud (or quiet) is the new fan? Can you hear it ramp up during games?
