This is faster than any SSD, so I guess it comes down to something like this, or spend the extra money and buy a 960 EVO. I think most people (outside of synthetic benchmarkers) would be very happy with this drive's performance.

The Plextor M8pe's also bench better than this drive if memory serves. Price was they sit between Samsung and these drives.

Some people generically call PCIe drives "SSDs", however I am not one of them. I call them NVMe or PCIe drives. I call standard SATA drives (regardless if they are 2.5" or M.2 size) SSDs

It clears up the confusion when talking about different drives in different formats. No different than Anandtech having different sections for standard SSDs and NVME/PCIe drives in their "best of" articles. I understand the tech behind them, but thanks for trying to correct me in a deal post I made to help others find a good deal.

You should explain to the manufacturers this new naming system then because they clearly didn't get the memo. All of my Plextor M8pe's and my 960 Pro all of which are faster than this all state SSD right on the box. It's a good bargain to be sure, but lets not call it something it's not.

The bolded statement is not necessary and not amusing. You probably thought it was funny as you typed it out, I do not see it in the same light.

I take the time to post a deal here, and you have nothing better to do than come in and crap in it. You've made the point you wanted to make, stop derailing the deal thread. You can call it whatever you want to, as can I. If I want to call a 850 EVO a SSD, and a 960 EVO a NVMe drive, I will. Seriously......

Well whichever, haha. Thank you all. I just know enough to know I don't know much, which is that my older mobo won't be able to take the full advantage out of the very fastest out there. PCI 2.0x4 vs 3.0, I believe, so the very fastest drives will be wasted on me. I would imagine that a nicer value drive will have the same performance as a top-ender for me.

I also have a hard time telling how much of the speed difference in these (let's call them "non-spinning") drives are noticeable to schlubs like me, and how much is as you say will show up in benchmarks only anyhow. How much of a speed upgrade to my old, "slow" SSD. But I'm sure there are many opinions on that too.

Mostly I'm worried about my drive's available space and age, and will likely upgrade to NVMe when the time comes. The price between them and standard SATA SSDs seems to have narrowed.

Moving from a SSD to a NVMe drive will not be as noticeable as it was moving from a HDD to a SSD. That said, now that I have had a NVMe drive in my personal PC for a year now, I do notice the difference when I work on my kid's PCs (which have SSDs). My system is just a little "peppier", when I am working on stuff, opening browsers, installing software, Windows 10 updates, virus scans, etc. I think over the next few years the developers (and Microsoft) will begin to really take advantage of the available speed. But like you said, there isn't much price difference between a budget NVMe drive and a SSD anymore, so to me it only makes sense to take advantage of a good sale and grab the faster drive.

Thanks to this I ended up getting the 1tb drive direct from their discount/outlet/regular store. Hard to beat $318 for a 1tb nvme drive to try out, also, my wife throws shade in your direction.
