I picked up one at Staples B&M using a coupon. I haven't opened it up yet. It doesn't have the v2. Most likely I'll hardwire it anyhow.

It is printed in the text (not on any special stickers or labels) "MR814v2" on the back of the box.

I got mine yesterday at CC with 3 MIR's. Two of the 3 are at New Roc City, so one of the two requiring UPC's will be rejected, but worth a shot. Wil use original UPC w/ $30 rebate. Even if only tow are honored $29 isn't a bad deal. I have used both D-Link and Netgear in the past and I like Netgear the best.

Big THANK YOU to saber800 for bringing this deal to those of us who rarely visit Fat Wallet forums.

Note to roncarter: You had me confused with the PCI Card thing but this thing works with or without ethernet cables...

Just reset the cable modem and it works out of the box without any additional setup.

Is setup required to take advantage of the "true firewall (SPI and NAT)" + I was thinking now I can uninstall ZoneAlarm but what about apps phoning home?

Well it says: Free 8-PC license of Zero-Knowledge Systems
-Prevents applications from sending your personal info over the internet
-Blocks ads and manages your passwords
I'm guessing that's software you have to install. Anyone tried it?

Does it work like ZoneAlarm informing you of apps trying to phone home and giving you an option to let them, remembering preferences...?

P.S. Damn it, Caribbean Housewife looking hyped up Diva is not better looking that at least 20 women you can see at your local mall any time of the day.

P.P.S. I think it's time to go south of the border...
:music: I've got a hunger only tacos can stop. :music:
:music: I know exactly what I'm gonna order: 3 tacos 2 burritos and a soda pop! :music:
:music: (taco, taco) :music:

Hi. How does this work with 2 rebates and one UPC label?
Can someone help me with this? What do I send where?
I picked it up today, and it's a sweet setup. I didn't really need the wireless part, but for the price, why not
Maybe I'll get a wireless card later. Thanks for the post.

Well read the instructions, one rebate clearly says: A copy of the UPC barcode...
If you wish to send in two rebtes that require original UPCs, it's your call where to send original where to send a copy. Usually the manufacturer needs an original and store a copy. Sometimes stores advertize two rebates where they both need original UPCs, then they be talking how "mistakes were made when rebates where printed."

Sometimes they say since they're "mistakes" send the originals here and send copies there.

Sometimes it's 4 months down the road and you don't get your rebate and you be on the phone for a couple of hours only to find out your rebate was rejected and the words some store rep told you 4 moths earlier didn't mean sh!t.

Sometimes they neeed originals because one rebate excludes the other.

That's the rebate game if you want to play.

Just ordered this from staples.com -- seems they're not out of stock anymore. It says shipping in 1 business day on the MR814's product page, but when I added it gave me a message saying that it would take 3 days instead to reach me.

Ran into a few rebate issues, though:

Both the staples.com rebate and the wheresmyrebate.com manufacturer's rebate require UPC. I called staples, and they said that for this order they will accept a copy rather than the original.

The $15 off $75 coupon linked above has been used already; it wouldn't let me use it. After adding a slightly-over-$10 item to the order, it would've only saved a few dollars anyway.

But the big problem -- if you print out the rebate mail-in form from wheresmyrebate.com, it says "Valid Retailer(s): NATIONWIDE". But if you check Netgear's ad for the same rebate - Link - it says that the rebate is only valid "at participating e-tailers", and Staples is not listed among them. It's a TCA rebate, so I'm pretty sure it'll get rejected; maybe if they do I'll file a BBB complaint for false advertising (I do have copies of the form saying "nationwide"), which has gotten these slezy companies to cave in in the past.

I got in on the Amazon bundle rebate ($50) AND the wheresmyrebate.com (TCA) offer 13822 ($50), which said NATIONWIDE also. I sent in the original UPC to Amazon and copies to wheresmyrebate after registering online. I've had 2 rebates from wheresmyrebate.com and they've both come back (after like 10 weeks though) Someone on FW said they did the same thing (send copies to wheresmyrebate) and they received an approval email.

This isn't really false advertising at all, and I wouldn't call the companies sleazy in this case since we're the ones trying to abuse their rebates. I think they all specifically mention the use of original UPC and the fact that this promotion is not to be combined with any others?

I got one of these Netgear MR814 wireless routers and also a Microsoft MN-500 wireless router (supposed to be like Linksys) and will keep only one. Which one is best do ya think?

Webley,

I agree with rasputinj. Go with the Netgear. I have used both in past and I like the Netgear better. It has a lot better interface for set up. Also set up an old Netgear RP114 for a friend and it was plug and go with out any setup (I reset it to default settings first).

I just scored a V1 at my local Staples (they did not have any V2's). Should I open the box or try swapping it for a V2?

Thanks

I previously bought an Netgear MR814v2 Wireless Router at CC about two weeks ago at $79.95. I also sent in the two rebates ($30 & $20). Today I purchased the same router except a version 1 at Staples for $64.95 along with two Cannon ink cartriges to take it over $75 and used $15 off $75+ . I then took the receipt to CC and got a get a $17.50 PM on my purchase. I then went back to Staples and returned the v1 that I had purchased and the clerk refunded the full $64.95. I felt guilty because they did not take the $15 off the refund amount and went back and explained it to the clerk. She said it was okay after I explained it to her twice and the refund was more than the original purchase which included the two ink cartridges. So after all that my cost for the MR814v2 will be less than zero before taxes.

Not sure how long these deals will last but if you price match Staples and purchase at CC it should come out to $14.95 without any MIR's at risk.

Actually after saying all that the original post is a better deal at $5, but if you previously purchased at CC you may want tor try this.

I just bought the router today minutes before the store closed and they accepted the coupon. Now, I hope Staples will take a copy of the UPC code and Netgear the original.

OK I jumped in on this. I just got my new laptop... This is what I have... A Netgear MR814 Wireless Router and a Linksys BEFSR41 4-port router.

I have 3 computers hooked up via the LinkSys. 2 normal connections and a server that has all the port forwarding crap on and it works good. Now, I don't want to replace my linksys, I just want to plug in the NeatGear. Anyone know a quick way to set the netgear so it works with the linksys? I am sure someone here has done this.

Thanks!

From what I've heard you can make the mr814 into a basic access point and plug it into the router. Check the DSL reports site and forum for info doing that. I'll try to find a link.
