You may want to hold a week or two before sending for that $20 rebate. What if they post an actual rebate for the drive, you wouldn't be able to get in on it because you wouldn't have your UPC anymore.

Thanks for the advise... i will do that.. hopefully.. something better might come alone... i just dont want to wait too long and forget... only reason i hate rebates... BTW... has anyone had luck trying this as of recent... thinking of going for a raid array now..

Wouldn't we all be ineligible for the MIR? Because they have dates that the drive must be purchased at.

The invoice that come with the drive... is in the correct time frame... as long as its post marked before Jan 19,2003.. you should be alright..

Oops, I should have phrased that better. I meant to say, if the $30 MIR is released, and everyone saved their original UPC and receipt, wouldn't we all be ineligible for it? Because, we bought the product prior to the rebate.

....or you can read through a few posts that detail exactly what the final order looks like

It should be around $70 after PM and coupon or ~$75-$80 shipped and taxed, if there is a rebate, its just gravy.

By the way, my status now says shipped . Does that mean its at my door step or will it be tomorrow? I'm at work so I don't know if it was delivered or not. Original shipping estimate was for 11/22 (2morrow).

i just got the drive for $79.99 one minute ago...

i went through 1 csr and 1 manager and 1 supervisor. they were all going singing the same ole song. the funny thing is, the higher up the ladder i went the less they knew. well actually, the second lady (1 level above CSR's) was really on the ball. i barely got past her - but she did almost close the deal on me. the lady above the second was actually clueless - kept putting me on hold (i'm sure to see what their policies really were
)

anyway the deal ended up being...

99.99 pm to compusa
+5.00 shipping = 104.00
-30.00 coupon (611xx) = 74.99

...but it wasn't for the (49949) 80gb drive according to her. she said there was some other 80gb the compusa had on sale for 99.00????? i have no idea what she was talking about - does anyone know of another drive at compusa for 99.00 that 80gb??? anyways, she was trying to add the nextday charge but said the drive wouldn't make it here next day so i got the $5 shipping charge. when i think about it my total was $79.99!!!!!!!!! oh sh!t let me call them back cause that doesnt compute! i'll check back.

It depends where the hard drive is shipping from. If it's a location near your house, it should get to your residence rather quickly. I live in Chicago, and mine's being shipped from Ohio. If you call Staples, you can get your tracking # and check the UPS website. Mine said "shipped" on Tuesday, and it should arrive sometime later today.

I tried to get this deal and the rep said that he would price match the drive but he wouldn't do the 30 off 100 part. He stated that the coupon code was only suppose to be used by Staple credit card holders and it's a one shot deal. I was to tired to make an issue of it so I cancelled the deal and went to bed.

Man, why do I even LOOK in this forum?! Been watching this thread for a couple of days...called last night and got the following:

1. 139.99 pm'ed to 99.99, no real problem
2. 18.00 shipping 'cause that's what CompUSA would charge (uh...OK)
3. 30 off 100 coupon worked, again no problem
4. Final total 91.58 including tax
5. The drive won't be here until Monday (uh, again....OK)
6. Read most of the posts, looked at the Staples rebate center, even Maxtor's rebates on-line, and I still don't know if I'm eligible for a rebate?

At least I have the drive for less than CompUSA's price without having to rebate down to it.

Anyone have a clue whether I will be eligible for the rebate?

Thanks.

Call them and tell them they can't charge next day shipping if you don't receive the drive by tomorrow (which you won't b/c Staples is backordered a day or two). Tell them CompUSA has them IN-STOCK and available at both B&M AND online, and if you ordered next day through them, you'd have it by tomorrow. You should then choose standard shipping, which is free

In regards to rebates , this has been covered in this thread multiple times:

There is no rebate through Staples for this drive currently . That's why we are able to price match this drive to CompUSA's price of $99 which is after their instant and MIR's. The value of this deal is simple: You save $20 upfront by pricematching CompUSA to $99, and you can apply a coupon which lowers the price even more. Any future rebate is just bonus. Now, you can risk using Staple.com's $20 rebate on any 80gb 7200rpm drive, but know that Maxtor's website with the same rebate # DOES NOT list the 8MB version as one of the eligible drives. Or you can wait and see if Maxtor issues a rebate for Staples when the drive hits their B&M locations...which I think is pretty likely.

Thanks for the clarification Chiz. I appreciate it.

Called Staples back up and was able to get the shipping dropped to $8.50 since CompUSA is showing "delivery within 48 hours", so new net cost is $82.08. Cool!

dudley, you should try again, you shouldn't have a problem getting the shipping taken off completely, I didn't (took two CSRs though). explain to them that it isn't just a compusa internet price, its also in their stores, and you COULD drive right down to the store and pick it up, no shipping charges.

Also, this drive IS at Staples B&M's (don't know how long its been in stores). I called a staples by my house yesterday and they had two in stock. I was going to cancel my internet order and pick it up, but there was no 30 off 100 printable coupon, so I decided to just wait.

Lastly, my drive came around 45 minutes ago. Says "3 Year Warranty" right on the box. I'm going to put it in later on today, I'm crossing my fingers that its quiet all the time (not just at idle)

Dammit...I finally have time set aside to get on the phone and do this deal and now $30 off $100 no longer works. To make matters work, I actually DID receive a recent mailing with LOTS of Staples coupon codes (they were running a promotion in my metro area [Charlotte] because our first Staples store is opening "soon".) Of course I can't find that circular now even though I KNOW I set it aside somewhere :|:|:|.

uncJigga,

I mentioned this in a post above, but this worked for me. I called b/c they had taken my 30 off 100 out of my order and asked them why. They gave me the whole invalidated by corporate b/c of widespread use on the internet etc. So I haggled with them a while and they wouldn't budge. Anyways, I did have a 1 time use 12 digit code from one of their e-mailers for $30 off $150, and convinced them to apply it to my order pre-PM. I had also ordered 100 slim cd cases for $9.99 bringing my total to $150 before PM. Turns out, when I checked my order status, it was the same 5 digit code in there they said they would not accept. So the code itself is still good, they are just not accepting it on the front-end from the consumer unless you are ordering through a channel qualified to use that code on the front-end. Try searching/posting in the FS/FT forum for the $30 off $150 coupon, they are usually there for free or for heat.

I have never been a big Maxtor fan (the one Maxtor HD I had was loud as hell when accessing). However, with a deal like this, its too hard to pass on.

So for those of you that got this drive and had a chance to use it, what are you thoughts? For ~$80, I don't think there would be anything to gripe about...

If you had asked me two weeks ago, I would have agreed with you. My d740x was loud when accesing, and it ticked me off. But I got a good deal from office depot 2 weeks ago for a 30 gig maxtor (backup drive), I put it in.....and its silent. All the time. I haven't put this one in yet (came this morning), but I'm hoping its the same.

Considering that this drive has liquid bearings, I think we can assume that it will be, to quote Elmer Fudd, "VEWWY VEWWY QUIET!!!"

But the liquid bearing only affect its noise at idle. When reading/writing, it doesn't help

He says Staples told him there would be a $30MIR on there Sight Tonight . There for they are trying to stop PM CUSA's Price of $99.99.
He also says it will ONLY be Valid from 11/21----11/27 I say Staples is full of *hit if that were a statement and here's WHY
I have never seen a Company place a Rebate good through (1) half of a Buisness week through the next , that would not be fair to anyone who would have Perchased a retail drive at full $139.99 price from them not knowing about this deal!!!! If I were a customer that went on and Bought a NEW Peace of Technoligy on the first of its realese and then there was a rebate 5,6 Days later, Excluding me I would be Irate*!*
So I would say that would be un fair to assume every one got a PM at this piont .......Any Thoughts??
