They will probably perform very similarly. I would look at price, reputation, warranty, support and things of that nature in making a decision. My last 3 HDD's have been Maxtor and I've been very impressed with them after some Deathstar and WD issues. So I'm sticking to my guys

Yes,many of us have recived our Drives and should be playing with them very soon ,and will be reporting findings like Noise ect.
I would say these will smoke SE if you have a ATA133 controller or current on board motherboard controller that many of the very NEW are incorparating .These drives are surely heading in the Future. As far as the SE are conserned I have (2) 80GB SE but have not used them yet,I got them through the CUSA PM through CC $73.99 out the door. I here they are quiet for a few weeks then become LOUD .Don't no though? Considering they both have 8MB cache the ATA133 should prevail> I shall be running my (2) Ultra Drives in a RAID 0 array at ATA133 , this shall be smokin. I dont think any thing will touch it Other than my Dream array of **************

On some orders, the Staples CS agent has matched the price of CompUSA @ $99.99, plus took the extra 10% discount off bringing the drive price down to $90 and change. The two drives I ordered were of this nature. Plus, they didn't charge me anything for overnight shipping like some people are getting slammed with. At that point, I didn't feel like even trying to have them deduct a coupon amount, because I had saved enough already. Plus, it's when people get too greedy that things start to fall apart - I didn't want to get too greedy.

My online order states $79.86 as the total but that "not an invoice" sheet says $81.66!

It'll be interesting to see what they actually charge me

Oh, and when I called today to voice my outrage about the DMCA thing that is going on - I tried(before i ranted about the DMCA) to get the $8.50 "shipping" fee taken off and they claimed that it could not and would not be done, infact both people i spoke to claimed that "corporate" has put their foot down and WILL NOT be pricematching this drive!

- any one been succesfull in the last 3 hours?

Mine got installed and XP Pro loaded last night. Works fine...can't say about the noise...mine sits in a large Antec Case with 7 80mm low speed fans (and 2 small ones) inside a Desk cabinet. Very, very quiet!

I still have many drivers and programs to load tonight...and over the next few days. I hate redoing everything to get back to where I was! My 1 year old Maxtor 40Gb is fine..sit's right on top in my removable HD Tray. It's to become my backup storage unit.....

I have never seen a Company place a Rebate good through (1) half of a Buisness week through the next , that would not be fair to anyone who would have Perchased a retail drive at full $139.99 price from them not knowing about this deal!!!! If I were a customer that went on and Bought a NEW Peace of Technoligy on the first of its realese and then there was a rebate 5,6 Days later, Excluding me I would be Irate*!*

True, Staples rebates are usually for a longer time period...unless they are trying to take it off for Black Friday so it cannot be combined with other offers. Perhaps Brandon was talkin out his @ss, or perhaps there is no rebate? I will be checking the site frequently tonite...

On my "This is not an Invoice" form, my amount is correct. However, I paid slightly more than you did anyway. I wouldn't waste the time trying to chase down $3.00. One one of my calls, I tried to get a price adjustment and then they were going to hit me with the delivery charge. The lady then put me on hold to talk to her supervisor and look at the CompUSA site - when she returned, the price had jumped another $17.00. If you're happy with the price you paid, don't mess the deal up. Sure, most of the time, you will get the discount you are looking for. Then again, there are those times where they'll spot something they didn't see the first time and pull the old 1-2 punch on you.

***i just found out that the difference between the 'real' total price vs. 'this is not an invoice' price is caused by tax calculation.
the 'this is not an invoice' tax is calculated before deducting the $30 coupon and therefore it is wrong! that's why they called it NOT AN INVOICE

my invoice says (this is not an invoice paper thingy) total is $107.37 but they charged my card $105.42.

also, CSR told me they would refund $34.xx since no rebate for staples but they only refunded $31.xx dollars.

they are so stupid.

My first drive came today and the MFG date is 27october2002 :nice. There is some confusion on the this is not an invoice , My invoice has $2 more dollars on the Tax than before? I have also called Staples yesterday and on the "I have a quesions on an existing Order" menu option had said "I didn't get the full 110% PM reflection on my order" , gave her the order # , she looked up and said Yes your right if the PM was $99.99 of the competetor price and did the Proper adjustment . I was given a +$10.70 credit twards my card .. I did this on all my orders with the same Lady, By simply giveing her the diffrent Order #'s ...Hope this helps with any one who got in on this deal and only got the 100% PM ... This has turned out to have been even better than Expected....

My other orders say shipped and should be here Tommoro 11/22 along with my Lian Li weekend special, perfect project for the weekend! As far as a final Total charged to my Card I have nothing Posted Yet. I have drive in hand and have not even Paid yet so Cheers to Staples for a fine job of shipping....! They even beat there processing department...
