I orderd mine on Oct 2nd and had an esimated shipdate of Oct 7th. My order status page still says Est. ship date of Oct 7th. Needless to say it hasn't shipped yet. My local CompUSA has them in stock and I'm seriously considering picking one up and then when the one from dell comes putting it up on ebay.

I'd do that too...but you run the risk that Dell is EVER going to ship these freaking drives.

Thats true, but I need a DVD burner anyhow and if I hadn't gotten in on the dell deal I would have already gone to CompUSA and bought one.

Has anyone recieved their drive? I ordered 2. They improperly canceled one. They sent me an email stating that I had to call by the 10/14 to continue the order. They cancelled my order on 10/11. I called to get an explaination was transfered 9 times before I finally got it resolved. Dell use to have competint customer reps but now they are the worst. They had to reorder the drive. Now the 2nd drive does not ship till 12/24. On top of that they will charge me $350 and credit me $100 within 30 days of shipment. WOW.

I just had my order cancelled also. This was after calling a week ago,and tuesday,to tell them NOT to cancel. They were real nice, gave no explanation, and resubmitted the order.I told the lady,it had better not be set for a december delivery date!I was promised it would be one of the first deliveries. The ETA is DEC 25.2002.As far as this order,
forget it.As for any future Dell purchases,Gateway just aquired a fair sized account.Between my private purchases, and my clients whom I have full purchasing power,I ordered $60,000+ so far this year! For the last 6 weeks,I have had trouble with every order from Dell.Customer service took care of the problems, but it cost me several hours of phone tag,to fix things that should not have happened in the first place!

This is what I just got from Dell:

We are writing to update you on the status of your order # 12345XXXX.
Unfortunately, we are experiencing unexpected delays. Due to these delays,
we have been forced to move the estimated ship date on your order back to
Friday, November 29, 2002. We apologize for any inconvenience this may
cause. If you do not want to wait, you may cancel your order by contacting
your sales representative at 1-800-289-3355 ext 61843. Otherwise, we
appreciate your patience, and we will continue working hard to ship your
order as soon as possible.

Thank you,
Dell Order Notifications

Talk about a crock! We all know we can go buy these at our local BB's, CC's, or Compusa's. Dell customer service at work again. Mine was ordered on 10/3, and was due to ship 10/8. I ordered a 2nd unit on 10/8, but I'm still waiting for the "delay" e-mail on that one. How come Dell can't seem to get these drives?

Yes, I am one of the lucky ones who already received my 120gb drive, but I would much rather get the DVD burner.

I'm am tempted to begin cancelling orders, but I think I will try to find a deal elsewhere firsrt, and then cancel my Dell orders.

Well I got tired of waiting... went down to Circuit City with my Dell order confirmation in hand and talked to the manager. He agreed to pricematch to $309.98 since Dell's price was $308 at the time of my order. He wouldn't do the discounts but at least I saved $40.

I'll still keep the Dell on order and sell it when (err.. IF) it ever arrives

I received SIX of those emails this week for one order. Replied to all six of them, saying "don't cancel". Got replies to all six confirming that they wouldn't cancel. Just checked my status....

"Cancelled" :|

Didn't they do the same thing with the logitech z560s last year. If I remember correctly I got in late on the 110.00 shipped deal (I had ordered on 11/28/01 and AT had all kinds of posts to the thread so I new a Sh!t load of people jumped on the deal). I got an email saying they wouldn't ship till March. I figured I wasn't in a hurry so no biggie. On the December 7, 2001 they ended up billing my credit card and shipped my speakers that same day.

As for the "They Cancelled even though I emailed them NOT too" ..... They did that to me with the Canon S200 preorder deal as well. I called them the following day told them the story politely and a CSR reinstated my order at the price I originally ordered it at including the coupon ($289.00).

I guess I had that attitude where you think ..."Yeah ... just take your time because I'm still paying for a bunch of other deals I got in on and I don't need another 260.00 charge". I have a feeling they're gona ship sooner than ya think. When you are checking 3 - 4 times every day, like I used to do with past orders .... that's when you really get the feeling that "THIS SUCKS"

I'm in the same boat as alf. But not many of us can just play the waiting game. I also got in on the z560 deal AND the Canon S200. I am now thoroughly prepared for any HUGE deal that happens at Dell.com. You wanna good deal and save $50 - $100....? Well, you better pitch a tent and get your lawn chair out... cus you'll be in for the long haul with the really good dell.com deals.

Fortunately... None of these 3 deals have been on items that I NEEDED in 2 or 3 days. I've had over 10 personal orders through dell.com and only these really killer deals have been any problem. The rest all went smoothly.

Would I buy from Dell.com again... even if I don't get my DVD-R/+R drive? HECK YA I WOULD!

One more note, never call Dell's customer support thinking you'll be done in 10 minutes. Allot a good 30 - 40 minutes for the call. It will take some time, but I have ALWAYS been dealt with in a professional manner once it was my turn. Best to make these calls while at work if you can put them on speaker phone so you can just keep getting your work done (or continue surfing Anandtech's forums!).

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I just called to get my order re-instated, and was told it was "cancelled because the ship date is so far out" (12/29). So I asked why are they still taking orders for it. His response "all those orders will be cancelled". So then I asked, "so there is no way to get my order reinstated?".

"No". :|

I fulfilled the "customer" part of "customer service". Dell seems to have a slight problem living up to their "service" part

Thats kinda what went on with the s200 deal for me. They ended up shipping sooner .... even though the price went up I asked if I could still purchase it with the offer previously given me at the time of my interest in the product (and it had all ready been cancelled). It did take a few minutes to check with a supervisor but they did approve and I got my camera ... didn't have to do any arguing on my part.

The only order that they didn't help me with was when I wanted to see if they would price match a Canon A40 I bought from them for 244.00 with coupon codes. They lowered the price two weeks later and wouldn't reimburse me the difference. Some got lucky and got the bucks back.

Good luck

@HeHateMe ok that's a bunch of crap....dell is full of it. I'm on the phone right now (on hold)...gonna tell them to yank it off there website and stop selling these. Kinda like how Toyrus.com got fined 50 million dollars by the FTC for not delivering items within a reasonable amount of time. Mine still says ordered Oct 3rd....expected delivery Oct 8th.
The chick was apologetic but not very helpful...someone needs to talk to a manager/supervisor. Basically they don't know why..nor did she agree to yank it from the site. Dell go to hell.

Just got off the phone with a Dell rep., Jason, and got some good news. He said Dell expects to receive a "big bunch" of SONY DRU500A drives tommorrow, Oct. 19, 2002. I ordered mine on 10/15, and my drive should be shipped out by next week, 10/21/2002 according to him. My confirmed order had expected shipment on 12/20/02. I'll call again on Monday.

Picked one up at CC tonight. They took the $75 coupon from Best Buy at 110% so I got it for $267 + tax. Not bad and now I have something to play around with over the weekend. Now I can watch my dv home movies without degrading them to vcd quality. Sure hope they look better. Now to find some cheap media.

What $75 coupon are you referring to?
