According to UPS, my drive is has made it from Dallas, TX to Ohio. I am in MI, so it is getting close.

They have me scheduled for Monday delivery. I hope I am here to sign for it, or else I'll be waiting an extra day to pick it up, instead of "hit or miss" delivery.

I'll check it out when I get back. Gotta get some media!

Btw, it looks like more of these might be shipping. The other one I had ordered now says that is has shipped also, and I should receive it by Thursday. That will make my cousin happy, as that drive is for him.

Ordered on 10/1. Probably one of the earliest to order. Just called Dell again and they say its still not shipped.

Dell pushed back my order (just like most people's) to November 29th. I felt this was pretty crappy and when I called them the CSR told me that you can only buy the drives from Dell or from Sony directly, which is a crock since they had them at the Circuit City right next door to my apartment complex. The manager I talked to was really nice, and I explained the situation to him, including what the original price was ($308.95) and the rebates and discounts involved that brought it down to $253.06. If you've got a Circuit City nearby you might want to go in and explain your situation, maybe you'll get lucky. I'm honestly amazed at how cool managers can be when they really want to.

Could you possibly provide a scan of your receipt rather than the shot of it with your hand? They might be more willing to accept it if it were a scan.

just got mine from ups also. to answer an earlier question this is the full retail box and not an oem. it has one dvd+rw disc, an ide cable, and 4 screws. it also comes with recordnow, mydvd, showbiz, simple backup, powerdvd xp, and musicmatch jb. i assume all the software is the standard versions without all the features, but i cant install it till im off work in a few hours so im not sure. hope the rest of them ship soon for all you guys. now i need to sell my a03...

Well, I also ordered on Oct. 1 and according to the good folks at Dell mine shipped at around 4:00PM today. So, perhaps those of us who ordered around that time and stuck it out and didn't cancel our orders will be rewarded after all.

I take all credit! I posted a message on the Dell forums asking for an explanation of the priority that orders werer being fulfilled, and also emailed Customer Disservice with a detailed example of how DUKAT1 and JIMMYJAM (I didn't name them, just referenced their order# and order dates) had their's shipped before mine (lower order#, earlier date).

LOL - just joking: I guess this is a perfect example of how the squeeky wheel gets the oil it was destined to get, regardless of when/where it squeeks! Doh! Hopefully they got a couple of thousand in stock!

So where DO we get reasonably priced media for this baby?

kayaksurfer -- I'm checking out potential media deals as well; will post when I get some information. The main worry I have is the obvious one: Bulk media is far cheaper, but then if your media doesn't work well with your burner, you've got that much additional "useless" media.

Anyone have any links to sites that have tried the burner with different brands of media?

Well if Dell ships mine den maybe you can have mine.. Not sure if I still want it.. I was thinking I don't really need this right now & should wait till they get faster and cheaper.. so I called & email Dell to cancel it.. Well that was 1 or 2 wks ago... and status still shows "Delayed". So I dunno, should I keep it if I get it??

I got mine today too. Full retail box. As I stated in this thread a while back I was able to get Circuit City to sell it to me for $310 plus tax.. total came to about $330 with tax. If anyone wants one I'll sell this one for what I paid for the Circuit City one plus shipping. Otherwise I'm going to return it to Circuit City.
