No Memorex. Ritek? Hmmm.

I've had fantastic luck with the Ritek 1x media. TDK 2x is even better but cost 2x. Princo's are pretty much garbage and I won't buy another one. Some batches work but it's not worth the aggrevation... right now I have 10 of the 2X Princos that don't even register as media when I put them in the Sony. The Ritek DVD+RW I bought works just as good as the Sony +RW that came with the drive. The Ritek's are my choice... worked in PS2, Xbox, and PC.

jeepers94 - I was just reporting what I saw on the Fry's shelf. The tag was clearly for the new burner...only had one on the shelf. $330 (Fry's sale price)-$50 (mfg rebate) = $280...plus or minus a few pennies. Don't know if Sony has the rebate on their site or not. I'm not too interested since I just got a $150 Cendyne DVD-R/RW burner.

Spinn,that is exactly what one other person stated a couple of weeks ago.He later found the thing was posted in the wrong place,and WAS for the 120 not the 500.I can't remember if his post was about Frys or Best Buy.I just wanted to make sure,whoever buys one checks the rebate form.

i just called fry's in manhattan beach, ca and the lady told me there is a $20 rebate available on the dru500a. she said if she can find a copy she'll fax it over. if she sends it i'll read it over and see what the details are.

The only DRU500A rebate that Sony has offered to date is promotion number 02-50561. This Sony $50 MIR is valid for DRU500A purchases between 11/15/2002 - 1/31/2003 and is only valid for purchases through an authorized Sony retailer. There was some confusion last month about Best Buy offer a $50 MIR on this drive, but it turned out that the BB rebate form was a misprint and their offer was actually promotion number 02-5056 that started yesterday with the wrong dates on their form. Here is a link to the Sony $50 Offer 02-028509. The dates on the BB Sony DRU500A offer is a misprint but the offer itself is legit for purchases between 11/15/2002 - 1/31/2003.

Actually, Best Buy has it for: $349.00 - 10% coupon (saw it in last weeks Sports Illustrated) $34.90 - $50.00 rebate = $264.10!!! Now if I could only find a BB in Central Ohio with one in stock, that's another story!

As stated before, the $50 MIR is valid for all Sony authorized resellers. If you purchase at BB, the rebate form that is printing at the registers at B&Ms has the wrong promotional dates listed on the form. However, the rebate is still valid and the error on the form is BB specific.

do you have a link to the list of Sony authorized resellers?, I checked their website and couldn't find one.
Also tried finding the promo you mentioned (# 02-50561) and couldn't find that either.

Basically, all my local Best Buy stores are out of stock so I'm trying to find out which other stores the Sony rebate you mentioned is valid at (also trying to find the rebate itself).

In true Best Buy fashion they've advertised and promoted a product that they have never even had in stock once. Circuit City does have them though.
