As stated before, the $50 MIR is valid for all Sony authorized resellers. If you purchase at BB, the rebate form that is printing at the registers at B&Ms has the wrong promotional dates listed on the form. However, the rebate is still valid and the error on the form is BB specific.

According to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) which I'm sure Dell follows, Dell can't record revenue until either money has exchanged hands or Dell has shipped you the product.

All corporations cook their books. We do too. My boss (IT manager) just found awhile back of huge accouting inaccuracies. This was done on purpose to increase bonuses and make things "look pretty". Well no one cares cuz the CPA is long gone and he doesn't have to answer to anything. The higher you are up in the corporate ladder, the easier it is to get away with things and more tempting it is since the stakes are NOT higher. Hell we even had a number of years before this a guy who embezzled in excess of $100,000. Did it ever make the local newspaper. Heck no, bad pr for the corporation. So instead of throwing him in jail they just make him pay it back. I think he only has about $40,000 left to pay back.

Dell is no different....this is the same hell as with Gateway Ti4400 I got. Took me 2 1/2 months to get it but at least I got it. Dell seems no better than Gateway in my book.

This new firmware will allow your Dual RW drive to record at 4X on 4X compatible DVD+R media as well as improve the DVD-ROM reading performance with DVD recordable/rewritable media.

I like this, I like this alot. I wondered when they doubled the -R why the +R had not gone this high...!!!

ok well after all the hell I've been through I scored an awesome deal. Too make a long long story short. I'll be getting the external sony dvd burner firewire/usb2.0 for $271.36 from Dell after talking with a cust service rep. That's only $15 more than my original $256.66 internal sony dvd burner. Whose to say when I'll get it. Probably January and only if I'm extremely lucky before Christmas. It's $429.99 at bestbuy so I figure I'm saving tax $463.31 minus $271.36 = $191.95 savings so I'll just wait patiently.

Orginal order 10/3 $256.66....I call around 11/19 or so and she can't do nothing only upgrade
to free next day shipping. Free my butt she resubmitted the order at $359.99 ooooops. So I call back
and a freakin hour later they put a note on my account for $103 credit (I call when I get it then they credit my cc).
So I have 5 orders as of yesterday. I call and say I only want one...reason I ordered five is just trying to get one of them.
So I ordered one for $374 external recently...so I said can I still apply my $103 credit to the $374 one? Yes...so there ya go
$374 - $103 = $271.

I guess it was a bit of luck and kicking @ss as well I called them and bitched so much that I think they got tired and decided to ship my burner at ANY cost Of course I am not the only one to bitch so much to the CSR's so I am kinda suprised how my drive shipped and other's did not. I think you also better start calling them up every 1 hour or something and hopefully you should get lucky as well.

P.S. - you owe me 5 bucks for my correct prediction in the dell forums

wow, so much hassle... i decided against the drive... cancelled the order and just spent $100+ less for a 2x pioneer I also realized I couldn't exactly afford it either w/ a major upgrade in the works.

good luck w/ the guide, and if you can come up w/ something to *easily* create chapter menu's... i'll pay you $10

The "so-called" major upgrade consists of the firmware upgrade to E,and a new box with the 4x DVD+R listed.This comes STRAIGHT from Sony! They want to take advantage of the new feature,and they are pulling the stock to repackage so as not to confuse people! In other words,there is no major upgrade!

Don't give me $10...give $10 to dvd2svcd the programmer to encourage him to implement a simple wizard for DVD to DVD-R with his program. I myself would be doing extensive tests myself to see what features, ui suggestions, etc. lest I'm just a handicaped golfer in a upstream-flowing river round back.

I managed to score an awesome deal from BestBuy. I called them this morning and they said they had the Internal drive in stock, and I asked them to put it aside for me. When I got there, I was all set to purchase the drive when I realized that it was the EXTERNAL drive. And sure enough it rang up at $429.99 ... When I told the guy that it shouldn't be $429.99 because it was the Internal drive according to the person on the phone ... He looked at it and said something to the effect of, "You're right, the person on the phone must have made a mistake. Let me go see what I can do." He walks away for about 5 minutes and comes back, saying that he can meet me halfway on the price difference of the Internal versus the External.. *AND* I can still use my 10% off coupon ... So after all is said and done, $429.99 - 10% off coupon (specifically done in this order by the salesman to save me more money) - $40 = $346.99 - possible $50 MIR = $296.99 for the External version!!! Not too bad in my opinion, especially if I get the rebate. Couldn't believe BestBuy was willing to work with me, this is the first time that they've really gone out on a limb to help me, and I must say I will be going back to that store (which is further away than the closest store) in the future, because they were so nice... (In the past they also let me play with their HDTVs and hook up DVD players to various HDTVs to make a decision).
