Give it away or sell it.I was ready to jump on this but saw the Thermaltake BlacX was USB only. I don't need a doorstop.
Is this a better deal, do you think, than the Hitachi Deskstar 1TB 7,200RPM SATA Hard Drive for $69.99?
I really want to know why.
The Hitachi drive seems to be better at power management based on some of the reviews I've seen. Based on speed, the F3 is way better. I've got both drives in my system, and the F3 blows the Hitachi away.
For data storage only, either drive is great. For a boot drive, go with the F3.
I'd go with the F3 anyway. Just sell the BlacX if you don't want it and the net cost comes out lower than the Hitachi.
7K1000, 7K1000.B or 7K1000.c? I have both hitachi 7k1000.b and 7k1000.c drives, and also spinponts f3 500gb and 1tb. The deskstar 7k1000.c is neck and neck with the hd103sj (both achieve >140 MB/s in sustained transfers) and the 7K1000.b has no trouble reaching 110 MB/s
The 7K1000.c runs cooler than the F3 and is quieter. The F3 is cheaper if you sell the dock, which I will You don't want to strap this fast of a drive in a usb 2.0 dock.... like bringing a corvette zr1 to cruise the 25 mph downtown.....
Alex
edit: the bay and CL will be flooded with these docks
Nice! I should be getting mine delivered some time today.already sold the BlacX for $28 on CL. 1 TB drive for $47...super hot deal!!
UpdatedThis is dead. You may want to update the thread letting people know.
The price was originally in the thread title. I edited it out after the deal was dead because the title was too long to have both the price and the "DEAD".Please put a price in your OP next time. Now that the link is dead theres no price here for reference. I had to wade through the thread to find someone mention what the price was.
Anyone actually using the BlacX dock? What transfer rates are you getting?
I'm getting <20MB/s read speeds when my older USB 2.0 enclosure does 30MB/s+ easy.
Thanks. Will try on a different computer to see if it improves.I am using two of the 6 that I got. Both of them are doing 29-31 both read and write. So far have used a WD 40, WD 80, WD 640 and one of the F3 1TBs in them and have maxed both read and write using them all.
Thanks. Will try on a different computer to see if it improves.
Does your BlacX's AC adapter make a high-pitched whining noise when it's plugged into the wall and the dock is off? It goes away once the dock is turned on, but returns when the dock is turned off. And when I unplug the AC adapter, the sound "winds down." Strange.
