Since we got 2 disks, one 64 and one 32, both with different keys, can I install the 64 on two different machines and use the key for the 32 on the other 64?

Try it and let us know. I expect these keys will work ok for a pair of 64 bit installs.

AFAIK retail Vista keys work with 32 and 64 bit versions. I've read that an OEM key does not work with both versions, but have not tested this myself. Not sure what sort of keys they have given out.

Been answered by schneiderguy back on 4/30. He emailed MS about using both keys on different computer and here is hte reply he posted:

Absolutely, xxxxx, you can install both on different PCs. Each one has a license key on the back.

THANK YOU

I wonder how many people are claiming that they did not receive it...

Kinda sucks for people who really did not receive it.

I already got more than I'd expected (both 32 and 64-bit versions of Vista Ultimate with separate keys). I'd have to be on greedy fool to lie for more!

BTW, so far I am less than impressed with Vista compared to my trusty XP Pro. I'm trying to tweak it out, speed it up. Hope it works!

I hear ya! After tweaking the daylights out of Vista 64 and disabling all the crap it seems fairly quick and so far stable. Im going to give it some time and see if it grows on me. If I had paid for Vista I would have been extremely disappointed though.

What tweaks are you guys using? My vista install seems to run on a pig on the system in my sig. Stupid things will bog down like bringing up My Computer can take it 10 seconds.

There's something wrong if My Computer takes 10 seconds. My 1.73 GHz Pentium M laptop does it in less than 1. Vista will seem slower for the first few days, but that's because it's learning your usage patterns - once it figures out what you launch most often (and when you usually do it) it feels a lot faster.

Well I have been running Vista Business for 6 months or so which is what im basing everything on. I think that the slowness started when I was having issues upgrading to Ultimate and I still need to reinstall SP1.

A good place to start is www.blackviper.com . You can try his windows vista services configurations according to how you use your machine. Also check out his Vista super tweaks. You can find plenty more by googling vista tweaks. Which version are you running 32 or 64 bit?

No, I emailed MS this exact question and they told me one key was good for 32 and one was good for 64. They also said that the only difference between these keys and retail is these say "not for resale". If that is really the case and the keys are full retail keys then they should work with either version.

I may try this later but for the moment I don't need to do any new OS installs.

I tested it myself. Finally got the time. I installed with the 64 disk and used the 32 key.
I have not validated with MS yet but the install took the key with no problems.

How will they be "out of the product"? the item will just be removed from being listed. And if MO is used as payment how can they get their greedy hands on that?

well typically if the item is sold via paypal (which it most likely will be) then the seller would ship out right away. ebay/paypal still can take that money right out of your account for violating their policy. And of course chances are the buyer would not even bother to ship the discs back.

Well, I've been talking to a few who've actually sold these NFR discs on ebay, instead of speculating aobut something one knows nothing about. What has happened in each and every case the discs have sold is this.......outside of ebay closing the auction, typically well after the item sold and was paid for......is NOTHING.

Oen gent sold his NFR copy of Office 2007 from this about 2 weeks ago......and exactly this happened: NO strike, NO ban from ebay, NO taking money out of his Paypal account.....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENED.

This experience has been replicated more than a dozen times from my conversations with about as many sellers of this stuff, both Office 2007 and Vista. The auctions get taken down for the MS copyright infringement, but that's all that's happened.......of course, in each case, the item was sold within a couple of hours after being initially posted with a buy-it-now....

So, in essence, TheDrake is kinda wrong in his assertion that anything happens at all......if you can actually document one case where what you assert has happened, Drake, I'm all ears.......but betcha can't.

this was exactly my experience. item sold, got the money, shipped it out. Ebay pulled the auction, but it was already over. Now the page no longer exists and we can't leave feedback for each other, but that's really it.

Be prepared for the black helicopters and jackbooted MS spooks packing H&K mp5's to pay you a friendly visit in the middle of night.

People, keep this on topic and not how you got away with selling an NFR disk on eBay. If it continues, it's locked.

For inquiring minds. I had a 32bit installation that needed activation. I used the "64bit key" from the back of the cd sleeve of the disk labled 64bit Vista. It activated just fine. No muss, no fuss. Downloaded/installed updates. No complaints.
