If you can can find the 74 gig, it's $101 now. After 12% coupon, I got mine $97 OTD.

Maybe I will learn to type someday. Thanks.....the Green Bay store still had several 74gig drives (they had restocked mid-week).....if I don't upgrade to the 150 I can at least pm and get a few bucks back.

Thanks OP. Just picked up the only one in town from one of the four Las Vegas stores. Asked clerk if she had any 10% off coupons. She said, " no but I have an $8 gift card that someone didn't use." Price w/o tax was $162. One happy camper!

Just found out I got the last one from the Carbondale Illinois BB store, went in and picked it up minutes before they closed.

apologies to anyone in S. Illinois that was looking for one there, but they are supposed to get more in later in the week. It's a new item for them this week, first time they have ever stocked them.

Pretty hot deal, but OOS online and at nearby stores. Ahh well, being OOS saved me some money.

Already bought one of these when it was 199, there was only one left in my area after I got it. I'm gonna see if I can get it price-matched now, since it dropped in price. w00t.

Soooo tempting. I hope this is the tip of a tsunami of lower Raptor prices.

What score does this drive achieve in the Vista Windows Experience Index?

I have a 3 yr old 74GB Raptor that scores a 5.7 but I need a drive with larger space.

Not sure what the safest acceptable temp is, but cooler temps over time are probably better for extending the life of the drive. Temps can vary a great deal on your case and how many drives you have near it, but in my old case in the same HDD cage as 2x Maxtor Diamondmax 9+ 120s, it was a toasty 51C measured by Speedfan. Swapped out to an Antec Nine Hundred a few days ago and temps dropped to their current 28-30C.

Is that a test somewhere on MS's site? Not sure exactly what it does but WinXP boots up 3-4x faster than my old rig's RAID 0 Array, although its not all because of the drive (I upgraded my entire platform).

Also, for those looking to get these but they're OOS, ask one of the employee's when they get restock during the week. Its either Tues or Thurs I think, but they should get at least 1 more shipment of these midweek. Also look for BB locations off the beaten path, I'm 99% sure there's a BB near me that has a few of these because no one seems to know about it. I picked up 2 WD 80GB Passports last week there (still 3 left on the shelf) and they were OOS at the other 3 other stores I checked.

Someone has already asked a similiar question, but will ask anyway since there was no response. Is the performance increase worth the lower capacity in this price range? Bottom line, does anyone notice a real world difference compared to other 16MB cache drives?

Oh this is a killer deal. I'm doing a rebuild soon and I snagged the 500gb maxtor from newegg 139.99 w/free ship and I had my mouse over this drive and I'm so glad I waited.

Newegg had it for 199 after a 30MIR. This is a HUGE deal, especially since I've had this 20 dollar gift card rotting in my wallet since Christmas!

Thanks OP! Available for in store pickup here hehe.

Good question.......

see the wd 160gb review on the anandtech front page today... raptor is a bit faster than most in a bunch of tests, but it looks like the price/perf is high... i have seagate .10 320gb that seems plenty fast...
