Thanks! I ordered one. Now I have to figure out what to do with the 400SC 2.4C that I just received but haven't set up yet.

Grrrr...

Guess I missed this one. I could really use this pc to use as a new HTPC, but I didn't get the email. Hopefully they run this again...

=( That makes me a sad panda.

Could you guys please, please, please stop begging for coupons?

There are other tech bargains(hint, hint, hint) websites that have forums where people post these coupons. Thank you

I've helped others out with my unused coupons. I hope someone can spare one for me I didn't get the 15% one. I have a system in the basket. Please PM me if you have a coupon you can spare, or email to: hoosier___daddy@hotmail.com (yes, 3 underscores!)

I'll even throw in a new router or palm pilot if you pay shipping.

That's why I'm skipping this deal. I just got the cheap 400SC with a Palm for $277AR. It's the same motherboard (different BIOS), similar case, same expansion. I already ordered and received a P4 3.0GHz (Northwood, not Prescott) to upgrade the system. Even with an OS, the upgraded 400SC was a better deal for me since I had a lot of hardware from my last system/other hot deals. 400SC price - sold hardware and palm + CPU and other upgrades = under $850AR for: P4 3GHz, 1 GB PC3200, 240GB RAID + 160GB (3 x WD SE drives), 2 dual format burners (Memorex/Pioneer DVR-106, Lite-On 851S), BFG 5900 flashed to a 5950 and a DigiFire 7.1 sound card. The best part is I didn't pay $850 all at once.

$640AR/AC + tax for the 8300 with 17" CRT, 8x DVD+R and 9800 Pro is a very good price, just not great enough to make me order.

Yup, I think they removed the Prescott and sub'ed in a std Northwood. Also, my 15% coupon is no longer stacking with this deal. Anyone else seeing that? I think I waited too long. Crap!

They did change the CPU config. It no longer lists the 1MB cache on the 3Ghz CPU. Interesting. What will they send, a new Prescott or a Northwood? I also noticed the proposed ship date dropped from 3/1 last night to 2/25 tonight. Maybe they ran out of Prescott's since they are so new and replacing with Northwood. Been reading about this deal on B$ and there is a discussion about Northwoods having better gaming performance?

Just verified that they subbed the Prescott with a Northwood now- both on the site and in details when one puts it in the cart - I'll change the title

I ordered one last night and it had a ship date of 3-11 but I called to have changes made to the order and ended up getting an extra $100 off and free upgarde to 80gb hard drive and the csr added microsoft office 2003 basic at no charge, It amazes me how you can call five times and get no help at all then you get the guy that does it all and then some, thats the only thing that keeps me going back to Dell.
My new ship date is 4-1 but the CSR said it should be much sooner than that ( lets hope he's right)
Here's what I got for

Dimension 8300 Series,Intel Pentium 4 Processor at 3.0GHz w/HT Technology and 1MB cache
XP Home Edition
Microsoft Office 2003 Basic Edition,Dimension,BSD
256MB DDR at 400MHZ
80GB 7200 RPM Ultra ATA Hard Drive
3.5in Floppy Drive

8X DVD+R/RW CD-RW Combination Drive
128MB DDR ATI RADEON 9800 PRO Graphics Card with TV-Out and DVI
17 in E172FPBFlat Panel Display

Total Order Amount: $1,105.81- $150 for the rebate = $955.81

Thanx so much for the advice. Big smiley face to Yo2 !

Ordered mine this afternoon with new ?Prescott 1 MB cache, 3.0 and 4/1/4 ship date. Will hold back on the RAM until ship date; likely from crucial. An IT person at work recc 1GB RAM due to video work. Was told that 5200 video card was plenty for our graphics use. (Some other Dells at work were ?Optiplex 270s, but he told me the 8300 price with rebate and Q-pon was hard to beat - since it incl inexpensive software).

A Q to the moderator; no offense intended here. For discount code and coupon stuff, is this now located on a different part of the anandtech forums? Or was the code stuff getting to unwieldy? Is fatwallet.com the place to go for this info now? Some similar info at techbargains.com and dealmac, dealram, dealnews.com too.

Thanx - really appreciate anandtech - from an occasional user over the last couple of years and look forward to more.

You are welcome. I hope your system will ship sooner that 4/1.

As for memory crucial is a great supplier with excellent quality (I bought from them numerous times despite the fact that their prices are a bit higher than elsewhere - their service and product make up for it) HOWEVER - their PC3200 ram is rated only at CAS3 latency. I know it is faster than that but the dell machines have no options to manually tweak the memory timings. I would therefore suggest to look for some quality brand PC3200 DDR rated cas 2.5 memory, which the dell can read and interpret correctly and which will give you a slight performance boost, quite noticeable actually as the system appears more responsive. In my SC400 I am currently using 1GB (2x512MB) of GEIL memory from newegg($160+/- shipped) with great results

Coupons expired - deal further cooling - I still think this is hot, at least when you throw in a 15" or 17" LCD which remain discounted by $150

I edited title accordingly

Doesn't say anything about the 1MB cache so now I'm worried I didn't get a Prescott processor. Can anybody else confirm or deny that on their order acknowledgement email it says something about the 1MB cache? If this is going to be a Northwood CPU, I may cancel the order.

TIA.

is it better to try and get the prescott rather than the northwood? a lot of the folks in the widewallet thread for this deal seem to prefer the northwood, considering the inefficient lengthy pipeline and additional heat generated by the prescott.

I'm not seeing the monitors at $150 anymore.

Did anyone else see their coupon get denied prior to the 12am CST deadline? I did...
