Probably a market reaction to the OMax deal. Marked $39.99 on the shelf. Grabbed the last 2 from the Hialeah store but there was a box of Kingston memory waiting to be stocked. I wonder if Omax will price match...

Got the idea to try BB from Chucko in his OM ddr thread. He found the same deal in his location. I guess the requirement is there must be an OM in the area, that's the usual scenario, but you never know, it could be everywhere.

can you OC these Kingstons to PC2700 speeds?
how much is the speed gap between pc2100 & pc2700 anyway, is the difference noticeable?

Beats me. I can't tell by looking at the chips who actually makes the chip.
But I did read that on the nforce2 mobo's when memory is run asynchronous, pc2700 (166 mhz with cpu at 133mhz), it is no faster and marginally slower than running at pc2100 (133 mhz) synchronous with the chip fsb, and that's the mobo I'm looking fo.

well if you are not overclocking then that's fine. if you are overclocking your CPU, it just won't do.

but a lof of PC2100 does decent in oc'ing.

these have nanya on them. the last ones i got were samsung. don't know if that matters to anyone.

update: got another one that has no names on the chips. interestingly enough the samsung chips seem to be defective. oh well, guess i'll have to make yet another trip to bb tomorrow. grr...:disgust:

The ones I got at OfficeMax were Nanya, the ones I got at Best Buy were Kingston. The Nanya ones were made in ASSY in China, the Kingston ones say ASSY in USA. They also have different UPC codes and names. OM is KVR-PC2100DDR/226 (40617 06793, which corresponds to rebate) and the BB ones are KVR266X64C25/256-R (UPC 40617 06112). I think I am just going to return the OM and not deal with rebates. $39 off the shelf is better than $39 after MIR.

Hmm...I have an Nforce 2 Mobo, should I just keep the 2100 stick I have now and wait to see if DDR400 Prices collapse? Thataway Ill be ooook when barton comes around...if I choose to buy a barton, AMD Extreme Performance Project seems to have swayed me from every buying CPU's again.

to those of you having problems with your local best buy honoring the 39.99 shelf price, i'm pretty sure you can make them pricematch to other best buys, but ymmv. i had to have a manager call another store that was selling it at 39.99 and then he honored the price. be prepared with some store numbers that are honoring the price. they should have the phone numbers for those stores in their database, but take the phone numbers just in case. also, it couldn't hurt to call the store to verify the price and get the name of the rep you spoke to, just in case your local best buy does call another store. you can get the store numbers and phone numbers from bestbuy.com

OK, this is weird. My Best Buy has it for $54.00 - $15 MIR! So those of you who got it for $39.99 with no rebate, check and see if there is $15 MIR for you! Unless it's a mistake, I don't know. I PM'ed $54.99 price in OfficeMax and used $10 off Staples coupon, so after $20 MIR from them it will cost me $25. Not bad...

Can't believe no one has posted this yet but if you are lucky enough to get it at BB for $39.99 you can still get the $15 rebate at BB website for a total of $25.
