How does this compares to Intel 40GB SSD in terms of speed?

This will have faster sequential speed while the Intel will still beat this in random speed. Personally, I would take the extra 20GB and the OCZ. I'm leary of 30 and 40GB drives...just seem too small for my taste. YMMV and good luck!

While I don't have a ssd, I read up on them every now and then. Depending on the model, I'm pretty sure you can flash the Kingston drive to enable trim, since it uses intel flash and controller. Here is a post over in memory and storage, and I'm sure google will provide much more info.

awesome thanks!

sure is tempting

i haven't even installed my kingston 40GB yet as i really want a new processor (and no TRIM yet, wtf) and to upgrade to win 7 at the same time.

but boy would this be nice to have

i really need to repurpose my systems. my "server" computer has a Q8400 w/4GB in it, and my "gaming" computer has an old opteron 165. i would really like an i860 or i920, but i'm afraid there'll be 32nm hexa core or cheaper quad cores by the end of the month.

probably not a better price/performance/size SSD by the end of the month, though.

windows xp doesn't play nice with SSDs, right?

Plays fine! I don't use that bloated POS vista redux called windows 7 and have intels drive. If you want to use TRIM and use Windows XP or Vista who do not support TRIM native, both Indilinx and Intel have manual trim tools.

There is shell shocker right now for $154 AR on
OCZ Vertex Series OCZSSD2-1VTX60G 2.5" 60GB MLC

Not sure the difference from Agility line up...

http://www.newegg.com/Special/ShellS...namitedata.com

The Agility is generally a little slower but it really depends on the NAND used in the Agility. The Vertex tends to stick to the best, hand picked NAND with newer units using Intel 34nm stuff. The Agility uses a mixed bag of stuff but there have been units that are faster than the Vertex.

Cool! Hey do you know anythng about Indilinx's Trim tool? What I mean is it elegant like Intels where you can set it up to run automatically at X intervals or is it always manual?

I may have to jump on this as well... once I went SSD I'll never buy another mechanical drive again.

I don't know about the TRIM tool other than Wiper. However, since these drives now include both TRIM and Garbage Collection, the drive will take care of itself, even without TRIM, for the most part with Garbage Collection just by logging off a few hours a week (or letting the PC go to S1 sleep - drive powered on). The Garbage Collection will work in the background moving stuff around and consolidating free space. Firmware 1.5 has been the best by far.

I've confirmed it. My last day will be March 5th. I might bump it to the end of Feb. as the 65% government COBRA assist expires at the end of Feb.:\

That's the reason that I have not bought any of the deals that I've posted during the last few weeks....even though I've wanted to so very badly.

wow, bummer dude :\ hopefully you can find another one relatively quick

Last day for rebate!

To AkumaX...I'm working on it. Hopefully, I'll get a bite before I'm completely laid off!

I got mine, using it right now. Speeds are odd, the reads are faster than what most people are getting with these drives, but the writes are slower. Need to look up some more benchmarks to confirm that it's a keeper and send off that rebate.

What (or post a pic of) is your overall AS SSD score? A pic would be nice!

I'm on the same motherboard, Gigabyte P965 DS3,
I got
seq read: 186
seq write: 101
4k read: 25
4k write: 7.4
4k-64thrd read: 64
4k-64thrd write: 7.5
acc.time read: .15
acc.time write: .558
score total 197

Can someone with a more modern motherboard benchmark theirs?

How can you tell if 34nm was used in your Agility?

I meant that newer Vertex units are getting Intel 34nm NAND, not the Agility. Not sure about that one (this is per Tony of OCZ). As for telling, you have to crack your unit open, voiding the warranty.
